At last! Edinburgh's Christmas is open again with its iconic big wheel and the most amazing mulled cider there really is something for everyone. How many Christmas markets have an actual castle as a backdrop? 😍 I could never leave this beautiful city ❤ @edinburghschristmas #johnniewalker#edxmas#keepwalking#brave#ad
Snow Gym Snow Problem ☃️🏃🏻♂️ - Keeping up your healthy habits over the holidays 🎅. - Here's the thing, Christmas is all about relaxing, winding down & a solid bit of recovery too 👌🏻. - But with most things, doing nothing ain't so good either 👀. - Here's my tip for Day 11 - try setting yourself a few non-negotiables to stay on track 👇🏻. - Here's a handful of mine for the next few weeks 📆. - 1) 10k steps/day 🚶🏻♂️ 2) 3 home workouts/week 🏋🏻♂️ 3) Maintenance Calories 🔢 - A common theme? No gym required & no excuses either 😉. - What's yours 👇🏻? - DM 👨🏻💻
Weak Minded or Week Minded? 🤔✅ - Simple maths & playing the long game over the Holidays 🎅🏻. - Let’s be honest, we’re all gonna overeat at least a few times over the next few weeks. We’re human after all 🍲. - See, overeating one day honestly isn’t always as big a disaster as we often make it out to be. The body’s an efficient machine & it takes a hella lot longer than 24 hours to pile on some weight (at least not water weight that is) 💦. - If you find yourself shooting way way over that initial intake, try spreading things out over the week 📆. - Having enjoyed a couple of group Xmas Dinners the past few evenings, I sure as hell won’t be hungry the next few days 😬. - Try reducing your cals over the rest of the week & things almost always even out pretty well 👇🏻. - Safety in numbers as they say 😉💯. - DM 👨🏻💻
All you see is us eating out all the time, brunching, lunching and tucking in to multiple course dinners but you don’t see what we eat 80% of the time ☝🏽It’s no secret WE LOVE FOOD but we also love training, taking care of our bodies and fuelling it with good stuff! Our no. 1 tip to staying on track, sticking to your goals and making progress whilst still being able to enjoy yourself every now and again is MEAL PREP 🙌🏼 Set aside a couple of hours at the end of the weekend or beginning of the week to do a food shop and prep some meals for the week ahead. Stick to lean protein, a good carb source, lots of veggies and don’t scrimp on flavour! Trust us you will save a fortune, find it so much easier to eat well and after a long day or on the go your future self will thank you 🙌🏼We’re interested to know if you guys would like to know some of our go-to midweek meal prep meals?!! #thefitishfoodies#mealprep#mealprepmonday
What a weekend it’s been A and I spent our time on her parents farm and we had a go at clay pigeon shooting (A beat me and won’t let me live it down) 🍂 Last week got away from us a bit but we had a go at hassle back potatoes for the first time. They were pretty good but I’m not sure id go to the hassle (back) again 🍴🥔 We served ours with a lentil Dahl, some silver chard and oven roasted onions. What did you all get up to at the weekend? - L
Cold Brew ☕️❄️ - Caffeine 101 for the coffee addict & fitness fanatic 🏃🏻♂️. - Day 9 already?! Apparently so. Here’s my entry for today & one I’m sure we all enjoy 👇🏻. - Here’s a few pointers to get the absolute most out of your caffeine induced rush over the holidays 🎄. - 1) We were on a break! 🎬 - It may be beneficial to take a few weeks to wind down your caffeine levels. Once you hit a certain amount, your brain gets well used to the dose & the levels just keep on rising. Try resetting as best you can, ready for the new year. - 2) Not so Sweet Dreams 🛏 – If you’re prone to a late afternoon brew, try making it a bit earlier. The half-life (time taken for 50% to leave the bloodstream) of caffeine is a whopping 5-6 hours. Meaning if you smash a double espresso at 6pm, you’ll still have a single equivalent come bedtime. - 3) Working Out your Pre-Workout ⏱ - Here’s a big one. If you’re looking to maximise those caffeine related effects & get the optimal buzz, try shooting for 45-60 minutes pre session. It takes around 30-75 minutes to reach its peak in the bloodstream by then folks 👊🏻. - Bean there done that? Yep 😉☕️ - DM 👨🏻💻
