HISTORY OF KENTÉ CLOTH... "An Ashanti legend has it that two friends who had gone hunting in the forest came across a giant spider (the famous Ananzé) who was weaving her web. They were so amazed that they stayed welded in place for two days, contemplating the spider at work. When they returned from hunting, they imitated the animal and wove a cloth out of raffia. This is how was born the first kente which was offered to the king. The Asantehene (king) was so amazed by the beauty of the present, that he elevated the weavers to the rank of royalty, and they became the king’s exclusive tailors. The clothes woven for the king were each unique, and whoever tried to reproduce them was severely punished. Kente is an Akan royal and sacred cloth worn only in times of extreme importance and is the cloth of kings and nobility, before finding its way into bags, and scarves sold around the globe nowadays. In Akan culture, the different colors and intricate patterns used in the weaving do have traditional meanings. Yellow: is the color of gold, and symbolizes preciousness, royalty, wealth (financial, spiritual, intellectual, etc), and fertility. It is associated with the earth’s generosity. This color is strongly represented in the kente, because the king, who wears it during public gatherings, embodies all these virtues: gold, royalty, wealth, high status, glory, spiritual purity. Yellow, just like the sun’s rays, also reminds of divine goodness.” Afrolegends.com STREAM “TURNS TO GOLD” BY HERB ALKHEMYST ON ALL MAJOR STREAMING NETWORKS ❀️ LINK IN BIO! The making of dope beats! Timbaland working his magic. Btw, Im going to age myself but I went to high school with Tim. He was a few years older than me but we were there at the same time. We werent friends, but I knew of him. Gene (Malice from the Clipse) also went to our high school. Wasnt friends with him either. He was also a few years older but I remember he was quiet, wore hammer pants and patent leather shoes (very dapper at the time) and had a pretty girlfriend. He was one of those dudes who looked like a grown assed man with a beard and whatnot. . . Also from my hometown (Virginia Beach) is Pharrell, who I met in 1994. We became very close friends over the years and were close for a long time. Lots and lots of memories with that cat. Being friends as he blew up, I was in the studio with him when some of your fav late 90s/early 2000s beats were made... and I met quite a few artists along the way. We started in Chad's parents house and in a few years we were in the biggest recording studios in NYC. When we first met, Pharrell didnt have two nickels or a car and I used to have to pick him up in my mom's car and drive us around. Within a few years his driver was picking me in the Rolls and/or limo and shuttling us around. I got to know Gene's brother Terrance (Pusha T) through Pharrell. Im not going to say too much about that one except to say I was shocked that the Clipse ended up coming being marketed as thugs/dope boys πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. On the other hand, Pharrell is EXACTLY who you would expect in real life. He has been exacrly the same since the first time I saw him kicking a free style in a cipher in front of Hampton U. He has always been a true creqtive, a non-conformist, and been in his own lane. Anyway, its a crazy feeling to see someone youre close to blow up before your eyes. Proud of both of Pharrell & Tim for their tremendous accomplishments and success. . . . #music #talent #beats #makingbeats #timbaland #virginiabeach #hiphop
