Day 20 - No, a bagel isn't on my nutrition plan. That's why it is a treat. In fact the whole breakfast is a treat - of pumpkin spice proportions! Pumpkin spice bagel, pumpkin spice cream cheese, pumpkin spice coffee, pumpkin spice creamer... and of course the Falalala Llama mug. If my husband can eat pumpkin spice cereal this morning, then i have up my game! Too much? Nah, no such thing (although I do draw the line at pumpkin spice hotdogs cause that is just plain wrong). #fittemple#momof4#embracethecrazy#lifeinthemitten#fitafter40#obsessed#blessed#coach#joinme#pumpkinspice
Can we just take a minute and talk about the fight, strength and grit needed to advocate for our children? As a mama to three special needs kiddos, never in my life did I imagine that I would sit at tables with school officials and fight for services and placement for my children to help them be as successful as they can be. I've sat on both sides. I've been fortunate enough that we have had some AMAZING educators as I've advocated for the kids in the public school system, who have gone above and beyond to help the kids at times and I've sat on the side of when things turns hostile. I have watched a principal fail to help a child, my child and in turn cause additional emotional trauma and delay in services that would have helped him. Being an advocate in the world today can be a full time job. You have to become an expert on your child. When it comes to the public school systems, you have to learn the in's and outs of special education. You have to educate yourself with the step by step process, the time frames and the manner in which you have to request for help. To say its overwhelming, might just be a bit of an understatement. There are wonderful advocates out there but often needing formal help comes with a price, and if you're like our family and other #specialneeds families that I know, the money you do have is needed elsewhere to help your littles. For me, one of the biggest things that has helped me become a better advocate is to educate myself, create a system that I could easily maintain, review and make changes to and the biggest one, learn to ask for help. I mean, here we are fighting for help for our kids, yet so often we as mama beat ourselves when we need help. We make ourselves feel like we are somehow failing because we don't have it all figure out. (We need to stop that by the way. I'm currently working on a free printable to help organize all that overwhelming paperwork that comes with the territory of advocating for your children.
Welcome to Day 1 of our #yogiadventureschallenge We start this journey with Tree Pose or #vrksasana 🌲 Living in the foothills, we’re basically surrounded by trees. They give us shade, clean the air, and show us how to be grounded while still reaching for the sky. 🌲 Tree pose strengthens your legs and spine while opening your thighs and hips. When you practice this balancing pose you learn some lessons in how to get grounded, find your center, stay focused and steady your mind. 🌲 The mythology behind tree pose begins with the ancient king, Bhagiratha. The myth tells us he did Tree Pose for one thousand years to persuade the gods Brahma and Shiva to bring the Ganges River to Earth. (This was before the Ganges River existed on Earth!) Yogis have been known to hold Vriksasana for unbelievably long amounts of time and is one of the oldest poses to be recorded in ancient history. 🌲 In the book “Myths of the asanas” it tells how the yogis honored trees and all that they give and provide for us “....giving shade to the woodcutter who comes to cut it down with an axe.” 🌲 “The tree pose is a posture in which we imbue body, mind, and breath with the qualities of generosity, forbearance, strength, and balance.” 🌲 I think that pretty well encapsulates how I feel about #vrksasana 🙏🏼 #littledogpose agrees 😉 Hosts:⠀ @dowteri @aprilannemusic @thetravelingtrainers @julia_gulia3 @littlemissangie @e_la_la_la_laine @suburbangypsy @theholisticveganhippie @mamashiff Sponsors: 📔@theiamjournal 🧘🏻♀️@myoga_life 📿@sienna.and.sage 💜@the_awakenedqueen 💫@moonlitsubstance 🤸🏻♀️@omsoulshop The postures are: ✨ 11/17: Vrikasana Variations/Tree Pose ✨ 11/18: Malasana Variations/Garland Pose ✨ 11/19: Parivrtta Surya Yantrasana/Compass OR Utthita Hasta Padangustasana/Extended Hand to Big Toe Pose ✨ 11/20: Viparita Virabhadrasana/ Reverse Warrior ✨ 11/21: Skandasana/Side Lunge
A little crazy happening in our house... Chris was out in the snow storm at Costco on the first day of its grand opening, I called him as I had promised the girls some hot chocolate, it sort of looks like hot chocolate, ya think? #livinginthecrazy#embracethecrazy . . . . . #roadtriptomorrow. #weareeight#planningatitsfinest
Almost 3 weeks ago one of the yoga studios I was teaching at closed. I wasn’t especially surprised, there had been lots of problems, but I was a bit nervous seeing as I taught 5 classes a week there. 😥 Anyone who teaches yoga knows there’s not a ton of money in it unless you’re some big name or selling $90 yoga pants. 💰 My husband (and my biggest supporter) told me not to worry and that hadn’t I been saying that I barely had time to practice since I taught so many days and so many classes? 🤔 And he was right. While we have had to adjust even a little bit more, and some of the things I had hoped to do may have to wait, I’ve had so much more time to come back to my practice and come back to you what brought me to yoga in the first place. 🙏🏼 I’m grateful for the fact that I can just teach a handful of classes and that my guys support me. I’m grateful I can do what I love and I know it will all be just fine as long as I keep believing and moving forward. 🧘♀️ And a little plug for the first challenge I’ve hosted in quite a while; #yogiadventureschallenge starts tomorrow and I’ll be posting the first pose, with the story of the pose, tonight. 😁 Thanks for reading all this 😉
Not only is it #friday and we get a lot of great #newmusic, but it’s finally cool enough for me to break out the #flannel. 🎶🎶🍂🍂🍁🍁 Loving this weather already. Been asked a few times if this was “real” flannel, to which I proudly reply with “yes, yes it is.” #fall#flannelweather#stillwarmerthanohio I hope you’re happy. Embrace the Crazy. Psalm 118: 8-14
#throwbackthursday to when everyone loved Halloween and we didn’t hear Christmas music already. 💀💀💀 Also, an actual good photo of me that isn’t some kind of selfie or “set timer and run real fast to the spot and hope the picture looks ok” kind of photo. 🎃🎃🎃 I can’t believe it’s Thanksgiving next week... this month is going by so fast and it’s only a little over a month that I return to my hometown for the holidays. 2019 will be here before I know it. 🦃🦃🍗🍗🎄🎄 #tbt#halloween#thanksgiving#holidayseason I hope you’re happy. Embrace the Crazy. Psalm 118: 8-14
