Every holiday season is different, just like every sunrise and sunset. Don't enjoy the season? That's ok, you can choose to change it. What would your ideal holiday season look like? How can we find gratitude and joy when the holidays are full of stress and anxiety? 💖💖💖 Back in 2014, I was recovering from a nearly fatal infection following a miscarriage and d&c. I got out of the hospital on this day, 4 years ago, after spending a week in a medically induced coma. Two weeks later we hosted Christmas eve and Christmas dinner. The dinner turned into a disaster. It was too much stress far too soon after being so sick. 💖💖💖 On boxing day of that year, we booked a trip to Florida for the following Christmas, to avoid the holidays. We choose to change our situation for one season and the following year we were much better prepared to enjoy the holidays with family again. 💖💖💖 It's up to us to make the best of the holidays. To find gratitude in the challenges and in the good times. To be present for the presents and the lights and the carols. To find joy in the littlest of moments. To be a gift to others through service and love. How will you choose to make the best of this season? 💖💖💖 I invite you to join me for my annual live webinar event, Manifest Your Best Year Ever! Join me LIVE from anywhere in the world for a 3 hour session that will change the course of your 2019. Dec 27th 7 PM EST. There’s a station on my way to work, where you, from the train window, can see @arvidnordquistkaffe coffee brewing factory. Once the train stops at the platform and the doors open and the smell of coffee slips in, I swear that the atmosphere in the crowded train changes. It’s like everyone just inhaling one second longer and exhaling one second longer, creating two seconds of pure presence before the train door closes and everyone goes back to being busy avoiding everyone else on the train. Or maybe it’s just all in my head #ibelieveinmagic
I was hoping to capture a different perspective using a telephoto lens with this young bighorn ram. Their breeding season was still on and he was so in tune with the nearby ewe, he could care less that he was standing in the middle of the road (hence the Yellowstone Insight Suburban reflected in his eye)... Caught in the moment. As seen on a two-day private winter Wildlife Tour in Yellowstone National Park. PASTpresentFUTURE . The PRESENT is, and always will be, SQUEEZED in between the Past and the Future. What Mindfulness seeks to do is to create greater space for the Present, so that it can be experienced as it should be. . When this happens a person gains greater control over the impact of the Past and the Future upon them. . I’ve been re-reading an excellent book by David Fontana: Learn to Meditate (1998), in which he borrows a metaphor from the Buddha to describe what Mindfulness Meditation is doing. It is the metaphor of the MUDDIED WATER, wherein, the waters have been churned up so much by animal hooves (in Buddha’s version) or by mental chatter (Fontana’s version), that it is impossible to drink, and is completely uninviting. Very little of its true nature and beauty can be discerned. . Let the mud settle to the bottom, and the water becomes clear, inviting and once again transparent. . While our thoughts and emotions create the mental chatter that robs the mind of its clarity and stillness, the patient, active calming of the Mind through mindfulness and meditation creates space for the Present. . Mindfulness helps to ensure that the Mind isn’t overrun by the fears and anxieties, the pressures and uncertainties that both the past and the future constantly crowd in upon the Present Moment. It creates the space and clarity a person needs for a calm and balanced progression through the hours and demands of the day. . It can take time for the mental chatter to settle. However, it will, and the clarity and tranquillity that comes with it, is one of the great benefits of Mindfulness. . .
