Today’s food journal with a calorie goal of 2800-3200 calories. After 19hrs of fasting I ate these foods. A ham, Swiss and egg sandwich from Starbucks. Next meal was dolmas, salad, cucumbers, feta, pita, olives. The family shared some peach pie (had a small piece) and this frozen yogurt. It was just ok...6/10. Last I had a turkey sandwich and pretzels and Hanson’s Ginger ale. This helps you achieve a calorie deficit without cutting your calorie intake as much. But the scientific literature has clearly established an interference effect of cardio on strength training. If you do cardio too much, it can impact your recovery and performance. Also, if you do it at the wrong times, it can have an even greater negative effect. . . In order to prevent this, you should do cardio when it is least likely to impact strength training. Otherwise, it will result in less muscle building/more muscle loss and less fat loss. If your primary goals are fat loss/toning, don't do cardio immediately before lifting weights. Clearly, you will be fatigued for strength training. You also should not do high-intensity interval training (HIIT) the day before a leg day, but a low-intensity cardio would be fine. . . It is best to separate cardio and lifting weights as much as possible. Ideally, that would be doing cardio on a rest day or on the same day as lifting weights but separated by at least 6 hours along with some food in between. Realistically, most people will exercise 1 time in a day and can just do cardio immediately after lifting weights. . . Structure is your friend. It’s been raining the past two days so I was not able to do my run/walk. Today the sun peeked out a little so I thought I would go out and do my usual 8km. However, puddles of water made it quite a challenge so rather than waste a day again without working out, I decided to do an activity me and my son used to do a lot of before he got hooked on Jiujitsu. Swimming is the perfect compliment to Jiujitsu. It builds stamina and proper breathing which I realized only when I was already doing it myself is essential in Jiujitsu, so as to survive 5mins of sparring. It also promotes flexibility when you stretch as you do your strokes. It builds core strength and overall muscle toning. My run/walk has definitely improved my stamina as I didn’t notice I was already 10mins into my swim and was not catching my breath like crazy. Not like before when I would swim again after a long hiatus. I incorporated 15mins of HIIT swimming just to make sure I was hitting my ideal heart rate. Now if only my heart rate monitor would work on water. And swimming while fasted is the best!  #intermittentfasting  #metabolicreboot

Recently I undertook a few lifestyle changes which helped me to drop from a 'big-boned' 92kg down to a lean 77kg. Besides intermittent fasting and cutting sugar out one of the changes I made was to switch from whey based proteins to a pea based protein.. You're still reading? Cool! I'll be brief, Whey gives you a bigger insulin spike when you drink it than eating a piece of white bread.. This is a result of the high lysine content, Pea protein is absorbed almost as quickly but contains a much less lysine and your gut handles it way better. #leftoversforlunch curry and 2 minute garlic bread #ketobread I used to REALLY love garlic naan, but the last few times I have had it I have been disappointed. My take on #ketomugbread was so good (no butter or fats needed)... 3 tablespoons of almond meal, 0.5 teaspoon of baking powder, 2 tablespoons of water, 1 egg, 1 clove of chopped garlic, 1 tablespoon of chopped coriander leaves and a pinch of salt... mixed up in a cereal bowl, microwaved for 2 minutes. Remove from bowl and allow to cool. Cut through the middle to give 2 slices. Toast and enjoy. I really think I have a new addiction. One of my goals is to leverage my circadian rhythm to promote longevity and overall health. I actually have to set a timer , otherwise I will forget to eat in time. I still remember my old log books from tracked bro splits that I have til this day.  For the most part I fell into the same trap that most everyday fitness enthusiast find in magazines by people that were on super creatine (aka enhancers etc) and were growing mad with crazy results from this type of style of workout. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BUT as naturals, time and time again studies have shown that in order to benefit efficiently for muscle growth that hitting the muscle groups multiple times a week is the most efficient way of putting on muscle. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What you have here is a 6 day split where each muscle group is getting hit multiple times a week. Last post of the night. I swear 😂 So I put this in my stories earlier, but I thought I would elaborate. I bought this jacket 3-4 winters ago. As you can see it’s still in good condition. Because I only wore it ONCE. I bought it because I needed something heavier to wear to the Garden Glow Christmas lights display at the Botanical Gardens. It’s a 2x and I couldn’t close it. So I wore it as an unzipped jacket and pretended that that’s how I intended it to be. And this definitely wouldn’t have been the first time I did this with an article of clothing. Well, I went to the Zoo lights with my family tonight and knew it would be cold, and thought of this jacket. The jacket shoved to the back of my closet. The jacket I kept Incase I ever decided to lose weight, and it would fit. I tried the jacket on, thinking it would fit perfect and this is what I found. It didn’t fit. But for the opposite reason. WAY too big. As you can see. There is no better feeling than trying on clothes that you kept Incase you ever got skinny again, and finding that they are now too big. From Friday it started up and it peaked last night. Luckily I had some antibiotics on hand. I wanted to train but that gets put on hold. I should stop #intermittentfasting (Other intermittent fasters chime in if you disagree) and allow my body to heal with a steady flow of calories. Unfortunately I have had no appetite so staying on and extending my fast was easy. I did take in plenty of water and electrolytes. I will be eating tonight. What to eat?

Eating for satiety versus eating to meet biological needs! Food that contain all the essential nutrients are called nutrient dense food. Every cell in the body is made up of amino acids, fatty acids, water, vitamins and minerals. No cell is made up of SUGAR! Our body can not make certain nutrients that need to be supplied from food; these are called essential nutrients. There are essential amino acids, essential fatty acids, vital amines (vitamins) and minerals, hence first class proteins ( Eggs, meat, poultry, seafood), good fats (egg yolk, coconut oil, ghee, butter, olive oil, fish oil), vitamins & minerals (green & leafy veggies, organ meat, egg yolk) become integral in the food plan. Biologically sugar is not termed as essential because liver can make sugar; the process called gluconeogenesis. It is the formation of glucose/sugar through non-carbohydrate food. Glucose is essential for certain cells as those cells are incapable to use fats as a source of energy. Liver converts amino acids and fatty acids into sugar to meet their requirement. We don't need to supply sugar from food. Nutrient dense food is satiating because it meets all the biological needs and doesn't cause fluctuation in blood sugar level. Sugar loaded food keep us hungry all the time because body senses nutrient deprivation. Sugar provides psychological satiety due to the immediate release of dopamine ( neurotransmitter which makes us happy) but as soon as insulin lowers the blood sugar; dopamine levels drop correspondingly. The state called HANGRY (angry because of being hungry). Long story short the post was about an American medical student who felt abused drained and probably depressed. . . I didn’t realize it then – you’re stuck in the grind – I realize it now. . I remember my first year of training at the @bidmchealth in Boston- My grandmother died. The matriarch of our family. The one who took care of us when my parents came to America – and she was the one who admitted me to my for school. She only spoke #gujarati and so she came with me to the admission office and filled out all the paperwork. (I had just turned 8  so I can imagine my paperwork skills were not on point😂). Anyway, she meant so much to me and when she died I had to go to the funeral in AZ. . At the time everyone gave me such a hard time, Explicitly and implicitly I was shamed for leaving for two days and having someone cover for me. . That’s scarred so much that I waited until my research time in my 3rd year to even think about having a child - just so I wouldn’t have to go through that horrible experience again. . . . MDs trained in the US - do you feel the system is broken too? Not only is our healthcare system broken but our training system is broken also. Just like we need to incorporate health and wellness into our lives we need to incorporate health and wellness into medical training. . . . .
