One of my favorite poems. I’ve been reading tons of poetry, but always return to Mary Oliver again and again. #maryoliver #poetry #poets #poetryislife #youdonothavetobegood

This poem, read after a yoga class I attended, has touched my heart deeply. I’ve had it saved on my phone for about a year, and as I read it again this morning, it resonates more than ever. Written my Mary Oliver - THE JOURNEY One day you finally knew what you had to do, and began, though the voices around you kept shouting their bad advice- though the whole house began to tremble and you felt the old tug at your ankles. "Mend my life!" each voice cried. But you didn't stop. You knew what you had to do, though the wind pried with its stiff fingers at the very foundations, though their melancholy was terrible. It was already late enough, and a wild night, and the road full of fallen branches and stones. But little by little, as you left their voices behind, the stars began to burn through the sheets of clouds, and there was a new voice which you slowly recognized as your own, that kept you company as you strode deeper and deeper into the world, determined to do the only thing you could do- determined to save the only life you could save. . #maryoliver #maryoliverpoetry
After another exhausting week, I had a pocket in the morning for myself and started to fill it with my worries and such. Midway I stopped and thought: How would I really like this day to unfold? I decided today, that I will ride to school safely. I will have the air, whipping across my face, make my eyes and nose run and it will feel like I am weeping along the trail. I will push through this last day of the school week and make my way to fulfill my soul work with @yogabehindbars And when this long day is over, I’ll meet with my great love who will tell me that, even in my imperfection, I am lovable.... So this day, I will take my old body out into the world and sing... - - - #maryoliver #sing #friday #school #motivation #soulwork #yoga #pnw #seattle #push
In Mary Oliver's poem, The Journey, she writes metaphorically about a person who has waited a long time to begin on the journey of self discovery. I often think of this poem when I describe the therapeutic process to new patients. Many people come to therapy for support but other times people come to therapy because they want to find their own voice or develop a deeper sense of self.  For more, please check out my blog: https://www.chelseawagnertherapy.org/blog/ #healing #psychotherapy #minnesota #psychoanalysis #chelseawagnertherapy #selfdiscovery #maryoliver
When it’s over, I want to say: all my life I was a bride married to amazement. - Mary Oliver

The Lily by Mary Oliver Night after night darkness enters the face of the lily which, lightly, closes its five walls around itself, and its purse of honey, and its fragrance, and is content to stand there in the garden, not quite sleeping, and, maybe, saying in lily language some small words we can’t hear even when there is no wind anywhere, its lips are so secret, its tongue is so hidden – or, maybe, it says nothing at all but just stands there with the patience of vegetables and saints until the whole earth has turned around and the silver moon becomes the golden sun – as the lily absolutely knew it would, which is itself, isn’t it, the perfect prayer. #poetry #maryoliver #poems #poetryofinstagram

You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves -Mary Oliver #maryoliver #maryoliverpoetry #sedona
