Participating in the Carnival 4 Inclusion event last Sunday taught our volunteers a lot about hope, determination and strength. Organised by Challenges Foundation, it was a sports-themed event for #sdg 10 (Reducing #inequality). We not only met national paralympic players but had the opportunity to see how they did not allow their abilities to hold back their #potential. Not only that, we got to experience the life of the blind, play alongside wheelchair tennis champions, and more. We gave our time and energy to #volunteer, but received in return #gratitude, #humility and #inspiration!

You must stop saying that animals aren't victims just because we aren't human. Think about it. The victimizer's mindset always goes like this: You don't count because you're stupid. You don't matter because you're dumb. I am better than you and I laugh at your suffering. I kill you when I want to. I sell you and your family. You're worthless. I appreciate this artist so much. • • • #repost @elwingbling with @get_repost ・・・ The ways people talk about crime and about mental illness, now and throughout history - such assumptions, such generalizations, such lack of consideration about systems of oppression and power ••• using the law and medical diagnosis as tools to reenforce inequality and injustice ••• marginalized people driven to breaking laws created to criminalize them; black people violating laws meant to keep white supremacy in place; women who were institutionalized because they wanted to make their own choices; indigenous people violating rules about boundaries and borders imposed on their own lands by outsiders; queer people violating laws that simply outlaw them, as they are, those in poverty taking the resources and rights they are entitled to as humans and on and on ••• who gets criminalized and who has been deemed mentally ill and by whom, and how much has society accepted certain people as innately damaged, "bad," broken, as throw-aways, as deserving of fewer humans rights because of these labels? #payattention#reflect#resist#defy#fight#oppression#marginalization#injustice#inequality#criminalization#abuse#power#mentalillness#resistance#wordsmatter#historymatters#crime#punishment

🎭💧 "The birdlike gestures are worn away to a mere picking and plucking her way between the tire rims and the sunflowers, between Coke bottles and milkweed, among all the waste and beauty of the world-- which is what she herself was. All our waste which we dumped on her and which she absorbed. And all of our beauty, which was hers first and which she gave us. All of us-- all who knew her-- felt so wholesome after we cleaned ourselves on her. We were so beautiful when we stood astride her ugliness. Her simplicity decorated us, her guilt sanctified us, her pain made us glow with health, her awkwardness made us think we had a sense of humor. Her inarticulateness made us believe we were eloquent. Her poverty kept us generous. Even her waking dreams we used-- to silence our own nightmares. And she let us, and thereby deserved our contempt. We honed our egos on her, padded our characters with her frailty, and yawned in the fantasy of our strength. And fantasy it was, for we were not strong, only aggressive; we were not free, merely licensed; we were not compassionate, we were polite; not good, but well behaved. We courted death in order to call ourselves brave, and hid like thieves from life. We substituted good grammar for intellect; we switched habits to simulate maturity, we rearranged lies and called it truth..." -Toni Morrison, "The Bluest Eye" 🎭💧 #quoteoftheday#tonimorrison#thebluesteye#death#loss#inequality#inequity#interpersonal#affects#emotions#keepthepainalive#narrative#compassion#empathy#contemplation#perception#reflection#love#selflove#vanity#selfie#winterfashion#teal#bowlerhat#stripes#velvet#docmartins#motd#ootd
Beyoncé and Hillary Clinton, along with Bollywood stars, were some of the A-list guests of a highly expensive wedding where the daughter of India’s richest man is tying the knot with the son of another billionaire. And they’re still trying to figure out why in their city - Mumbai - over 70% of the population live in slums, with limited access to food, clean water, sanitation, electricity etc. This is a reality in many parts of the world, whether it be in Los Angeles where million-dollar houses look out over a city in which the homeless get bigger daily, or in London’s wealthiest borough - Kensington and Chelsea - where one in seven families are homeless. Human beings are a lost cause! P.S. On another note, so funny Mrs Clinton is still wondering why she did not get elected. #capitalisminfullaction
