Exploring caves & the top Bluff on Cayman Brac. Bat Cave & Skull Cave w 🦇 Cayman Brac discovered by Columbus(1503) in a later voyage when blown off course named the group of islands “The Tortugas” for the giant sea turtles. The turtles became a source of meat & commerce until almost wiped out. Conservation has replenished & protected them. 🌊🐢🐢🐢 The Cayman islands are an outcropping of the top ridge of an undersea mountain range. Millions & millions of shells, corals, marine sands & lagoonal mud form the unique limestone craggy shores. The caves were created by the pounding of the waves finding their way into nooks & crevices eventually caving in the limestone. Swirling storm waters & hurricanes crashing wave created caverns, windows & short tunnels seeking places to erupt up above in some areas. On each side of the island underwater the coral reef ledges drop off 2-3 miles deep into the Cayman Trench. ~ The caves were great hideouts for pirates & were used to surprise the supply ships of the mid 1600’s that came for water & re-supply. The Bluff limestone cliffs rise up 150 feet made of dense crystalline Karst limestone in a honeycomb shape with sharp pinnacles. This “Rock” forms a natural aquifer for trapping rainwater. Early seafarers & Cayman “Brackers” depended on this unique water source. ~exploring Oct 2017 . . . #caymanbrac#cave#exploring#pirates#columbus#carribean#tortugas#caymanislands#limestone#coralreef#coral#caymanridge#geology#littlecayman @discovercaymanbrac

Views from our bedroom! The walls in here are now up & the post for our doors is nearly up to height. In the next week the lintels will go in followed by a few more laps of bags above tying everything together in this room. Excited to wake up in here someday soon...ish 🤞🏼
The island of Es Vedrà Standing at almost 400 metres high, this uninhabited rock island made of limestone is situated 2km off the west coast of Ibiza and is right opposite to Cala d'Hort. Rumour has it the monolithic limestone rock formation of Es Vedra is the third most magnetic point in the world and has long been referred to as the source of Ibiza’s inexplicable energy. Es Vedra is the source of many island myths and legends: some claim to have seen UFOs flying above it, old wives’ tales say it’s the ancient site of the lost city of Atlantis, others have heard siren calls from the shore and mystics say it has healing powers.
Malham Cove with the beauties of Northern Spirit camp on our winter gathering weekend at Malham has been so spectacular, connective & grounding! Wow for the wonders of this world 💚 From the @yorkshiredales website - The 70 metre (230ft) high, gently curving cliff of white limestone has amazed visitors for centuries. Formed along the line of the Middle Craven Fault, it has been eroded backwards from the line of the fault by the action of water and ice over millions of years. Over the last one and a half million years, Malham was probably covered at least three times with huge sheets of ice. As these glaciers ground their way over the landscape they plucked rock from the face of the Cove and carried it away. Each time the glaciers melted, huge floods of water further eroded the face of the Cove. The water flows underground now, but then, the ground was permanently frozen and so the glacial meltwater had to run over the top. The result was that a massive waterfall once thundered over the Cove. Today, the sheer rock face of Malham Cove challenges climbers and also protects a pair of nesting peregrine falcons which can be viewed during the summer months diving and wheeling alongside the house martins and jackdaws that also call the Cove home.
