I often find myself wondering about the 3 families that lived in our house before us... did they enjoy the sunsets from the balcony as much as I do? Did they use the attic? Who put up the bedroom wallpaper? When was the basement toilet turned into an outhouse...? How did they decorate at Christmas time? Where did they put their tree? Ever since we moved in (maybe before) I've been thinking "that corner in the back room was made for a Christmas tree" (it was actually made as a bedroom for 2 brothers, but that's a whole story for another post), and I just say, I'm quite pleased with how the holiday decorating has come together ❤💚🎄🏡 #homeonridgewood#greatwindows#christmasdecorating#redandgold#thetreeisup

Throwback Thursday: This is a shot of the new addition in the 18th century CT house project that I did many years ago. The proportions of the room are beautiful and the windows were a serendipitous thing. The manufacturer had made an error when fabricating them and caused a delay in the schedule. So my architect and builder was able to get them to do wider muntins and mullions at no extra cost! In my experience, when something goes wrong on a project, a good vendor will try to make up for the error and in the long run, you are better off than you would have been had there been no mistake. This is an important reason designers are careful about who we work with. Even with careful planning and a lot of experience, things can go wrong. The important thing is how you handle it and making it better than before is a great way to ease the pain! ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #howproshandleproblems#makeitright#interiordesign#renovation#howyouhandleamistake#workwithapro#whiteroom#westportct#ctantiquehouse#antiquehouse#simplicity#windowswithstyle#greatwindows#cleanandsimple#housebeautiful
Here is a great example of mixing modern with antique to create a colorful and comfortable living room. This is how designer Timothy Corrigan combined 18th and 19th and 20th century antiques and works of art into his Los Angeles living room. It includes a custom and beautifully designed inlaid coffee table, 18th century Venetian painted console table, 18th century paintings and bronzes, and 20th century artwork and accessories. The antique oriental rug on the floor is relatively muted in color, and the upholstered sofa and arm chairs are lively in pattern but fairly neutral in color with the exception of the flame stitch accent pillows. . . The great natural light coming through the windows and doors makes artificial lighting unnecessary during daylight hours. With enough imagination and a skillful eye, combining art and antiques and accessories from modern to ancient is very possible, and it can have, as in this example, a beautiful effect, as far as exhibiting warmth, comfort and overall beauty are concerned. As usual, I favor some fresh flowers or plants in any living room area if possible. . . . #antiques#antique#design#antiquepainting#goodeye#greatdesign#greatinteriordesign#antiqueaccessories#interiordesign#antiqueinteriors#antiquedecor#beautifuldesign#homecomfort#livingrooms#comfort#highceilings#greatwindows#summercomfort
