Unfortunately, injuries can be a risk when it comes to sport and training. It can be easy for our focus to switch to the negatives and to become deterred/frustrated. Hi. So I have been lifting weights for 6 years and have never been injured. I will tell you exactly how do the same. • Motivational stories about recovering from injuries are fine and all, but it's much better to not have sustained one in the first place. • Injuries set you back months of progress. Some are permanent to where you can't squat or deadlift anymore. To me that's as bad as being handicapped. • One myth that I want to clear about injuries is that they are NOT CAUSED BY HEAVY WEIGHTS. It's bad mechanics of form 100% of the time! • Going heavier requires you to be more accurate with your form. One mistake can mean your back or any joint snapping. Now you're a science project for the rest of your life, especially with the knee. • So how do you avoid them? First, lift weights heavy for you. The increased muscle mass surrounding your joints & increased bone density, both a result of weight training, will protect your joints. • Second, perfect your form. I can't stress this enough. People say "but I don't feel anything wrong". It might be something small but it adds up over time. Then the next thing you know you get injured even when doing light weight. People misjudge that and conclude that it's the exercise that isn't good for you... 🙄. • Third, if you're doing isolation exercises and you feel stress on your joints, it's okay. That's right, it's okay. Even your tendons and ligaments grow stronger. I don't get any minor injuries anymore where others in my place would. Stronger joints = less risk of injury. • Joint soreness is a good thing just like muscle soreness. You just need to let them recover, again, just like your muscles. Don't ignore joint soreness because your muscles aren't sore, otherwise you will over train your joints and they will get hurt. BRACHIORADIALIS MFR  In this video I demonstrate some self myofascial release techniques for the brachioradialis.  O:La supracondylar ridge. I: Radial styloid. A: Elbow flexion and assists in supination and pronation.  Because of the position this muscle is in relative to the elbow, if it's sore and tight it can actually mimic tennis elbow pain (Most common muscle is ECRB for tennis elbow). We did our first laser therapy session today at @steamboat_veterinary_hospital. We were supposed to do cold laser, but they got a new laser that has a deeper impact in the tissue than the cold laser, and also takes a shorter amount of time to administer - both win’s for this neurotic pup. They graciously tested it on my wrist so I could stay assured that the 7 minute treatment wouldn’t cause any heat to my girl. (Helicopter dog mom much?) This is for pain treatment, arthritis, and speeding up healing and scar tissue development. So tonight has been a night of circuits, dodgy looking sweat marks and some intensive recovery on my calf/shin, which has decided to give me all sorts of trouble just days before my army reserves assessment 🤦‍♂️ just finished with the foam roller pain, now some hot and cold therapy (cold shower then hot bath) to try and speed up the repairs to the muscle.  Fingers crossed will be all good for Monday night.  Early bed tonight, got a 3.5 mile run test tomorrow, which will be my last intensive run before my assessment next week. 🏀With March Madness officially underway, let’s take a look back at a season-ending and career-altering injury suffered in 2017 by senior shooting guard Eron Harris of Michigan State. ———————————————————————— MECHANISM OF INJURY: ▶️ After driving baseline and jumping to attempt a heavily-contested layup, Harris landed with his right ankle fully plantarflexed (foot and toes pointed away from the knee), right knee fully extended, and his entire torso behind his right foot. This caused his momentum to go down and back relative to his right foot. Since his knee was fully extended, his muscles were not able to absorb much of the impact, which transferred to his knee joint, causing it to hyperextend and bend outwards to the right (varus force). This most likely caused a Grade III tear of the supporting ligaments, presumably the lateral collateral ligament (LCL) and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), which support the knee against varus forces and hyperextension. Due to the nature of injury, the menisci could also have been affected. ———————————————————————— RECOVERY: ▶️ Harris required season-ending surgery to repair the structures of his knee. Following surgery, Harris underwent an 11-month rehabilitation program in an effort to return to basketball. This process most likely began with immobilization and management of pain and inflammation, followed by passive and active range of motion exercises within a set range, depending on which ligament was repaired. Gentle strengthening exercises within the same set range can occur to reduce atrophy of the surrounding muscles. This process gradually progresses over the course of 9-12 months, depending on the individual and his/her goals (for example, return to desk job vs. return to NBA). ———————————————————————— OUTLOOK: ▶️ Although Harris went undrafted in the 2017 NBA

My day went from front squats, to leg press, to a broken toe and 2 hours in emerg.  Life has a funny way of saying slow the f down. Of course I’m upset about this, but accidents happen and there’s nothing you can do about them. I don’t know what I’m gonna do for the next 6-8 weeks to make sure my legs don’t turn to noodles, but on the bright side I’m gonna make some decent upper body gains. Why writing down your goals actually work? Writing down goals is associated with goal achievement. Vividly describing your goals in a written form is strongly associated with goal success, and people who very vividly describe or picture their goals are more likely to successfully accomplish their goals.  But WHY? External storage and ENCODING! External storage can be the piece of paper that you write your goal in which you have that paper sitting on your desk that you have easy access to and can review it at any time.  ENCODING is the process that we perceive that travels to our brains hippocampus 🦛 🧠 where the information is then being analyzed. Then decisions are made about what is being stored in our long-term memory and what gets discarded. So, by writing it down it improved this encoding process and you will have a much greater chance of remembering it.  Writing things down just doesn’t help out with general recall but it also helps with really important information. So, all in all writing things down can help make your mind become more efficient by helping to focus on the really important stuff.
