Since I did Strongman training on the previous day, I was doing some light accessories for upper back and lower back with our one and only Klang Zeus @sathiash23 on 16th December. Wasn't 100% so I just did what I could. High intensity work today to start the week. Use the @smartwod_app (free app) Tabata timer to help you with today’s workout. Work hard for 40 seconds and rest for 20 seconds of every minute. High knees - running on the spot getting knees up to hip level. Down ups - stand up > lie face down so chest touches the floor > spring back up to standing. Jumping squats - squat down and jump up to full extension (straight body). Chinese plank - see photo 2. Use two chairs/table etc. This is a great isometric hold to strengthen your lower back core muscles. Alternating Grip is when you grab with an overhand/underhand grip while deadlifting and is an extremely useful bar grip technique that can be used to overcome a lack of grip strength and for those who don’t want to resort to lifting straps. • The benefits of an alternating grip is that it allows you to have a more secure grip on the bar and prevent the bar from rolling out of your finger tips as it sometimes does when your forearms get fatigued or aren’t strong enough during a double overhand grip. • However, the alternating grip isn’t without its faults. For one, it does place your supinated grip side (underhand grip hand) in a Bir of a compromised position. I.e. the shoulder of your supinated side tends to roll further forward and the your biceps can be susceptible to tendonitis over time due to flexion at the elbow. Particularly during heavier sets, if you are grinding through a heavy rep, or if you try to bounce the bar up to a deadlift lock out. • While there are cons to alternating grip, there are a number of easy workaround you can utilize. Master the mundane. And what’s more mundane than POSTURE? • Back when I was in the chiropractic office, I used to have patients balance thick encyclopedias on their head. They had to sit, stand, and walk around maintaining position. • Your daily posture affect everything, in and outside of the gym. Arguably it’s the single most powerful tool to feel good and maintain mobility and stability across the entire body. • You CAN NOT out train shitty posture and positions. • Posture is about LENGTHENING up through the top of your head to the sky/ceiling. If you properly do that, the head, neck, and shoulder blades tend to slide into the correct anatomical alignment on their own. • Try this idea at home when you have a moment. Put a flat weighted object on top of your head and train yourself to sit, stand, walk, and squat while maintaining the objects position. You might not have this back machine but you will have something similar and you can use that as your finisher. Lately, my lower back has been giving me some problems.  Needless to say I feel every bit of 33!  My pain is mild but, keeping my body 100% is SO important to me. #deadlifts don’t appear in my Legs-day regime until I have properly warmed up my back, hips and hamstrings because they are so demanding on your core. A physiotherapist once shared with me that running/intense weights are the worst things to do immediately at 6pm after work, because of spinal disc fluid build-up from 8hrs of deskwork/sitting down and not having sufficient time (30-60min) to re-establish proper blood and fluid flow in the body before we stress our joints in our bid to keep fit. Lower back extension,with weights or without? One of my favorite exercises is the plain old back extension machine. A strong lower back prevents back pain or can help manage it. I like to alternate, once extensions become to easy  from my own body weight, I challenge myself with added weights.This can be done by holding a weight plate (35-45lbs)to your chest, draping weighted chains ⛓ over your shoulders, or a kettle bell for added tension.