#whiteprivilege#maleprivilege#whitemaleprivilege#rapeculture#rapecultureiswhen#thisisamerica#feminism Pedophilia is a real problem I feel too little is being done... So someone in the commented section wrote ‘Why are people allowed to protect their house with a gun but not their body??’ To me I think it’s insane to be in denial about how sexist and racist and over all problematic America is ‘land of the free’ This country is all over the place when it comes to fairness and justice... And let’s be honest, how fair is the justice system When it’s so expensive to have quality legal representation And I’m trying to be more positive these days it’s been hard lately and I hate that I’m spreading the negativity I’m trying to move on from my own past traumas with rape and my own hurt and resentments, trying to forgive...but I think it’s important to continue talking about #inequality because I am seeing it get better and the only way it can continue to get better is if we continue speaking out and #letourvoicesbeheard I do believe in the power of the #collectiveconsciousness And i do believe that even just by posting this and sharing it, we are doing what we can to make the world a little better and brighter! 🙏💖
The #christmastree is an ancient tradition with its roots in Egypt. Evergreens would be hung outside doors between Dec 22nd and Dec 25th during the winter solstice. This year I’ve chosen to celebrate this by topping mine with the greatest star, our sun. For the Egyptians Ra, the Sun God, at this time of year was about to be born as the #solstice broke, after a long period of decline as the days got shorter. Ra was naturally the most revered. The deification of the #sun in this form would eventually manifest itself as the foundation of all the Gods that would follow in Greece, Rome, right up to Jesus, another “Son” God. I celebrate all our great religions as they tell the story of humanity, our relationship with nature, the planet and heavens. It’s an old and beautiful story that we have often lost sight of through secularism. I hope you spare a thought for the ancients this season and all the great traditions we presently enjoy. They may all be mythical but they still have their magic!
After 70 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Rohingya ethnic has no rights in Burma. According to the United Nations, human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. Human rights include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education, everyone is entitled to these rights without discrimination. But none of these rights is given to Rohingya in Burma! Last year, Burmese generals committed genocide against the Rohingya, but no action has been taken against them. They must be prosecuted for committing genocide and it's a way to prevent future ethnic cleansing in the world. #justice#rohingya#humanrights#blue4humanrights#ethniccleansing#inequality#speakout #universaldeclarationofhumanrights #hrw#humanrightswatch#genocide#amnestyinternational#un#unitednations#smile#happy
December 10th: Human Rights Day — Day 16: 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence — “Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home -- so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. [...] Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world." -- Eleanor Roosevelt

Eugene Jacques Bullard was born in Columbus, GA in 1895. As a teenager, Bullard stowed away in a ship headed to Europe in hopes of escaping the rampant racial discrimination and violence prevalent in the US. Bullard settled in Paris, where he boxed for a living. When WWI erupted, Bullard volunteered with the French Foreign Legion, serving as a machine gunner in several key early battles and was severely wounded at Verdun in March 1915. After recovering, Bullard volunteered for the French Air Service, becoming a pilot in May 1917. Bullard’s unit flew Spads and Nieuport aircraft bearing a stork on the fuselage. Bullard flew more than 20 combat missions and has two probable air victories. He was know as the Black Swallow of Death. When the US entered the war the majority of American pilots flying with the French were converted to the US Army Air Service. Bullard was not accepted because he was black. Bullard served with the French until October 24, 1919. Bullard earned the Croix de guerre, military medal, and wounded service award, amongst others. Following the war, Bullard stayed in France. When WWII broke out, Bullard again volunteered for service, fighting in defense of France as the Germans fought for control of the country. Bullard escaped to Spain and on to the US after France fell. In 1949, having settled in the Bronx, Bullard was savagely bested by police during the Peekskill riots, started in opposition to a performance by Paul Robeson, a civil rights leader and alleged communist sympathizer. #blackhistory#historyforthewin#equality#inequality#worldwari#worldwarone#ww1#military#militaryhistory#aviationhistory#segregation#knowtheirnames#historynerd#historygeek#racism#aviation#aero#pilot#aviator#aviation
