Aker; Mısır mitolojisinde ufuk çizgisinin tanrılaştırılmış hâlidir. Aker'in görevi Güneş'i ayarlamak ve yükseltmektir. #mitoloji #sanat #sanattarihi #art #historyofart #mthology #aker #anticentegypt

In occupied Paris, a Gestapo officer who had barged his way into Picasso’s apartment pointed at a photo of the mural, Guernica, asking: “Did you do that?” “No,”Picasso replied, “you did”. Being personally not totally sure to be able to overcome traces of war, I was for a long time thinking about the best way to deal with memory about it. So, from my point of view it’s wrong to forget about wars. It’s also wrong to cultivate hate in future generations. But it’s right to treat wars with a “critical memory”. Art helps. Hundreds of people daily come to see “Guernica” by Pablo Picasso. They feel what occurred with a little town in the Basque Country and get to know the awful, shame history of violence through a very strong message of art. Will they ever want to repeat it? I don’t think so.

~ Midwifery during the Middle Ages ~ In the Middle Ages, the midwife was initiated in her duties by other midwives or sometimes by fathers or husbands who were involved in medicine. A candidate for midwifery usually apprenticed herself to an older, experienced midwife, and from her she usually gained the necessary information and direction for her specialized duties. The most important requisite to become a midwife was a statement from the parish priest declaring the applicant to be of good character. Only women were able to practice midwifery in the Middle Ages. Doctors did not assist women during childbirth and men were excluded from the labor chamber. Therefore, midwives were indispensable. Due to their importance, midwives were able to practice however they pleased and set their own standards. However, their duties were outlined in some medical books. . These books stated that a midwife should "have the craft to assist women in childbirth, in order that they may bear children with less pain and trouble. She should anoint and bathe the mother. She should bathe the child first in water, then in salt and honey to dry up the humors and to comfort his limbs. Then she should wrap him up in swaddling clothes. If the child was sick, she was to use medicines to restore him to health. She should anoint him with noble ointments.” (from Trotas's book). Evidently, such directions were vague and therefore left the midwife largely to her own devices until laws were enforced in 1560. Beginning the 14th century, people started condemning midwives (or women generally) for practicing witchcraft and getting involved in witch organizations. In many of the cases charges were false, women and midwives only confessed to practicing witchcraft out of threats of torture and murder. It later had a great influence on women in the healing, midwifery, and nursing fields. . #midwife #midwifery #middleages #history #art #atlovers #arthistory #historyofart #painting #illumination

One of Athens' most emblematic monuments: the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates. Though small in size it's rich in history and cultural impact. Erected along the second most important road of ancient Athens, the so-called Street of Tripods, named such because winners of contests whose prize was a tripod could erect a monument to immortalise the glory of their victory upon which they placed the tripod. Lysicrates' monument is the only that survived and was originally erected to commemorate his victory as patron-sponsor of the chorus of the theatrical play by Lysiadas who won the first prize in 335-4 BCE. In 1669 the Capuchin Monastery annexed the monument and turned into a library and study room. It is in this monastery (destroyed in the Greek War of Independence) that Lord Byron stayed during his second visit. Fortunately it escaped Elgin's predatory attempts to purchase it and in 1818 saw the cultivation of the first tomatoes in Greece in the surrounding garden. The Monument became an emblem for the architectural and artistic Greek Revival movement in the 19th century and was copied and reproduced intact or in variations in so many famous buildings around the world it's just impossible to mention in one post. #athens #greekrevival #greece #monument #landmark #lysicrates #historyofarchitecture #greekarchitecture #historyofart #classicism #classicbeauty #architecturaldesign #classicalart #greekart #sponsor #patron #drama #theatre

Artist of the Day: MARCEL DUCHAMP. ________________________________________________ www.laparoleartgallery.com info@laparoleartgallery.com 052-1565954 / 9am-10pm Abu Dhabi Ladies Club #marcelduchamp#art#laparoleartgallery#artistchabib#historyofart#philosophy#artlovers#artdealers#artcollectors#artists#fineart#fineartinstitue#contemporaryart#abudhabiartscene#artknowledge#masters_inart#abudhabiartgalleries#abudhabi2019

Nebamun hunting in the marshes, ca. 1350 BCE. The main character is in a small boat, hunting birds with his wife Hatshepsut and their young daughter in the marshes of the Nile. Scenes of leisure had already been traditional parts of tomb-chapel decoration and they showed the tomb-owner “enjoying himself and seeing the beauty” in the afterlife, as the hieroglyphic caption says. Fertile marshes were a place of rebirth and eroticism, making this more than a simple image of recreation. The huge striding figure of Nebamun dominates, forever happy and forever young, surrounded by the rich and teeming life of the marsh. Hunting not only supplied food but represented Nebamun’s triumph over the forces of chaos • • • • • • • • • • • • • • #tatoarthistory #arthistory #historyofart #art #arte #historiadelarte #museum #museo #museumlover #igworldclub_museum #museumsarethenewblack #ihavethisthingwithmuseumpics #travelingarte #vivoartworld #britishmuseum #egypt #egyptianart #ancientegypt #nebamun #nebamunhunting
