#igquiltfest Day 14 ••• I finished this baby last week and have been dying to share it but have patiently waited until today's prompt. This is the #nqcmysterymedallion quilt put on by @quilterscircle and designed by @tlischko The challenge started in October and I finally finished the last stitch of the binding last Wednesday. This is by far the largest quilt I've ever made and also by far the most points I've ever had to worry about!! I made it extra challenging by trying to use only stash fabrics for the top, which worked until I got to the final borders. Then I had to buy some yardage. If I had known the complete design from the beginning, I definitely would have made different color placement choices, but I guess that's the fun of a mystery quilt. #recentlyfinished#quilting#quilts#quiltsofinstagram#freemotionquilting#medallionquilt
The centre block is done! It is 25" finished and begins my new medallion quilt. The astute will remember this block from its tester block in Mum's black and white quilt. There are a few other tester blocks for this quilt scattered around in there too. It's pretty exciting to be working on the final version now! I have learned that I am not a fast piecer. I prefer to work slowly - when I rush I make mistakes and don't realise it #medallionquilt#medallionquilts#quiltblock#quiltdesign
#englishframequiltbom progress... I’m over the half way point now with the orange peel border.... I’m really enjoying hand sewing them! I’ve still to decide on fabrics for my corner #englishpaperpiecing 6 point stars... these will radiate out throughout the corners on all the borders, with the lovely stripe background repeating. I’ve realised that I’m going to have to find a new spot for future photos as it has now outgrown my bay window!
#igquiltfest Day 9: Finally Finished. This one took me two and a half years. It was a very stop and go project and is the wedding quilt for my son and daughter-in-law. Sometimes you have to wait for the inspiration to hit. #quiltlikeahipster#improvquilting#medallionquilt l still have one more wedding quilt to go. Waiting for more inspiration.
New quilt top bringing together a #vlisco Dutch wax print, a Japanese print and some vintage Liberty floral. I've made a few applications to events recently and it forced me to think about my creative process. I realised that my quilts are almost always fabric-led: rather than using fabrics to bring to life a pattern or a sketch, I start with a piece of cloth I love and then build around it. That's why I make so many medallion quilts or log cabins, I often can't bring myself to cut up beautiful prints in tiny pieces. The mustard yellow is a Japanese cotton linen mix from #missmatatabi. Black linen from the #clothhouse.
I wanted to join the fun with @seattlemqg! I’m doing their block of the month called #begoniaquilt . It’s a mystery medallion quilt so this will be the center and I have no idea what it’ll look in the end. I’m a little uncertain about my color choices. We will see! It’s my first time doing a mystery BOM. #konacotton#medallionquilt#pastels
For the #sarahfielkebom2019#cominghomequilt I completed the center block featuring the fabrics in the #farmsteadharvest collection designed by @kim_diehl_quilts for @henryglassco. I loved the warmth of the fabrics used in the #downtherabbitholequilt by @northportquilter. Be sure to go to her feed to see her quilt that was also beautifully quilted by @rubybluequilts. It’s stunning! 😍For my version, I’m going to use a mix of greens, reds, burgundies, blues, golds and oranges that will be anchored by cream/tan and highlighted with black, pulling from a mix of collections for this Coming Home Quilt. @Thank you @sfielke for hosting this #blockofthemonth.
Month 2 of The Gardens BOM starts tomorrow!! It’s all about the Orange Peel appliqués 🧡. Want to join us? You still can!! The link is in my profile 🥰💜. ✂️🎥 i just finished filming the videos for this month’s pattern and appliqué technique. Filming solo is challenging, but it does get better and easier each time. Did you know that all of the videos for my BOM quilts are FREE for anyone to watch? I share tons of tips and tricks that are helpful for any quilter. You can find my videos on YouTube (search for Cristy Fincher) or on my website. #thegardensbom#thegardensquilt#gardenpondblock#orangepeelapplique#turnededgeapplique#appliquequilt#vandcoombre by @vchristenson @modafabrics #machineapplique#medallionquilt
