Sooo many business make the mistake of developing their marketing messages without considering their entire audience. Who is your buyer? It’s not one person. Generally speaking, one business has at least 2-3 buyer types. And, within the types, several personas.  So, my tip for you today is to evaluate your message, listen to your audience and develop specific buyer personas. Then, make sure your messaging is about them. Not just you. Meet them where they are in the buyers journey. Understand not everyone is ready to “buy now”. Some of your followers are there to listen and learn. Educate them. Engage with them. They’re still at the beginning of the buyers journey. ~ROTATOR CUFF GET BUFF~ • • What exactly IS the RC? • It’s a group of 4 muscles that provide dynamic stability to the shoulder joint. • (Think of it as keeping your shoulder secure, in a good position.) • Supraspinatus. Infraspinatus. Teres minor. Subscapularis. • (Easy to remember as “SITS”) • Though you’re not going to be seeing these particular muscles poppin’ out of your shirt on arm day, they’re important to train, nonetheless! • Here’s the breakdown: • Supraspinatus – initiates shoulder abduction (elevating your arm) • Infraspinatus – provides shoulder external rotation (see picture 1 for what this looks like) • Teres minor – also provides shoulder external rotation • Subscapularis – this guy is your primary internal rotator of the shoulder (swipe to see my shoulders in an internally rotated position) • • In short, the rotator cuff helps lift and rotate your arm. • Throw in some exercises for the rotator cuff to your arm day. • There are a few things you achieve by doing this: 👉increased stability of your shoulder joint 👉decreased likelihood of impingement (especially if you focus on the inferior rotator cuff, which is all but the supraspinatus – another post on that later!) • • If you’re an overhead athlete, having stronger rotator cuff muscles will also protect your shoulder when throwing. • #rotatorcuff #shoulder #shoulderjoint #stability #themoreyouknow #educateyouraudience #muscles #strengthtraining #smarttraining #getstrong #gettingstronger #fitness
I DIDN’T WANT TO WORKOUT🙅🏻‍♀️ . You know those days where you just want to nap, stay indoors, and be unproductive or do the minimal physical activity required for the day? . I do🙋🏻‍♀️. That was me today. . After an eventful day yesterday and full morning today, my body was fatigued and the gym was the last place I wanted to go. . I dragged my feet getting ready and I’ll admit, I even complained about going. . I’m not perfect either 🤷🏻‍♀️ . But darn it I am SO glad I made myself go. . Got to the gym, turned on my most intense workout playlist, and sported the “don’t mess with me face” through the entire lift 😂. . Slowly throughout my workout, I became MORE energized and happier. . “IT’S NOT THAT HARD, JUST MAKE THE CHANGES”😤 • It REALLY grinds my gears when people discount the work others have done or are ABOUT to do. • Especially when it comes to taking control of your health and your body, it is a HECK of a lot of work. • RESPECT the work, dang it!! • Some people shed blood, sweat, and actual tears to get where they want to be. • YOU know how hard you’ve worked. And you deserve to feel PROUD of that hard work. • It isn’t a matter of “just” improving your diet, and “just” going to the gym a few times a week.🙄 • It WILL be hard. • There will be days that you’re tired, that you’re struggling. • Those are the days you have to prepare for. • But there will also be days where you’re feeling healthier and ENERGIZED, and amazing because EXERCISE is SO GOOD for the body!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 • No one is “on” 100% of the time, but we CAN have a MINDSET that adapts to be accepting of what we can’t change. • I’ve talked about that in previous posts - having a mindset for success, and making proactive strategies to get through the harder days and not lose steam. • Wherever you are in your fitness journey - BE PROUD, friend.☺️ • You lost 8 pounds? SWIPE for HIGH ENDURANCE WORKOUT • #saveforlater • (I burned nearly 500 calories with this one!) • 1 mile run • • Circuit 1: 100 abs on decline bench 100 squats in smith (glute max focus) 100 inverted rows 100 curtsy (side) lunges • Circuit 2: 60 goblet squats with KB 60 total “80-20 squats” with KB on stance side 3 minutes lateral quick step with heisman 30 Kb hip hinges 0.25 mile moderate to high speed run • • This workout is GREAT because it starts off getting your HR up with the 1 mile run. If you perform the first circuit in sets of 20s, you can move through them quickly enough to sustain the elevated HR and challenge your cardiovascular system as you go. If doing sets of 20, the weight you use in each of the exercises should be heavy enough that the last 5-6 reps are hard to finish in your set. • QUICK TIPS: Circuit 1:  For the squats in the smith machine, have your feet shoulder width and slightly out front from your body. Focus on the glute squeeze going up AND down in the hip extensor movement. You should “feel the burn” in both parts of the motion this way. • Circuit 2: “80-20” squats are with regard to distribution of your weight. For one rep, 80% of weight should be on your stance leg doing a squat. TRAINING AROUND A SPRAIN/STRAIN • (The following tips are for training around injuries that are musculoskeletal in nature.