I’ve been fortunate to grow up in the southwest. The landscape is so vastly different than the pacific northwest, but just as beautiful with its desert charm. Here’s to sending it with my buddy @chaseviken, memories like this from this year are worth looking back at time and time again.
Currently, there is no location variety in what I am posting, and I love it. I honestly keep thinking about how interesting of a landscape exists at Factory Butte.⠀ .⠀ I threw my drone up in the air to get a better view of the landscape itself and was amazed at how different it looks from above. The ridges looked more jagged and sharp from up there, and seemed more like the veins of a living organism than features of a heap of dirt and rock.⠀ .⠀ Now I am wondering what this place looks like in the snow. Should I plan a trip back just for that? I might have to snowshoe in because the road probably won't be passable by car, and I don't have a snowmobile.
The art of the travel selfie is a delicate one with a thin line to walk. You don't want to seem vain, but you want people to see the scale.⠀ .⠀ Coming clean on why I sometimes get in the shot. Sometimes you happen upon things that are much "bigger" than you had previously imagined. Case in point: Factory Butte. I was tiny in comparison to this immense feature. Based on pictures I had seen, I thought it would be an easy place to explore and enjoy. Boy was I wrong, and glad I was. In this shot here, I am still about a mile away from the the actual butte and you can see that it is crazy tall even from that distance.⠀ .⠀ I love seeing people in pictures like this because it really does give you a sense of the scale of the location you are looking at.
Spent a couple hours down at Factory Butte this past Saturday and was thoroughly impressed. I've seen pictures of it before and knew it was cool, but didn't understand the true scale of what I was seeing.⠀ .⠀ Now having seen it for myself I am really amazed at how large and pronounced the feature is. There is more coming from this incredible landscape for sure. So stay tuned!
There’s a value to places that make you acutely aware of the scale of this planet, and by default force you to reflect about the space you occupy on it...or at least, something like that makes places like this appealing to me. Utah, 10/14/18.
