On the outside, sitting every day for at least 15-30 minutes, makes a huge difference in how you approach life. ⠀ But meditation also works on the inside, changing the structure of your brain. Specifically, the areas of the brain meditation acts on are:⠀ 👨‍⚖️Lateral prefrontal cortex aka the "Assessment Center": the part of the brain that allows you to look at things from a more rational logical and objective perspective. ⠀ 👸Medial prefrontal cortex: the part of the brain that references everyhting back to you, your perspective and experiences. Many people call this the “Me Center” ⠀ 👮‍♂️Insula: the part of the brain that monitors bodily sensations and is involved in experiencing “gut-level” feelings. It's the "Surveillance center" ⠀ 🚨Amygdala: the "Alarm Center" of the brain, responsible of the “fight/flight” response⠀ Meditating, you weaken  the bond between the "Me" and the "Alarm" centers and you will no longer assume that a bodily sensation or momentary feeling means something is wrong with you or that you are the problem. As a results, anxiety decreases.⠀ Meditation also builds healthier connection between the "Assessment" and "Surveillance" centers. This means that when you experience a bodily sensation or something potentially dangerous or upsetting, you are able to look at it from a more rational perspective⠀ Finally, the part of the "Me Center" that tells "This is not me" and the "Surveillance Center" become strongly connected, enhancing Empathy. This past month has really taken me on a journey into the parts of myself that are still wounded and has shaken me to my core. I’m grateful for all that I’ve been shown and the healing that will continue. To tell you the truth I didn’t realize this life was going to have me going through this amount of soul work. Lol practicing non attachment is no joke and has really been challenging for me. Sometimes I want to give up and stay comfortable in my attachments but my higher self keeps pushing me up this hill. I know that it’s worth it in the end. I cry often from happiness and sometimes from my pain. There are moments when I feel alone on this journey but I know that is not the truth. I have moments where I don’t want to be alone but sometimes those are the moments I need to be alone. That is where I must do the real work. I’m grateful for my sadhana, my self love rituals that have kept me grounded and peaceful. If any of you share similar feelings I want you to know that you are not alone. Please don’t give up. We are all here for a reason and we are all learning from each other. May we learn compassion for ourselves so that we may know how to give it to others. May we learn to be gentle with ourselves so that we may be gentle with others.