*) • Let’s be real - we aren’t perfect & sometimes mistakes happen. • Ever mis-stepped working out, or even walking around the town, etc -& you have to deal with the consequences? YEAH - it happens and it sucks. • BUT! There’s a light at the end of the tunnel. You can train around your injury - don’t be couch bound because you hurt your foot, wrist, etc. There are plenty of other exercises you can do that avoid painful motions or weight bearing. • WHY train around it? Well, if it isn’t properly healed &you’re putting too much stress on it over& over - the muscle/injury won’t have time to heal. • My personal experience with this: I strained 1 of my hip flexors last month (See comments for what/how I’ve adapted) • If it would’ve been my ankle that I hurt, my “adapted” training program would probably be more open chain exercises rather than focus on WB activities for the time being. • PAIN is there for a reason. We have to respect the pain&not push through it. If a motion is painful - don’t overdo it! • Using pain as your guide, you can still train the other areas & meet your goals!👍🏼 • That being said - make sure you’re taking all of the necessary precautions to take care of your injury& let it HEAL. Physical therapy isn’t a bad idea, either ;) • *DISCLAIMER: This post depends on the severity and nature of your injury. Chronic injuries/pain is also different. Please consult a physician if you are unsure if you’re able to train around your injury(ie neck or spine injury, trauma, etc.) This post is not with regard to how to treat the actual injury. I want to help YOU reach your goals while safely preventing the worsening of your injury! • Rehab of the injured area is an entirely different ballgame, requiring a complete evaluation. • #educateyouraudience  #fitnesseducation #bemorehealthy
PLAN FOR THE OBSTACLES I’ve been there, too - running into barriers, low energy days, or things that flat out didn’t seem like the universe wanted to work towards my goals with me. . How can you REFRAME what has held you back from meeting your goals in the past? . *If you know your weaknesses, you know how to defeat them. . YESTERDAY, I talked about some of the things that may be have held you back in the past (see my last post if you missed it!) . TODAY: if you know you’re susceptible to X,Y,Z holding you back - plan with a purpose. If you count on those things being there, you can incorporate strategies to overcome them. . PLAN AHEAD. Pick a program that works for YOU & your schedule, interests, and energy. . Have a backup plan so you don’t get thrown off if the day doesn’t go just right - have an alternative home workout that takes 20 minutes #justincase. Because #lifehappens and ONE step towards your goal is better than no step at all. . Plan to hold yourself ACCOUNTABLE - heck, have sticky notes in your car that inspire you to get to the gym on the way home if that’s what it takes. . Or call a friend and talk to them when you’re contemplating x,y,z that don’t align with your goals. . Think of your one “WHY”, &then think of 10 others. . This is called decisiona balance - & it helps weigh the pros& cons of behavior change. (The more pros there are, the more likely you are to do something.) . PLAN for those self-conscious days, and give yourself pep talks. . YOU who have gone through all of the hardships of YOUR life up to this point, are capable of carrying on ever forward & CRUSHING your goals. . “what if they’re looking at me? What if they’re judging me?” into👉🏼 “LET THEM WATCH ME WORK.” “Nobody’s judging me. We’re all working hard in here.” .  YOU, I am talking to you who are struggling! . I GET YOU, I’ve been there. . And I’ve structured a coaching program JUST. FOR. YOU --- accountability, motivation,
WHY have we FAILED in the past? • 1- Maybe it was picking a program that wasn’t sustainable; too much at once? Didn’t fit your schedule? Maybe it was either too advanced or too cookie cutter. • 2- Accountability; whether it’s holding yourself to a certain standard, or having a friend or coach hold you accountable to keep you on track. • I can’t tell you how many times people have come to me with the best intentions in the world, but if they aren’t holding themselves accountable they have had a hard time meeting goals in the past. • 3- Motivation; what’s your “why?” How STRONG is it? • Is it enough to roll you out of bed at 4:30 am, or keep you up after a long tiring day to train your body healthy? • Your motivation needs to have PURPOSE and GRIT, a “stick-to-it-ive-ness” that won’t leave you hanging high and dry. • 4- Self consciousness. Let’s be real here. •I’ve been in that place where i wasn’t proud of my body and started new programs in the gym, only to stray away and try to “hide” because I didn’t want people to see me working out. • I didn’t want people to see me struggle, or to see the way my body moved. • TO YOU WHO FEELS THAT? I GET YOU. • We can try home workouts to get you movin’ and groovin’, but one thing I’ll tell you is that once I stopped focusing on what I looked like doing my workouts, I realized nobody else was looking at me. • People are in there to make their own progress, and most of the time - if people know your story or your “why” - they’ll cheer you on, too. • LET ME REASSURE YOU: if any of these apply to you - it’s okay. A fitness journey is just that - a journey. • Think of it like a giant road trip.☺️ • It’s okay to stop and enjoy where you’re at, and heck, it’s okay to revisit where you’ve been in the past as long as you keep moving forward. • #missionambition #americanambitionfitness #caitvelafit #nutritionandexercise
HIP HINGE: SWIPE FOR DIAGRAM In my example of a stiff legged KB deadlift, the glutes & hamstrings are the primary muscles being engaged. The glute max is one of the strongest hip extensors. Hamstrings also contribute - they run along the posterior thigh & cross the hip joint. Think about where the muscle is located & where it pulls from (posterior side of your body). Imagine your hips are the fulcrum, your back is the lever. The muscles of the posterior side of the body are going to need to be engaged & activated to move the load of the trunk back into the upright position.
