Our new menu and wine list is finally here! The meals pictured are just a few of our delicious new offerings: Tortelloni alla crema di pomodoro, filetto al cognac, and capesante con piselli. Also shown are our Super Tuscans from our new wine list. (The term Super Tuscan was coined in the early 1980’s to describe a red blend from Tuscany. What makes ‘super Tuscan’ wine different from other Tuscan wines (like Chianti) is the use of wine grapes that are not indigenous to Italy, particularly Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.) #roma#authenticitalian#handmadepasta#romaindy#carmelfoodie#supertuscan#scallops#filetmignon#tortelloni
Bad Pictures of Great Foods presents: pici cacio & pepe, and cavatelli with broccoli, chilli, garlic, anchovi & pecorino from Padella, a super sought after Italian bistro in the Borough Market that I discovered by chance. My plan was to go to the Tate Modern and then eating lunch there, but the food in and around museums tend to be bland and/or overpriced, so I decided to grab an early lunch near the subway station and go to the museum after. My trusted Lonely Planet guide directed me to the Borough Market and to Padella - which already had a small queue forming in front of it, half an hour before its opening time! When the clock turned 12 pm, there were at least 60 people behind me. The hype is justified: great food, excellent prices (pasta starts at £4), vibrant ambience with the option of sitting right in front of the kitchen, and friendly service. I started my meal with the cacio & pepe, and then thought "hmm, it's just cheese and pepper, there's not much nutricional value there. I should care for my vitamin and minerals intake in this time of great caloric spending, so I will take the cavatelli with broccoli as well". So I did it for my health. (haha yeah, sure. No, the portions are small-ish, so it's normal to order more than one dish) #pasta🍝 #handmadepasta#droolclub#feedfeed#foodblog#fooddiary#foodforfoodies#tablesituation#tastespotting
The recipe for a dish called torteletti appears in 1570 from Bartolomeo Scappi.Vincenzo Tanara's writings in the mid-17th century may be responsible for the pasta's renaming to tortellini. In the 1800s, legends sprang up to explain the recipe's origins, offering a compromise. Castelfranco Emilia, located between Bologna and Modena,is featured in one legend, in which Venus stays at an inn. Overcome by her beauty, the innkeeper spies on her through a keyhole, through which he can only see her navel. He is inspired to create a pasta in this shape. In honor of this legend, an annual festival is held in Castelfranco Emilia. They are typically stuffed with a mix of meat (pork loin, raw prosciutto, Mortadella), and Parmigiano Reggianocheese. Originally from the Italian region of Emilia (in particular Bologna and Modena), they are usually served in broth (in brodo), either of beef, chicken, or both. #tortelliemiliani#tortelli#lovecooking#amorepasta#handmadepasta
There’s nothing like a classic Carbonara! Known to be one of the trickier pastas to make - come and join us and taste for yourself, we think it’s pretty damn good! • There are various stories on how the dish and its name came about, all fairly anecdotal. . Carbonara translates to ‘charcoal seller or burner’ with this pasta having been one of the hearty dishes made for or by Italian coal miners originally with Penne as it was easier to toss. This dish and term became popular in the US after American GIs returning home and was since known as ‘Coal Miner’s Spaghetti’ #pastahistory#handmadepasta#tasteofitaly#sorrentinabyfoodhall#knowyourpasta#pastastories#foodstories#classicitalian
