“Well, you change as you get older, especially at this time in your life. You become more yourself, hopefully. And sometimes that changes the dynamic, even with people you love. So it's not that you were wrong. You were right for that time. But you grow up and you grow out of relationships. Even the ones you thought, at one point, might be forever.” - Emery Lord, The Names They Gave Us . . . . . . . Gifted | That’s a wrap on May and it’s time to wrap up my reading for the month too! In May I read 10 books which is wild because I feel like I haven’t read very much the past couple of weeks. Here are the books I read in May: 📚 Beartown by Fredrik Backman 📚 One Punch Man: Volume 1 by Yusuke Murata 📚 The Wren Hunt by Mary Watson (copy sent by @bloomsburypublishing) 📚 Chew: Volumes one and two by John Layman and Rob Guillory 📚 All About Feelings by Felicity Brooks and Frankie Allen (copy sent by Usborne) 📚 Becoming by Michelle Obama 📚 The Heavens by Sandra Newman (copy sent by Granta) 📚 Everything Under by Daisy Johnson 📚 The Wickerlight by Mary Watson (copy sent by Bloomsbury) Ratings and reviews to come! - I’m determined to give every book I read this year a proper review so every day in May I posted a review of each book I’ve read since the start of 2019. I managed to get up to part way through March so I’ll continue in June but maybe every other day because June is going to be a busy month! How did your reading go in May?
"Dreams save us. Dreams lift us up and transform us." - - □How many books did you read in May?□ I read 27! I'm going to split this into two parts because it won't all fit here. 1:The Serpent King-reread for when I met the author! 2:The Great Alone-a bit disappointing. 3:Ghosts-I take issue with some of the things in this, but overall it was cute. 4:Night-heartbreaking. 5:The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks-also heartbreaking. 6,7,8,9:The Selection series-okay but doesn't America Singer sound like an X-Men character who's power is to sing the US national anthem but very terribly so peoples eardrums burst(this is code for I have nothing positive to say about these books.) 10:Ms Marvel, vol.3-continuing to be one of my new favorite heroes. 11:Bird Box-reread because I wanted to forget the movie. 12:Welcome to Night Vale-I would like to thank the librarians for sparing my life and allowing me to read this. So many great things(like Carlos) with everything I love about the podcast(like Carlos.) 13:The Seven(and a half) Deaths of Evelyn Hugo-my library had multiple copies of this all with different titles...I don't know whether this is wrong or not but let's go with it. Overall the twists reminded me of several tv shows I've seen so I wasn't too impressed. 14:NOS4A2-hey I'm traumatized! - - #bookreadhappyhour:#wrapup#endgamebaemay:wrapup #athousandmayreads#pintasticfriday:dynamic duo #atotallybooknookmaysingalong#dreambunnybookishmay19 - - ☆#bookstagram #bookish#popfunko#thesupermanhandbook#batman#booksbooksbooks#reader#books#readreadread#bookobsessed#read
5/31/19. Confession: I’m usually hesitant when it comes to reading books recommended by celebrities. It’s not that I don’t think the books will be good. It’s just the cynic in me who starts wondering if the hype is just a publicity stunt. When @randomhouse offered me a free copy of SOMETHING IN THE WATER, I thought Why not? Let’s see if @reesesbookclubxhellosunshine ’s endorsement was deserved. You know what? It really is! . Synopsis: “Erin is a documentary filmmaker on the brink of a professional breakthrough, Mark a handsome investment banker with big plans. Passionately in love, they embark on a dream honeymoon to the tropical island of Bora Bora, where they enjoy the sun, the sand, and each other. Then, when scuba diving in the crystal blue sea, they find something in the water…” . The book is marketed as a psychological thriller, and there definitely are elements of that. But author Catherine Steadman @catsteadman elevates it above the standard thriller with writing that really demonstrates how much research she must have done to have events come across as believable. . My favorite aspect of the book, however, wasn’t the “thriller” part. In fact, most of that was entirely predictable. (Hey, that’s going to happen when you read a lot of crime fiction.) No, what I loved most about this book was how Steadman developed Erin’s character. Erin isn’t a completely likeable character, but “watching” her in action was so believable I could swear I was there with her. . There are some plot points that still don’t make sense to me. Mainly, I’m still not sure what happened in the lives of the characters to lead up to the “twist.” But I still enjoyed this book very, very much. . Verdict: If you’re a hardcore fan of heart-pumping psychological thrillers, this one might disappoint. If you prefer a slightly slower pace and a thriller that spends more time with its main character, this one is perfect for you. . P.S. I read this one
