Dumplings? Don’t mind if I do. - I made these incredible dumplings for my dad’s birthday dinner this year (we had some for lunch on my mom’s birthday too because they’re just so darn good and their birthday are only days apart). - I want to note that while you’ll rarely see me use pork in my recipes, I went the more traditional route for this one and used ground pork. Sometimes you gotta pay proper homage and use what they’ve been using for centuries (at least that’s how I feel). You could totally sub for shrimp like the won tons in my highlights, or even ground turkey perhaps. I tried tofu when I was experimenting with won tons and they completely fell apart after steaming so I didn’t go there this time around. - You can find the recipe for the filling on @nom_life highlights (I used every ingredient this time) and paired it with white rice and an amazing spicy sesame sauce. I topped everything off with sesame seeds, fresh cilantro and green onions. YUM!
You can't beat the price at i Dumpling in #redwoodcity, where the food is both interesting and good. The tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurant serves genuine, homemade northern Chinese dumplings that are great and a small selection of other dishes that are good to above average. The chicken dumplings with corn were a trifle unusual and amazingly good, with a subtle back-of-the-throat burn. The entrees were a pleasure to consume, such as the mapo tofu, soft cubes of tofu bathed in a spicy red sauce with a scattering of green onions.
