The Inyo County SAR winter race series was a huge success yesterday!! We had 100+ participants and perfect weather. AWESOME!! Thank you to everyone that showed up and all the sponsors/volunteers that made it happen. If you’re bummed you couldn’t make it to this one there will be 2 more races on 2/9/19 and 3/16/19. See you out there!!
Over five years with bae 😘 ___ ____ _____ ______ One of the reasons I got this shot was because White Mountain Peak lined right up with bae. This mountain peak is the third tallest peak in California at 14,252’ and gets no attention! She’s alone in the Sierra rain shadow but not any less stunning.
So, I drove to the middle of nowhere on a rocky dirt road to get to that "red patch" at the foot of the White Mountains. My logic was, "that shits gotta fire different than the other stuff I've tested so far." I'm basically between Big Pine and Indpendence, up this road, about 2 miles from the highway. I pulled over twice and started walking with my bucket and shovel because I was scared of getting a flat tire out there, but said, "F this," both times, and got back in my car and kept driving closer. I was hoping to find some super fine red stuff back there, but all there was, was this red pumice, maybe gravel size at the smallest. Actually, I don't know what it is. It's got holes like pumice, but is way more dense and heavy. Anyhow, I dug about a 6" down until there was fine dirt and collected some of that. After screening the big stuff out, not much made it through a 60 mesh screen, but what did, is one of the "glazes" on these vases, nothing else is added. It's only a matter of time before I get stuck out here, or somewhere, but I wouldn't trade this experience for anything. Heh, well, about 30 minutes later, I sorta got stuck in the mud. It was a pretty good adrenaline rush, and even better when I got unstuck. That sample is still in a bucket, in the garage, so it'll hopefully make for another worthy story about digging dirt and firing it up. #pottery#ceramics#foraging#owensvalley#owensvalleypottery#michaelsbicca#shigerusbicca#inyocounty#whitemountainscalifornia#bigpine#bishopca#mammothlakes#lonepineca#lonepine