New #review @chophousesteak Seminal moment of parenting No. 345: that time we took our four year old son out for lunch and he determinedly ignored his kids’ burger in favour of tucking into my (on the perfect side of rare) steak. They grow up so fast. Well, that’s what happened last week when we ate at Chop House Market Street, tucked just behind Waverley Station in the former railway arches. We're in the midst of cellar excavations at our house and all its associated dusty fun, so a steak lunch date had been set for The Silver Fox, the Fox Cub and myself. The weekday £12 Hanger Steak & Fries lunchtime deal was the draw, truly an impressively good price. We headed up to the upper floor of this stunning double-height venue, and settled in for what was top class eats on a rainy Friday. It’s good to know they’re kid-friendly too. The Fox Cub’s eyeballs just about popped out on stalks when his apple juice was brought to the table served in a milk bottle with striped paper straw and cotton candy garnish. Kudos guys. He was also very enthusiastic about helping us tuck into the enticingly pungent garlic and herb marinated Gordal olives, and sourdough with herby butter. How was the steak? Well, as the name suggests, Chop House take their meat seriously, and the mantra is solidly about sourcing top quality meat, in-house butchery and expert dry aging. Steaks are open-flame charcoal grilled, and so, when our steak frites arrive at the table, that lean cut of hanger steak had a perfectly blackened char on the outside, and with perfect resting time had been sliced to deliver utterly tender, flavoursome mouthfuls. Paired with a tangy Bearnaise, and crisp straw fries, this was a belter of a lunch. Hesitance to share with my offspring was assuaged somewhat by the supporting act of side dishes including a blow-your-socks-off (and clear your sinuses whilst you’re at it) chilli-spiked kimchi slaw, crisp onion rings, and sweet buttered greens, the latter of which
This weekend we escaped the city for a relaxing weekend in sunny (if not a little chilly) St. Andrews 💛 We both love what we do but also know how important it is to take some time out every now and again to recharge and reset. Burn out is all too common in our line of work and we’re both guilty of overdoing it at times! A weekend filled with quality time together, great food from @thepeatinn and @theseafoodsta (reviews to follow!) and some good old fashioned sea air was exactly what we both needed ☺️Self care comes in so many different forms, sometimes slowing down and taking time to really enjoy the moment is all you need to set you up for the week ahead! #thefitishfoodies#selfcare#selfcaresunday
Minestrone alla genovese! It’s hard to think of anything more satisfying than a bowl of nourishing soup on a cold winter’s day and an authentic minestrone really hits the spot. . . . This soup was based around initially making a soffritto made by slow cooking onion, garlic, pancetta and herbs, then adding stock with carrots, tinned tomatoes, tomato paste, celery and potatoes left whole. This is then cooked for two hours to let the base develop. In the last 10-15 minutes, pasta, borlotti beans, cabbage, peas and corguette is added. To serve add a spoon of pesto to make the genovese. . . . . Ingredients . 1 large onion 2 cloves garlic 15g parsley 2 sage leaves 8 Basil leaves 100g pancetta 2 celery stalks 2 carrots 3 potatoes 3 litres chicken stock 1 teaspoon tomato paste 1 400g tin tomatoes 2 corguette thinly sliced 150g small pasta 2 tins borlotti beans 1/4 white cabbage shredded 8 oz peas . . . Pesto . 2 cloves garlic 1 cup basil leaves 2 tablespoons pine nuts 2 tablespoons Parmesan Season with salt Olive oil Squeeze of lemon . . #minestrone#italianfood#genovese#soup#pesto#homecooked#thecookfeed
