Another highlight of the meal was this shiso-wrapped chateaubriand tempura dipped into truffle salt. Overall, our experience at Takiya was truly excellent. Kasamoto-san uses safflower oil to fry his ingredients producing a very light and crispy tempura full of delicious flavors.
Physalis peruviana or commonly called Cape gooseberry, goldenberry or golden berry. These are another favorite of ours. The plant itself can grow into a diffusely branched shrub reaching 1–1.6 m (3.3–5.2 ft) in height, with spreading branches and velvety, heart-shaped leaves. One plant can produce as many as 300 berries! They taste sweet and we love adding them to salads or on icecream. This will be the second year we grow them from our own seeds and germination have been really good. Although the chateaubriand (on the right hand side) was truly excellent (the sirloin on the left was good but does not compare), we were left a bit dissapointed by our meal at Vesta... maybe due to our high expectations as our meal here last year was special and memorable. (The Troplong Mondot however was a beautiful and explosive wine and may have been the highlight of our meal 👌🍷)
Bears. Beats. Burger King Fries. If you're a fan of The Office, you probably feel like something is slightly off about that sentence....that's my basic thoughts on @burgerking fries. Slightly off but I can see what you were going for. By no means are these fries bad. They are simply meh. To date, this has been the hardest review I have ever written (assuming you don't count the fake Google reviews I offer to write on craigslist #sidehustle). Mainly because nothing about these fries are really memorable. They have a pretty nice golden crisp to them and BK does a great job of making sure they are always hot and ready with your order. The crunch on them is actually the best part of these fries. In fact, if I only judged fast food fries by their crunch, BK fries would rank among the top of the list. They are never too greasy which is always a plus. Salt and Pepper condiments also stick well to these fries. Unfortunately, this is where the conversations end. Everything else about these fries is bland and boring. My guess is that BK expects the chosen entrée to carry the majority of the weight. Speaking of which the Morning Star burger sold at BK is...OK. Honestly, I'm just happy to see more restaurants adding vegan options to the menu. That leads me to this week’s fry review…. @chickfila • • • • • Friendly disclaimer, I really have a soft spot for Chick-Fil-A because I spent years working in the same mall being greeted by the same Chick-Fil-A employees. When the mall's air conditioning went out during a triple-digit Texas summer, CFA was there. When the holiday season was in full swing and angry parents were fighting over the last Rue21 faux leather jacket, CFA was there. When Sears decided to stop selling iPhone 5 cases...in 2018, CFA was there. In all seriousness, CFA makes my all-time favorite waffle fry. These fries are extremely consistent and the wide variety of sauces available to choose from only complement these spuds. The golden fries when hot have a savory flavor that makes each bite worth those extra miles you’ll be running tomorrow. That ever so gently sprinkled on sodium is also a big mood. In the con category, the fries can often be extremely greasy, even soaking the containers they are held within. When cold, few fries seem to hold up and these are no exception to that test. All in all, I love Chick-Fil-A for its fries, service, and efficiency. When I told my girlfriend I’d be reviewing CFA fries, her response was: “Heck yes! Instead of ‘eat more 🐔’ their motto should be ‘eat more 🍟’.” Well said, babe.
