Playing is an essential part of healing !  Getting "lighter" and doing something you love just for the fun of it.  It takes your mind off of your current circumstances and puts you in this precious energetic flow 💖💞 . Doing something that brings you JOY! . For me, two things that bring me great joy is creating food (making raw chocolate is one of my faves ) and taking photos. . I had a blast making 2 kinds of Raw Snickers bars today. Certainly not something you would want to eat everyday, but it sure is a treat. I will take more photos later, where the light will be better. (it was so dismal and grey out when I make the chocolate.  None of the pics are stellar !) . I don't eat chocolate, but I did have to keep tasting it to balance out the ingredients ! (I make it from scratch, and love to add all kinds of superfoods to it, like Maca , chia seeds, spirulina, and goji berries !) . If you would have told me ten years ago that I would be inspiring healthy living, I would have thought you were nuts. Now it’s my passion. I’m passionate because I feel so good! I’m passionate because I finally have a healthy gut and a digestive system that works.  If you have ever had a messed up gut, you know what I am talking about. Your gut is your second brain. If it’s unhealthy, a host of illnesses are bound to creep in. I developed an autoimmune disease which meant migraines, no energy, anxiety, and depression because I was anxious. Oh and the lovely IBS that comes with a messed up gut!  I’m angry that I did not GET healthy living sooner! I’m pissed no one told me my eating and lifestyle habits could make a huge difference!  Now though, I have to really try hard to remember what feeling so bad felt like.  That’s why I will share health and wellness with anyone that will open their mind and listen!  Our health is our greatest gift. Our health is our wealth.

Imagine a delicate, thin tube that starts at your mouth and goes straight down to your rear end. . Over time that hose becomes damaged by foods, acid, pesticides, medications and stress. . What was for dinner last night?  Well we had salmon and chicken thawed so I decided to go crazy and cook them both! 🍗🍗🍗 1️⃣chicken - I simmered it in a sauce I made that consisted of white wine, olive oil, fresh garlic, chopped onion, parsley, Himalayan salt and pepper. It took about 25 minutes simmering in the concoction on low heat to end up with perfect juicy chicken legs.  2️⃣Salmon - I rubbed in fresh grated ginger and garlic with salt and pepper. Then topped it with fresh cut lemon slices, chopped parsley, and a healthy dose of #cocoaminos. Then baked it at 375 degrees for 25 minutes (covered with aluminum to keep in the moisture). 3️⃣Veggie medley - this was a simple mix of sliced squash and zucchini topped with olive oil, Himalayan salt and pepper. Then I sautéed it in a wok for about 5 minutes (you wanna be careful not too overlook zucchini or it ends up soggy and mushy.... I like to stop cooking when it still has a decent crunch). 🍗🍗🍗 Keeping with my efficient kitchen theme, this meal took less than an hour to cook start to finish.  The key here is that we have consistent habits and hacks in place in our kitchen to make sure that cooking a healthy meal is as easy as can be. A couple examples: 1️⃣thaw meat or protein first thing in the morning, that way after work in the evening... there’s you at least have something available to cook 2️⃣Theres a lot of free recipes online, the key is to have the ingredients available in your kitchen to cook them easily without a run to the store... So, do your shopping once a week and stock up on basic veggies that add flavor to your food (onion, garlic, parsley, ginger). That way if you look up an easy recipe you will have the minimum ingredients available to whip it up. 3️⃣Enjoy!  Play some music, talk to your family, make it fun!  Cooking (like exercise) doesn’t have to be a chore!

I love making cauliflower rice stir fry with any veggies I have on hand and adding a few large handfuls of greens right at the end to get them soft and slightly wilted, but not soggy.  _ Spinach (seen in this meal) is a staple in my diet, and it should be in yours too! Iron deficiency can effect how the body uses energy, calcium is crucial for bone health, and magnesium deserves its own post!  _ Magnesium is necessary for a healthy immune system, maintaining blood pressure, getting quality sleep, keeping a regular heart rhythm, and maintaining energy metabolism, muscle and nerve function. Repost from @spreadtheraw here is Tyler’s story Age 2- - diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy and given depakote  Age 14- been off depakote 2 years and has had no seizure activity.  At age 2 Years old Tyler was given his Pertussis shot (part of DPT) shot and that night he had 2 massive seizures. He became stiff as a board and was quickly turning blue and gasping for air. At that point medical attention was already on the scene. From that day on Tyler started having regular seizures and they diagnosed him with epilepsy. They called them idiopathic seizures because they couldn’t figure out the reason for them. They put him on Depakote. They told us if we didn’t put him on depakote he would eventually get brain damage from the seizures. So of course we did because back then we had no clue. At this point we were on a vegan diet already, but eating lots of soy and not gluten free. In 2010 we moved to NC. When we went to our new neurologist (who was a mainstream doctor) he had mentioned that on the EEG scan his brain activity looked normal and that we should try gluten free to help slow down or stop the seizures. I quickly questioned him and he had said gluten can cause seizures. So we did that and it reduced the seizures  by 80 percent. At this point he was having them once in a blue.  Fast forward to 2015-  We began the @medicalmedium protocol.  Lemon water Hawaiian spirulina  Dulse flakes Barley grass powder HMD smoothie  Sovereign Silver Lemon balm Goldenseal Mary Ruth’s vitamins and minerals Zinc Liposomal vitamin c  b12 B complex  For 2 years straight these were the supplements he took everyday. As far as diet goes we did: 16 ounces of lemon water HMD smoothie Salad for lunch with 1/2 avocado  32 ounces of Juices- orange and apple Smoothie - usually wild bb , pitaya, banana, dates, coco water Dinner was usually another salad or a dehydrator meal.  I kept his fat somewhat low probably around the 15 percent range I would say.  All of these things I mentioned

