Renowned Mexican artist Frida Kahlo was born in, and lived and died in, La Casa Azul (Blue House), now a museum. Almost every visitor to Mexico City makes a pilgrimage here to gain a deeper understanding of the painter. Built by Frida's father Guillermo three years before her birth, the house is littered with mementos and personal belongings that evoke her long, often tempestuous relationship with husband Diego Rivera and the leftist intellectual circle they often entertained here. Kitchen implements, jewelry, outfits, photos and other objects from the artist’s everyday life are interspersed with art, as well as a variety of pre-Hispanic pieces and Mexican crafts. The collection was greatly expanded in 2007 after the discovery of a cache of previously unseen items that had been stashed in the attic. Kahlo’s art expresses the anguish of her existence as well as her flirtation with socialist icons: portraits of Lenin and Mao hang around her bed and, in another painting, Retrato de la familia (Family Portrait), the artist’s Hungarian-Oaxacan roots are fancifully entangled. -Lonely planet -www.kahloshouse.com #kahlos_house_mexican_boutique#fridakahlo#fridakahlofashion#fridakahloinspired#fridakahloart#fridakahlostyle#liketoknowit#mexicoistheshit#likeit#ilikemexico#fridakahlolovers#fridakahloquotes#mexicarte#inspiredbyfrida#fridainspired#mexicanart#feminism#fridafashion#fridaforever#fridavibes#fridakahlofans#itkstyletip#onlineshop#onlineboutique#shopsmall#bohochic#bohemianstyle#bohostyle#fashioninspo#originalstyle
Frida definitely got the #onwednesdayswewearpink memo! 😆 I painted this last year, but then I turned it into stickers and realized I hadn't shared! Are you a #fridafan ? Who is your favorite artist? I always struggle to decide, but I know exactly which painting I was most impressed by in person! I saw it in high school and was overcome by its size, incredible detail, and lively composition. I stared at it for what seemed like hours! Whenever I see pictures of it now, they never seen to capture it's magnificence, sadly! But I will tell you, if you ever get a chance to catch it in person, Luncheon of the Boating Party by Renoir is breathtaking! 🙌✨ Do you remember what painting or artist had the biggest impression on you? . Also, I'm going to include the link to the Frida stickers from my #etsyshop below, if anyone is interested! I'll also link a $10 Sticker Mule credit because they are my favorite! Sometimes in the darkest places of our reality is when we get the chance to build strength. Do not fear the chaos of the unknown because is within the darkness that we can find parts of our true self. 🌺
Who are some of your favourite female artists throughout history? Frida Kahlo has to be up there on my list. I’m so glad I got to see the exhibition on her last year. This is my illustration of her that’s also available in three sizes of prints.
