LA MICHOACANA NG TACO TUESDAY!!! Well, I’ve found the new home of my favorite Al Pastor in the city. It’s La Michoacana NG at NW23rd & Ann Arbor Ave. The service was excellent, and the tacos were equally as good. The Al Pastor was spot on fresh and juicy. There’s a window into the kitchen where you can watch them shave the meat right off the spinning hunk of goodness. I ate 3 and probably could have downed 3 more. I had to make room for the Rajas taco. Rajas con queso is a taco filling made with fresh Poblano chile, a mild green chile typically used for chiles rellenos, rajas, and crema de poblano. I haven’t run across it that many times. So I had to get one. I ate it in 3 bites. I can’t remember breathing in between any of them. Yeah, they’re that good. They even have a second area that is an ice cream parlor that includes flavored waters. I had a sample of the strawberry cheesecake ice cream and it was delicious. I met the owner’s brother Juan, and he was excited about some things they have planned for the place. ⠀ Я потихоньку втягиваюсь обратно в домашнюю кухню - в сентябре на меня обвалился плотный график совмещения работы и учебы, и на гастрономические изыски просто не хватало сил сдерживать аппетит😄половина ингредиентов шла бы в голодный ход прямо с доски. Теперь график стал заметно свободнее (наверное, ненадолго), и я позволила себе немного творчества. ⠀ Овощное крудите с соусом блю чиз стало откровением, принёсшим пользу и вкус в мои будни. ⠀ «Рецепт» слишком громко звучит, поэтому обойдусь парой строк: для соуса смешать рокфор (я беру в синей фольге, он один из самых часто встречающихся) - 100 г, сметану 20% - 90 г, сливки 20-22% - 2 ст.л., лимонный сок - 1-2 ст.л., чеснок - 2 зубчика, молотый чёрный перец. Опционально можно добавить петрушку, но я этого не делала. Все ингредиенты смешиваем блендером или вручную с помощью ложки. Я смешивала вручную, потому что не люблю слишком однородную консистенцию - и мыть блендер. Но придётся не филонить и смешать как следует - вам же туда овощи макать, в конце концов. If you are a Trader Joe’s lover like I am you probably noticed that they now have wild salmon. So which type of salmon is healthier, farmed or wild, and what is the difference between them? . . Like with all other animals, Fish are a product of they eat. Happy, healthy, wild, free-roaming salmon eat other smaller fish and krill, while farm raised salmon primarily eat fishmeal. Given the big differences in the composition of their diets the nutritional content of wild and farm salmon varies as well. . . Wild salmon has less calories, less saturated fat, more protein and may contain lower levels of contaminants. I know what you’re thinking: but wild salmon doesn’t taste as good as farmed. Honestly, this is a common perception but probably because you have been cooking wild salmon wrong. Due to its lower fat content wild salmon needs to be cooked more carefully. Overcooking is quite easy and will cause it to become dry and tough. . . The majority of farmed salmon (90%) are Atlantic salmon. Although both are good sources of omega-3 fatty acids farmed salmon has been shown to have higher levels, but keep in mind it is also higher in saturated fat (hence higher in calories), omega -6 fatty acids and may contain more contaminants and risky pollutants. . . My viewpoint here is similar to how I feel about free range chicken and pasture raised beef so I advocate for wild salmon if possible but I’m not here to stress you out. There is really no wrong answer here as most of the population could benefit from eating more fish. Healthy is not an all or nothing equation. Let affordability and availability guide your choice. If wild salmon is too expensive or not available load up on local organic and seasonal veggies! Less than perfect choices can always be balanced with more other more wholesome options. If you opt for farmed, I recommend obtaining your salmon from Whole Foods as they have implemented strict quality standards to ensure they’re sourcing farmed
