Following on from yesterday’s post about what a career is, today we review what a vocation is. ••• While a career, the pay associated with it and the opportunity for progression are all of key importance, without a strong feeling that it is “a good fit” it will only ever be a career. ••• Other core differences between a career and a vocation include: ➡️ A vocation calls upon a person’s dedication to their career and this career has a perceived worthiness - it’s not “just a job”. ➡️ People are drawn to vocations that acknowledge and leverage their strengths. Using strengths leads to improved performance and increased enjoyment. ➡️ As engagement is higher in vocations, there is a greater chance of achieving flow state or “Zone Moments”. ➡️ The vocational career just “feels right”. It fits you as a person and suits your strengths, interests and motivation. ••• A common myth is that to have a vocation you need to take a pay cut from a career... While it can be true the reality is that, because you enjoy the work more, you’re more likely to produce positive outcomes, feel better about your achievements and ultimately get more out of the work than simply extrinsic rewards... There is a very large INTRINSIC reward that comes with a vocation, as you are operating from the Inside-Out and attaining fulfilment in additional ways to simple, traditional financial rewards. ••• Closely related to vocation and purpose, tomorrow we will look at callings, and how a calling can be different from a career and align with a vocation.
"That which does not kill us makes us stronger " is a famous adage used in reference to the many challenges we face in life. The fact that it's from the 1800s means we've known for hundred of years that the human body, when presented with a sub-lethal physical, psychological or chemical stress, can adapt to the source of stress, allowing the body to tolerate incrementally larger similar stress. . . Dr. Hans Selye, an endocrinologist from McGill Proposed that all organisms mount an acute response, then a chronic adaptation after surviving exposure to stress. This adaptation enables the organism to tolerate a subsequent and more intensely stressful exposure to the same type of stress - this is the physiological expression of the popular quote mentioned above. 👆 . . In practical fitness application, the FRAN (21,15,9 of thrusters and pull ups) often cited as the best benchmark test of crossfit is a good example. . . My previous FRAN time of 7 min 20 sec from '17 has been cut down to 3 min 40 sec (last week)... my body has chronically adapted to this training stressor. *practice what you preach* 😏 . . #throwbackthursday . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #flowzone#inthezone#instafit#fitstagram#igers#flowstate#entertheflow#strength#athlete#anatomy#humanengineer#crossfit#crossfitathlete#crossfitter#coach#grind#grindhouse#box#fitness#strengthandconditioning#crossfitwod#fran#strengthathlete#progressive#besttiming#crossfitopen

Everyone is at a different point in their journey. It's easy to compare when you don't know how far they traveled. They might be at the start of their fitness journey, while you might be a couple years in. I have been an athlete pretty much my whole life. I started on my first sports team at 2.5 years old. I used to be huge into lifting. My max squat my senior year in college was 300 lb! I was elated! Those are just numbers though you don't always have to crank out and lift insane amount of weights. Those are the weights I am using for a total body workout and some resistance bands. Those low numbers and bands are kicking my butt! It's never to late to start (or start back up!) Here is to getting on the path you want and not taking no for an answer! I am not stopping until I am at the place I want along with helping others along the way! Just know that you can do it! It's the positive mindset that can help you accomplish your goals! #motivation#totalbody#gymday#weights#liftingwithheadaches#resistancetraining#aimtosucceed#strivingforgreatness#strivingforsuccess#eyesontheprize#focus ##inthezone#proveittoyourself#progress#weightprogression#startingsmall
