Kintsugi Mortar & Pestle This Ovoid Vessel was broken some time ago & slowly cracked a little more every time I used it, until finally it fell apart (see last image). It was one of the first I ever made, & so was the very first thing I wanted to repair when I learned how. It has been repaired with the New Kintsugi Repair Kits we are importing into Australia for you to use at home - you can find them in the online shop in the bio under “tools” (they almost sold out in 24 hours, but don’t worry, we’ve ordered more already, in both gold & silver). A simple, less allergenic, & much faster drying alternative to the urushi sap used in traditional kintsugi repairs. We don’t all have time to wait months for our repaired pieces to cure, & perform many steps in between drying stages to get the perfect finish (& deal with the possible allergic reaction many have to the natural plant sap), so these kits are designed for an easier, less fussy, & more immediate result reminiscent of the seams of gold we find in traditional kintsugi repair. Do you like the results? There has been a mixed response to these pieces so far, with some people unsure of the thick bold seams produced by this method in favour of the fine, flat versions achieved by sanding in between stages, & others are in love with the tactile, raised finish achieved here... What do you think?
7 Days - 7 Steps of Throwing on the Potter’s Wheel. Wednesday - Step # 3 Centering— wheel at medium to full speed ✔️Stay in position 1. Apply equal pressure from both hands: forward pressure from your stabilized hand, and downward pressure from your forming hand. ✔️Maintain pressure until the clay centers and holds perfect symmetry (they clay should rotate smoothly in your hands without any wobble, vibrations, or bulging). The clay should be round and cake-like, with proper wall-to- top proportions.
When I decided to add flowing hills and valleys, I was still really focused on the buildings. When I finished the surface, it’s the landscape that brought out what I now see as farmland with crops at dusk. What do you see? I just added these to my Etsy shop. Free shipping too! Here’s a little look at some of our stoneware pieces which have beautiful, unique finish created with recycled glass. Each plate, platter and bowl has been applied with ground glass, which reacts during firing to achieve these unusual shapes and patterns, different on every item.

Then at 2pm, the gate it lifted! So if you want first dibs, get on the mailing list now. Otherwise: 2pm tomorrow. Thanks for your support and also a preemptive thank you as this is a big next step and inevitably there will be some little hiccups — I appreciate your patience and cooperation :)
We launched our first Splatware range nearly 2 years ago 😱 and oh let me tell you it was a huge learning curve. Not only was it our 1st tableware range but it was also the first product we made using our ram press. ⠀ ⠀ It seemed so easy at first - playing with colours and pattern - rolling and wedging together clays and pressing them into shape - but so so many things went wrong. Thousands and thousands of plates and cups were pressed - and we probably got as many duds as we got firsts 💀⠀ ⠀ Ah what a journey - from testing to the products reaching their final homes it was a long process. Luckily for us you lot were super patient folks 😘 ⠀ ⠀ After Splatware v1 and then making tons of our encaustic tiles we finally started to get to know the ins and outs of the ram press, the physics of pressing and the chemistry of clay bodies - so we're finally starting to re-stock our splatware range 🤗⠀ ⠀ We're starting with the platters - which are BIG - they're pretty much at the limit of what you can make on our press and with a satisfying weight that feels good to pick up - we can't wait to share them with you all!⠀ ⠀ #tableware#modernceramics#ceramicstudio#handmadeceramics#platter#claylife#functionalceramics#encaustic#ceramicsdesign#liverpool
Presenting: Pizza Power Animals, custom utensils Crocks made especially for @stonesthrowvt ! This project what a bit of a Murphy's Law labor of love that started back in Oct/Nov of last year when our friends Allie, Tyler, and Silas opened Stones Throw in Fairfax, VT. Allie requested utensil crocks that featured an owl, a fox, and an obscure, but cute, weasel creature called a pine marten. I took a little artistic license and decided to include slices of pizza, calling them "pizza power animals," and I had great fun chuckling my way through carving them. Then the problems began...I made these in the community studio before I transitioned to my home studio and for the first and only time, one handle was broken when loaded into the bisque kiln. I used it as a test piece for glazes and remade it (of course I didn't make extras OR take wet measurements, which is stupid on my part)...and then I hated the glazes...so we went with clear. And then I decided I hated the forms and the plain clear glaze and I remade all three so that they looked a little sexier, and not so...frumpy. FINALLY, after like 7 months, they are ready to make their voyage north to Vermont. You can see them in person and get a seriously delicious pizza (get the "forager," trust and believe) and pint from @stonesthrowvt ! I included the original frumpy little sisters for comparison- still cute, but I'm glad I started over! #pizzathemes#wheelthrown#wheelthrownpottery#handmadepottery#sgraffito#potteryteachespatience#potterlife#potterystudio#pottersofinstagram#instapottery#potterylove#fox#owl#pinemarten#handsandhustle#handmade#maker#stonewareclay#functionalpottery#functionalceramics#cricketsonataceramics
I had made this for the teacher gifts but it had a we bit of a disaster in the kiln so it was ungiftable. I say this is a win for me. I LOVE 💗 this mug. Definitely one of my favourites. I love the shape, colour and it may be my favourite handle. I have learned a lot with this mug. Can’t wait to try again.
Ceramics feels synonymous with mug making classes as people look for alternatives to screen time at weekends. We have two upcoming Sunday mug making workshops in July. The first is fully booked but we still have a few spots remaining for the second one (link in bio to book). Spend your Sunday making and playing with clay ☺️ ☕️ (Includes coffee and biscuits) This slightly trippy mug is by @charlottelnewbold #studiopansa#dirtyhandsclearmind#ceramics#amsterdam#ceramicsculptures
I have been trading pottery for plant bebes! This one is a philodendron mican that has taken well to its new home. It has velvety leaves and hints of red on the underside and on the vines. I try not to pick favorites but right now this little one gets all of my love 🌱😻 . . . #plantlady#philodendron#ceramicplanter#redeverything
🌵 Here’s another mug from this week’s firing. These cacti mugs were a big hit at the @boulderpottersguild spring sale. A few of you asked for them, AND I love making them, so I’ll be adding a few of these to the next shop update fo sho.
For all those who missed out on attending the Serenity West + Friends Pop-Up last weekend, I've updated my online shop with all my current works! ⠀ ⠀ Use promo code FOMO for 15% off your entire order from now until July 1st!⠀ ⠀ Photo by @devanagscott ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
