A favorite pattern feature: a faux wrap skirt that will stay in place during wear yet give the great twirl and sweet style your girl loves so much! Blake has both this faux wrap option with hemline ruffle or can be sewn as a simple top or dress!
Ever seen a message come through on Etsy or email or wherever and gotten so excited - because, YAY a customer is reaching out to ask about your items! 😆But then felt your stomach hit the floor when you open the message, and it turns out to be some other maker asking you to share your materials or suppliers? 😩Ugh… not so awesome. Because you’re now in a weird position where you feel like you have to tell them (even if you don’t want to), or else come across as a total Selfish So and So. 😎Only, it’s actually not a bad thing to keep trade secrets! 🤷🏻♀️You don’t see Coca Cola out here giving away the recipe... 💥Yes, there are other (very similar) colas on the market, but none are an exact replica of Coke’s formula. They’ll never tell! Which is them doing what many businesses do - protecting proprietary info. 🧐I’m wondering - has anyone ever asked you to share some of your handmade biz secrets? Like where you source certain materials or what suppliers you use for your top seller? (If it hasn’t happened to you yet - just wait! It’s inevitable.) 🍭It’s one of the most controversial topics in the handmade industry. Should you be like Coke and keep it to yourself, or should you share? 🥤You might not be as massive as Coca-Cola, but you’ve likely spent a lot of time and money finding the perfect supplies and methods for creating your products. • If this is a situation you’ve found yourself struggling with (or want to know what to do when it happens), you’ve got to check out this post on the Merriweather Council Blog, where I dig into the topic: 👋🏼 //What to Do When People Ask You to Share Your Sources, Secrets, and Suppliers// merriweathercouncilblog.com/2015/08/share-sources-secrets-and-suppliers/ 👋🏼 🦊Hint: you get to decide what to share and what not to.
In love with these felt colors for my workshop @handbrewedbeer on Saturday! Swipe for more info. Should be a great way to relax, meet some new people, learn some new crafty stuff, try a new beer or two, and go home with something(s) cute! All ages welcome and the venue is dog-friendly! I organized my felt and a few other materials this way for the @theoriginalscrapbox #createroomchallenge#roomforinspiration challenge by @sweetredpoppy and it's already sparking joy and inspiring me to create! #heytheremaker#craftbuzz#handmadeisbetter#makersgonnamake#makersmovement#chatsworth#sanfernandovalley#brewery#craftbeer#creativehappylife#crafter#bemakeful#abmcrafty#psimadethis#favehandmade#felt#cactus#crafttherainbow#craftsposure#craftspiration#thehandmadeparade#losangeles#workshop
Sometimes you’re just going about your day and then out of nowhere, everything changes. A sweet little boy left this earth sooner than anyone has any business doing. The thought of him gone knocked my world off it’s axis a bit. Grief, to me, is such a beautiful, holy thing. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t come out of the most vile of circumstances. Having worked in bereavement and pediatric hospice, I learned so much more from grieving families than I ever had the chance to give back to them. They taught me about how to move within loss, as it’s nothing you actually ever get through. They taught me the power of just feeling, and being ok with all those feelings. Still feeling the weight of the loss of a little boy who gave so many smiles, I’m working on smiling more this week. Because people are hurting for so many reasons. And it truly is impressive how much a small gesture such as a smile can ease some of the burdens we all carry. And I know I could really use a smile right about now.
I don't know a more fitting "summer gemstone" than aqua chalcedony 😍 Day # 2 QUESTION: How did you first get started in the industry? Laura: I have had an entrepreneurial spirit since I was pretty little. I ran a lemonade stand, sold handmade popsicles door to door, created clubs like the babysitters club, carwash club, etc. My first time with jewelry was with the classic friendship bracelets that were all the rage in the 90's. It's always been a secret(was too afraid to verbalize it) dream of mine since I was a teen reading Vogue. I just got into this 2 years ago when I went through significent loss and some trauma around it. Everything changed in my life and I started living my life differently. It got me out of the depression I had and literally changed my life. The thought went into my head when I was making Christmas presents for my family. I made some initial flowers but hated how long it took. That first got me thinking, "maybe I could sell these?" Down a rabbit hole and a ton of reaseach and time later, I dove in head first into the fashion world and decided on accessories. I knew basic jewelry skills, but for the most part I am self-taught. I've been creating and making since I was a little girl. My mother would take me and my brother to the craft store. She let us pick out what we wanted to make that day. I still to this day make things with her. I'm so glad I was exposed to the world of making at such a young age. Combine that with my entrepreneurial instict and it's almost a given I founded A Worthy Brand. 😉 Photo Credit: @brandfocusedphoto

We’ve had cane. We’ve had rattan. Now I’m bringing raffia into the mix. Love all these natural materials coming into interior trends. They’re so easy to work with and making a DIY mirror like this one costs about the price of a coffee! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Find out how to make it over on the blog today!
