On thursdays we co op with 100+ other homeschool families. It is a full and fun day! Have you heard about unsocialized homeschoolers?! In our experience, there are plenty of opportunities for fun with friends. There are so many opportunities that we have to say no to many to make sure we stay home and accomplish some text book school 😁🤣😉! Today we had a spring carnival and the kids had Easter eggs. We are so blessed by our co op friends and teachers - fellow parents that are awesome humans!! Hope you had a great Thursday friends!!
Our science this week was growing salt crystal Easter eggs. ✨ We made the Easter egg out of pipe cleaners, mixed a heap of salt in boiling water and waited and watched .... the second photo shows our little egg 24 hours later!! ✨ It was a cool experiment and fun watching the crystals grow. Next time we’re thinking of leaving it in a little longer, trying different types of salt and adding some colour! • • • #homeschool#homeschoolaustralia#preschool#easter#easteregg
Today was Gavin’s last day of his first year of Preschool. Next year the program will be changing and he won’t have the same teacher anymore and I am SO sad about it! We loved his teacher soooooo much! . It was rough to find a good teacher I trusted for my son. Someone who I could tell deep down was a GOOD soul, who truly loved ALL her students and cared for them every day. Miss Kristen put so much thought and effort into everything and made everything so fun, and individualized her approach to each child as needed. I have been so grateful for her these past 7 months! . Ever since we started Preschool for Gavin last year, I have done a lot of soul searching and research on what really is best for my child and what does he need the most right now. What is the most important thing I can do for him regarding school and his current developmental age, etc.? It has given me a lot of interesting ideas! I’ve even considered starting my OWN preschool program (but decided against it, for now 😉). . I have very strong beliefs about childhood development and not making our kids grow up too fast - rushing them into exhausting schedules, overly structured play with lots of rules and educational expectations, etc... I want my kids to really enjoy the innocence and FREEDOM of childhood for as long as possible. Freedom to exercise curiosity and explore the world around them; run, play, climb, jump and giggle; use their imagination however they want; get dirty; lots of hugs and kisses from mom and time with siblings, etc... with boundaries taught & enforced by mamma! . Gavin is only 3 years old. Ive decided he won’t start Kindergarten until he turns 6. So he has TWO more years of preschool left! I don’t want him to get bored! So it’s very possible I will be homeschooling him this next year to give him a break, let him have more freedom at home with his family while he’s still so young. What’s the rush? If I’m a stay at home mom, this is my job right now! What
#repost @asleninde (@get_repost) ・・・ Most of my life I have felt like the most stupid person in the room. I was always surrounded by people who were way more knowledgeable than I. And instead of asking questions I just nodded and pretended to understand. Some of the vocabulary was also an issue in the beginning because English is my second language. And for a long time I think I may have used that as an EXCUSE! The result of not asking questions actually made me more ignorant and more defensive. In my 40’s I decided to SWITCH! I DECIDED to feel comfortable with my ignorance in social settings and ASK question upon question. This led to more internal suffering........ naturally! #nochill I understood so little! So I decided to take it all apart and start from bottom up ( the a, b, c’s ) and from top down ( eg. quantum physics ). And through this up and down and inside out process I would possibly have a better understanding of the topic. We have been told that knowledge is power and indeed it is. However, I’m more interested in UNDERSTANDING. I’m not interested in power. Schools don’t encourage this. And if they do they don’t give one enough TIME for us to inquire in depth. So we come out as jack of all trades and master of absolutely nothing. This is NOT empowering anyone! We are more confused than ever and definitely have more mental health issues. Soooooo, we have decided to pluck our 14 year old out of the school system to start a home schooling program. #caroldweck New revelations...... a new journey of uncertainty begins. A world without boxes! A freedom to ASK! #homeschoolrevolution#homeschool . . . #understanding#being#exploration#inquiry#askquestions#growthmindset#freedom#walkyourtalk#education#empowerouryouth#empoweryourself#knowledge#axelvervoordt @axelvervoordt #whoareyou#mentalhealthawareness
So in Adelaide, South Australia we had a semi warm day today which called for some outside water play and some building blocks. Blocks and water are two favourites in this household with these 2 crazies.
Week 23: Weather Day 2: Cloudy Extra Activity – Write the Room Another fun activity from the March subscription from @letsplayschool. He is nowhere near tracing letters to “write” words yet. So we did this more scavenger hunt style. He ran around the whole house searching for them, found and brought to me, identified on the sheet, told me what it was, and I crossed it off. Books Extra Activity 2 – Pre-writing practice Working on following the lines. This was not his most focused time doing this, but the general gist is there. Fine Motor – Cotton Ball Cloud He put glue dots and then cotton balls to cover this cloud. We also glued blue strips of construction paper as rain. Gross Motor –Catch the Clouds We used a mini fan as wind to move the balloon clouds all around the room and he loved chasing them and bringing back to fan. Sensory Bin – All Kinds of Clouds I filled a muffin tin with all sorts of white substances for a variety of textures. From top left in clockwise direction: shaving cream, melting white chocolate wafers, marshmallow cream, sugar cubes, cotton balls, paper towels, mini marshmallows (quite sticky and globbed together), and a ping pong ball. Song Snack – Cloud Bread It looked like a cloud but to be honest it was quite odd texture and flavor to eat. #teacher #curriculum #stayathomemom #homeschoolmom#homeschool #homeschooling #sensoryplay #sensorybin #sahm#homeschoollife #momlife #teacherlife #finemotor #library#playingislearning #letsplayschool #letsplaypretend#homeschoollife #preschool #preschoolathome #preachoolwithmommy#preschoolfun #weather #sunshine#mrsun#mrgoldensun#whatstheweather#spring#springweath
Wonder is one of the wildest elements and qualities on the massive scale of human experience. Just a pinch of it stops time. The world halts. The eyes fill. You become, for a small time, everything you truly are. -Victoria Erickson This girl swam through the cave three times! One of those times by herself... I want her to stop growing up but at the same time I can’t wait to see all the brave and adventurous things she end up doing in life.
