Poecilotheria fasciata 0.1 💜 This beautiful girl was introduced to a mature male on 03/15/2019. After almost 48 hours of leaving the male in a well ventilated cup in the females enclosure I let him loose. The male tapped around the enclosure and eventually located the females den but she didn’t move at all. Not to eat or receive. After 30 minutes the male became very bolty after wandering off. I cupped the male and took him to another room to fiber the female time to reset and “forget” him. Twelve hours later I placed the females enclosure into a large exoterra and removed the lid of her enclosure while securing the larger enclosure. I gave her about half an hour to calm down from being moved and then opened one of the front doors and introduced the male. 🖤 The male stayed on the outside of the enclosure and the female was in her den. With no action for about ten minutes I decided to shut off the small flashlight I had and walk my dog. I figured the mature male would have plenty of room to run should she decide to chase after him. I returned a few minutes later to the female on the doors of the enclosure and the male on the left wall. He circled the enclosure, tapping the whole time. When he came upon the female resting on the doors he tapped and slowly approached. The male touched the females rear hind leg and she turned to feeding response him. The flurry of legs resulted in the male hopping clear across the enclosure and the female resting again on the front doors. The third slide is the females behavior almost immediately after running off the male. Even though I do believe the male was successful, I am going to attempt another pairing late on 03/20/2019 ⚠️⚠️⚠️ Also I guess there is a #tkcuspopulationproject @thetkc so go check that out. The # seemed appropriate ⚠️🔥 Travis, our mature female Stromatoplema calceatum will also possibly drop a sac within the next couple of days. I’m excited for the peach fury. 🔥 I hope you
Clark Nova Typewriter with Page This is a sculpture of the Clark Nova insect typewriter from David Cronenberg’s movie adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ novel, ‘The Naked Lunch.’ A very disturbing movie. This was a gift for a friend. This sculpture is able to actually hold a mini page so it looks more like the typewriter in the movie. I made two different pages because I couldn’t decide which quote I liked more. One says, “Exterminate all rational thought. That is the conclusion I have come to.” The other says, “Dear Martin, Plase help me. I’ve got to get out of Interzone. I’m dying of loneliness. I can,t connect with anybody.” (The typos aren’t mine.) I’m pretty sure that neither of those quotes were actually typed into the Clark Nova bug, but I still thought they were fitting. Materials: Sculpey polymer clay, aluminum foil (for support), Liquitex soft body acrylics, card stock #cronenberg#williamsburroughs#burroughs#insect#typewriter#nakedlunch#thenakedlunch#sculpey#polymerclay#bug#movie#sculpture#invertebrate
Finally managed to get a half decent photo of my very quick to hide Armadillidium maculatum. They’re a lovely and very hardy species, by now a staple in the isopod hobby with many morphs and selected strains available. There are about four clutches of babies in the substrate currently and I hope they make it to adulthood... would certainly be easier to photograph with a big swarm.
