To all my followers! So usually Bleu is not a fan of other dogs, he lunges at them and gets mouthy, but is an extremely sweet boy when it comes to humans! I’ve been trying to figure out a way for him to enjoy the company of another pup so he can have friends but I was too nervous to bring him around other dogs. The other day I got up the courage to bring him to a very busy local dog park and when we went inside you could tell he was nervous (I was way more nervous though). I walked him around a few times with his leash still on and a man asked me why his leash was on and then proceeded to encourage me to take it off because dogs are better without their leash! So I hesitantly obliged and HE DID SO WELL! You just have to trust your pup and they will trust others. He was still obviously nervous but it’s because it’s a new environment and he isn’t used to other pups! The next day I brought him back and this time I didn’t keep him on the leash at all! A different older man came up to me this time from across the park telling me to just let Bleu go on his own (I was following him very closely). The man told me that dogs will figure it out. If they get in a little tussle they will figure it out on their own and so I stepped back and let Bleu do his own thing. You could tell SUCH a huge difference in Bleu’s trust with other dogs when I started to trust him. Your dogs sense your fear! I still have a lot of work left on letting Bleu go and stepping back but I’m just really proud of Bleu and myself for these big steps!
