Have you met Betsy and Tacy? I wasn’t introduced to these delightful characters until college, when I gobbled up the entire #betsytacy series by #maudhartlovelace. I am determined to weave the lives of these delightful, determined, imaginative, independent little girls into the lives of my own little girls. We recently finished the first installment as a bedtime read-aloud. In Betsy-Tacy the main characters are in kindergarten and the chapters are short enough to make it a perfect preschool and early grades read-aloud. Since the stories follow the girls all the way into adulthood, we’ll be checking back in for years. And yes, those are Frozen paper dolls, in honor of the main characters love of playing paper dolls.
One last Bloomsbury pilgrimage, and I’m astonished it took me this long. 5 Taviton Street, the small white room that Betsy Ray/Maud Hart Lovelace took while staying in London right before the Great War. Of interest only to a select few, and sadly missing the blue plaque it SHOULD have, but still...it survived the blitz and you can see the 4th floor windows where she must have thrown coins down to the organ grinder.
Maud Hart Lovelace speaks to my heartstrings in her writing- so when thinking about a favorite author, she was one of the first who came to mind. Not to mention, how perfect is this quote for my new journey? I love her wit, her understanding of our humanness and her child like heart. If you didn’t read Betsy and Tacy as a child, you should now! Who is your favorite author? #favoritebooks#maudhartlovelace#blogger