Unfilter[ed] is back with lots of great wines to try over the festive period, featuring the wild and wonderful 'Thirst' Cinsault by @radford_dale, among others. •Minipancakes Edinburgh Christmas• Does anyone else see December as a challenge to try as many Christmas market foods as possible? @hilarycaneat 😏 I was so excited to try these mini pancakes at @edinburghschristmas! I would normally go for a traditional crepe or waffle for my go-to sweet treat, but this time we went for these cute pancakes, and I don’t regret it one bit! 🥞 These were little fluffy pillows of deliciousness, smothered in sauce and dusted with icing sugar. We got a Nutella and a biscoff to share, being the two kings of toppings (in my opinion) 👑 but they also offered toffee, white chocolate, cinnamon, maple syrup and lots more 😋 If your having a wander round Edinburgh markets, would definitely recommend a pit stop here! #edinburghfoodies#edinburghfood#edineats#edinburghbloggers#foodbloggers#scottishbloggers#thisisedinburgh#edinfoodclub#edinburghcafe#edinburghchristmas#christmasmarkets#edinburghchristmasmarkets#pancakes#minipancakes#dutchpancakes#nutella#biscoff#lotusbiscoff#foodporn#sweetreats#december#treatyourself#makedecembersparkle#12daysofchristmas#christmastime#nutellapancakes#biscoffporn#christmastreats#festivalvillage#poffertjes
Ever-Greens 🌲🥗 - Why Brussel sprouts aren't just for Xmas 🎅. - I'm a huge believer in less is more, simpler is better when it comes to nutrition 👌🏻. - Here's a tip we can all benefit from. Try ADDING foods instead of restricting certain types 👍🏻. - Veggies & side salads with every meal is an ideal starting point 👊🏻. - You see, restricting makes us want more, a hella lot more. The magic is when you fill yourself up with good quality foods with way less room for treats as well 👀. - DM 👨🏻💻
1000 Miles 🏃🏻♂️❄️ - Why No Pain No Gain actually isn't great & staying fit over Xmas 🎅. - Day 7 already & it's flown by somehow 👀. - Here's one of the biggest tips I'll always share with clients & it's so, so important 👊🏻. - Find a cardio exercise you ENJOY. Sure, going for runs is great & all, but honestly if you hate it, you'll never be consistent 👎🏻. - I'd rather find me some touch rugby, 5-a-side footy or even a cheeky bootcamp instead ⚽. - One I'll never forget to mention 👌🏻. - DM 👨🏻💻
🌟 #repost @ellinburgh_ 🌟 ・・・ Last night we went to @theapartmentrestaurant for dinner, and it was really nice! The place is beautiful, modern but cosy with cool paintings and some fairy lights (that always help to create the atmosphere). The food was great as well, all of us were happy with what we ordered from the starter to the dessert. I am just sorry that I chose to go for the steak because all the other dishes looked amazing as well (but I was in a steak mood, and anyway it was perfectly cooked and tasted delicious).
We’ve been social butterflies this week and had the lovely @tegan.hartley over for dinner on Monday 🥢 A made her signature veggie poke bowls packed with sushi rice and veggie goodness. We had carrot, pepper, cucumber, seaweed, pickled ginger, mushrooms in plum sauce and some sweet chilli mayo 🌱 I’m working on convincing A to make these for our lunches every day next week... - L
Baby It’s Cold Outside ❄️🏂 - Day 6 fam & I’m sure you’ve also noticed the rather unenjoyable temperature plummets of late 🥶. - But forget that, here’s my tip for today – do more walking. Genuinely, it’ll transform your life. Set yourself a daily steps target (10K is a solid start) & strut your stuff people 👊🏻. - Ups your daily intake, clears your head & gets you moving so much more 👇🏻. - Walking the talk as they say 😉🏃🏻♂️. - DM 👨🏻💻