don’t even come at me with that “but what about their health?!?!?” bullshit. first of all it’s none of your business. second of all you have no right to tell anyone what to do with their body even if they’re your friend, family member, etc. let people have control of their bodies. _______________________ #feminist#bodyshaming#islamophobia#homophobia#peace#racism#inequality#prolife#prochoice#believesurvivors#alllivesmatter#donaldtrump#mentalillness#potus#positivevibes#bodypositivity#selflove#loveislove#breastfeeding#mentalhealth
One of capitalism's greatest devices, is the rhetorical pretense, that it's a natural progression of human development. And while dying from it, people believe in that notion. ______________ "Civil government, so far as it is instituted for the security of property, is in reality instituted for the defence of the rich against the poor, or of those who have some property against those who have none at all." "Wherever there is great property there is great inequality. For one very rich man there must be at least five hundred poor, and the affluence of the few supposes the indigence of the many. The affluence of the rich excites the indignation of the poor, who are often both driven by want, and prompted by envy, to invade his possessions." - Adam Smith (The Wealth of Nations) originally published March 9th, 1776 #capitalism#america#inequality#inequity#slavery#labor#government#class#racism#sexism#colonialism#corruption
💼📉The benefits of tax cuts and rising sales are going primarily to shareholders in the form of profits, rather than workers’ wages. Why? Bloomberg Opinion columnist Mark Whitehouse identified one reason: the job market has become less free. “The consolidation of American business has left people with fewer places to work, shifting the balance of power to employers.” With power in the hands of the employer, wages are kept down. Today is Human Rights Day and I am filled with anger at the side of fellow humans having to live on the street in the wealthies and most developed country in the world. Greed, consumption and power has nothing to do with Human Rights. #humanrights#today#newyorkcity#picoftheday
🌃💪 With wealth, jobs, and power increasingly concentrated in a few large cities, we are witnessing a growing economic and political divide between urban and rural America. It's part of a larger dynamic favoring "superstar" countries and companies, too — behemoths that appear positioned to dominate the future global economy. This fuels us-versus-them. Be smart: All of this is hitting politics hard. Democrats own the fast-growing cities and Republicans rule rural. The polarization could easily get worse, not better, as technology speeds change. #inequality#division#urban#rural 🎨: @edwardzisserhands
Welcome to America. Where wealthy white men get to rape women and young kids and serve little time, sometimes even just house arrest. If you’re anything like Brock Turner, you can get less time for “good behavior.” But if you, a woman of color, try to protect yourself you get sent for 51 years before you can be released. Racists continue to win. The capital continues to exist. Rich people continue to be free. This prison system has to go ASAP.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ɪɴᴇǫᴜᴀʟɪᴛʏ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀Look at this beautiful city from above on Lion's head before the sun is rising. It seems peaceful and tranquil but what's going on down there at this time is definitely the opposite. • You won't find white people walking on the street, since it's still a little dark. If you drive through the city you will only see black spooky looking people hanging around. If you take the highway next to the townships you'll read a warning on the billboards not to stop because of high crime risk. • All that is what bothers me so much - this extreme inequality and poverty. This unbearable division between black and white. If you go somewhere with your international friends it's most probably to white places and the only black people you will see are your waiters. I didn't expect it to be even worse than in Namibia. • Immediately I started to miss the crowd in Windhoek where I stood out because of my skin color but always felt comfortable and welcomed. Even there some white local people talked racist shit. Once I went to a mixed club called London and an hour later my black friends got harassed by some stupid white people. Ok, of course there bad people as there are good, I'm aware of that. Still I preferred to stay with my black community in Windhoek. In Cape Town it was different, I met an international crowd which was great as well. • However, I was glad that I experienced Namibia before and that I didn't believe immediately when people said bad things about townships and danger in poor communities. I have faith in the good of people, I trust - and I was never really disappointed, rather the opposite is the case. People surprise me everyday with their kindness! I feel so overwhelmed and I want to make other people feel the same. That's why I'm as kind as I can be. It multiplies happiness! •