As health and fitness bloggers, it’s our job to equip you with new ideas and tips, but what’s the best way of incorporating new tips into your routine? Here’s a great way to approach setting up new habits because we all know darn well it’s not that easy. . 1 - Pick one or two areas at a time: In order to get a new habit to truly stick, it’s easier to focus on that for a little bit before adding in a new habit. . 2 - Value progress over perfection: It’s all about baby steps in the right direction. Don’t compare yourself to someone who’s been meal prepping and eating clean for 5 years. Instead compare yourself to your habits last week. Are you eating less processed foods? Are you making more meals at home? Those are all wins! . 3 - Be kind & forgiving to yourself: You wouldn’t talk to a friend in a cruel or belittling way, so why do that to yourself? Life’s a cha-cha. You may take one step back to take three steps forward and that’s what matters. . Remember, if you see people with all these great habits, they didn’t add them overnight. Also not every tip/health habit etc will resonate with you. Maybe meditation isn’t your thing but you find a gratitude practice grounding. Maybe you hate the sauna but hot yoga is where it’s at for you. On Monkey Mind: This morning, the waves, the wind, and my mind all shared one quality and that was of rapid movement. The waves were rushing to reach to shore, the wind gusting and blowing as if in a hurry to get to a certain destination, and my mind racing with thoughts…lots and lots of thoughts. Ah…that monkey mind of mine! 💙  If not careful and aware, it could start creating ‘a story’ with these thoughts and let’s be honest here, most of the time it’s not a very pleasant one. As I stood there and witnessed each wave approach hurriedly then see it crash on the rocks, I quickly saw the resemblance  between the waves and my thoughts, and was aware that if not careful, these thoughts can also cause me a crash, and honestly who needs that? ❤ Learning my lessons from nature -as I always do- and avoiding a crash, I set my intention on calming the mind and was able to achieve this by totally acknowledging each thought as it presented, then releasing it with love. Is that it all takes? You might wonder. Yes it is as easy and simple as that, trust me. View from the balcony. You can't even see the streets or sidewalks anymore, it's just snow! And it's still coming down with no signs of stopping. The whole sky is white with snow! 🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️ @homegrownhealers did a post that reminded me that even though it's winter and my liver has slowed down a bit, I am doing exponentially better than I was last winter thanks to my healing with @medicalmedium information. And that's without the detox baths I used to rely so heavily on to keep warm! 🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️ Our bathtub has been out of commission for months, and the only way to fix it relies on some pretty powerful chemicals, so we opted to wait until we move out in April to let them fix it. 🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️ Meanwhile I rely on other things to keep warm: slippers over my socks, wearing a toque indoors, warm showers and body butter afterwards, teas, ginger, cayenne and red pepper flakes in my food, healing broth, soups, sweaters and layers. 🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️ And while last year I really struggled through winter, this year I'm using all the tools I have, and I'm doing significantly better. I usually have SAD this time of year as well, and while it's not completely gone, it's definitely lessened significantly, and I'm much more functional than this time last year. 🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️ I'm grateful for all of my healing. I was going to say the little things and the big, but really, it's all huge, because it all means my quality of life goes up and my health continues to improve. It's no longer #nationalpizzaweek but I wanted to share a #veganpizza recipe that is a hit with the whole family. Sweet Potato Crust Pizza requires a lot of prep by chopping veggies and grating cheese, but is totally worth the time! 🥔 The crust is created by thinly sliced sweet potatoes. You can use a vegetable slicer or, if you don't have one, a regular chef's knife will do. For toppings and seasonings, you can use anything your heart desires! This particular pizza was topped with the whole garden 😁: marinara, bell peppers, spinach, broccoli, red onion, olives, mushrooms, soy crumbles, and shredded vegan cheese from @followyourheart. They make the best vegan cheese, in my opinion, as far as taste and ability to melt (I use this cheese to make an excellent queso!). Although they sell shredded cheese, I buy the block cheese because it's the best value (more ounces, less money)! This pizza is not #ketofriendly because of the tuber, but replace that with zucchini and you have a vegetable pizza that is super healthy! I haven’t had a nutrigrain bar in months and it was quite good! I microwaved it and it make it even that much better! I sometimes wish people could hear this battle going on in my head. I wish that they could understand the fight I have to go through everyday. My Eating Disorder never leaves, when I close my eyes at the end of the day I don’t get to lose him. Even after the long day of fighting, beating him down he does not leave. He comes to my dreams and I have to fight him here as well. Fighting this battle is a full time job. I had to quit a lot of things and focus on my recovery but I deserve to focus on my health. Especially when I am battling a part of my mind that I can not get rid of.
