Sometimes life throws you curve balls. They might cause you to worry or add feelings of anxiousness to your life. That’s because Life is a bloody roller coaster, full of good and bad. The outcome of anything you do is always uncertain and can allways change for better or worse. The time I spent in Greenland really made my life transparent, it gave me the opportunity to dive deep into my mind. “Life’s only as good as your mindset” and right now I think my roller coaster is pretty flipn good! ✌🏻
Yesterday's hike reminded me of the importance of being prepared & to not do dumb stuff for your photos. We saw so many people who were not prepared at all. So many people in normal shoes (some even wearing bright white ones) knowing this trail is wet, muddy, slippery, & likely either snowing or icy at the lake (at least I hope they knew...always read trip reports & try to figure out conditions to the best of your ability before you go). You literally have to cross mini falls & creeks & your feet will definitely get wet if not wearing waterproof boots. People wearing normal street clothes you would see at the mall knowing it would be cold. No backpacks with them which means not equipped if something went wrong. People walking out to the middle of the lake when it only had a thin layer of ice, much thinner than it's been looking in past trip reports & you can see it melting on the edges & hear it popping while walking the perimeter of the lake. I will never walk on a frozen lake. I've seen too many movies of people falling in & not being able to get out because current underneath or ice breaking around them as they try to pull themselves up. Not worth it for a picture guys. Also cutting through woods & not staying on trail & damaging things just so they can get to the lake faster. There was more I saw but these were just the few. I hate being the person to call it out because once upon a time Joe & I were inexperienced & weren't always prepared as well as we should have been, even now sometimes we do things spur of the moment, but some of the things I saw yesterday were pretty ridiculous & you see it a lot on popular trails. I think it's even more important to be prepared in the winter time when conditions are pretty rough & always changing. Sometimes I feel people hike & go on trails literally just for a pic on Instagram & to see any blatant disrespect for nature & trail conditions always gets to me a little.
Finally did the popular Heather Lake trail this morning. The lake wasn't as snowy as it probably was a few weeks ago, mostly icy, but it was still beautiful. I'm really loving throwing in some of these popular hikes during this winter season because the crowds are way smaller than summer time and since we are still earlybirds no matter the time of year we always get to enjoy some solitude! I've gotten hikes done this fall and winter that I typically avoid due to popularity & big crowds and it's been awesome! Also, normally I try not to tag specific locations to not overcrowd places (and I'm a firm believer that if you do the research you can find it too) but trails like this that are already well-known, may as well tag the place so people can see trail conditions. Anyways, hike 4 of 52 is complete! I'll be sharing more pics throughout the week. Hope everyone is having a great Saturday! . . . . . . . . . . . #heatherlake#winter#winterwonderland#snow#washington#pnw#upperleftusa#pnwonderland#pnwlife#hike#hiking#beautiful#outdoors#nature#getoutside#optoutside#outdoorwomen#roamtheplanet#exploretocreate#welivetoexplore#explore#adventure#womenwhohike#womenwhoexplore#pnwcollective#washingtontrails#northwestisbest#visualsoflife#sheexplores#letsgosomewhere