I finished 11 books this month, and I had great luck with most of my reads, how did you do? 📚 This month I read: 📖Spectacle by Jodie Lynn Zdrok ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🎧Endsinger by Jay Kristoff 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 📖The Girl the Sea Gave Back by Adrienne Young ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 📖Kingsband by Claire Legrand 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 📱DEV1AT3 by Jay Kristoff 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 📖The Kingdom by Jess Rothenberg 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 🎧Wicked Saints by Emily A Duncan⭐⭐⭐ 📱Crown of Coral and Pearl by Mara Rutherford 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 📖Teeth in the Mist by Dawn Kurtagich ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🎧Legendary by Stephanie Garber ⭐⭐⭐💫 📱Trick by Natalia Jaster ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 📖Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 📚 What I found most surprising this month was that 6 of my 11 reads were 5 star reads. And surprisingly Jay Kristoff's books were not the books that I cannot stop thinking about from this list. I just cannot stop thinking about Crown of Coral and Pearl by Mara Rutherford, Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto, and The Kingdom by Jess Rothenberg. 📚 I don't know if I've just had too many antihistamines this month or what, but I've actually had dreams about all 3 of those books!!!! 📚 #fearyournovelmay19#bookqueensmay19#dreambunnybookishmay19#storiesbdaymay19
May round up . I didn’t read much this month but what I did read was really good. . This Is Going To Hurt by Adam Kay - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is by far the best book that I’ve read in ages. It’s an inside look at life in the NHS and is both hilarious and horrifying. . The Lido by Libby Page - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A delightful and easy read that had me wishing I was part of the community it so beautifully talks about. . The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was everything I hoped it would be and more. Stories like this have a habit of being predictable but there were some genuine surprises which was refreshing. . What was the best thing you read this month?
"I've never been angry to have been born a woman. There have been times I’ve been angry at how the world treats us, but I see being a woman as a challenge I must fight. Like being born under a stormy sky. Some people are lucky enough to be born on a bright summer’s day. Maybe we were born under clouds. No wind. No rain. Just a mountain of clouds we must climb each morning so that we may see the sun.” - - □How many books did you get this month?□ I got the gorgeous collectors edition of Fangirl from @hdbblog. Thanks again, Jessica! I was planning on posting it(as one does with the thing they're talking about) but I didn't get a picture ready in time. So here's an old picture from September completely unrelated to anything I've said in this caption! - - #bookreadhappyhour:plot driven books #endgamebaemay#dreambunnybookishmay19#atotallybooknookmaysingalong - - ☆#bookstagram #bookish#book#read#flameinthemist#reneeahdieh#bookworm#booksbooksbooks#reader#bookobsessed#booklover

Y’all, I am hopelessly deficient at book spirals. I tried to do something fancy with these books, but it was all lopsided and unstable. Guess I’ll just stick to flatlays. These are some of my favorite books that I’ve read or reread this year. See any of your favorites in there? Any favorites you think I would like? . Anyway, we cleaned house yesterday, and then we deep cleaned the refrigerator. So, so satisfying. I finished listening to Cinder yesterday, and I forgot how abruptly that one ends. So while I’m waiting for Scarlet to become available, I’m listening to Linger, the second book in the Wolves of Mercy Falls series. I’m still chipping away at Grave Mercy as well. . #storiesbdaymay19 - faves of the year #readgushmay19 - #towertuesday of your favorite books #dreambunnybookishmay19 - stack and spirals . #bookstack#bookspines#bookish#booklover#favoritebooks#readersofinstagram#readerlife#alwaysreading#yalit#bibliophile
It’s been a while since I read this book, but my GOODNESS was it a thrill! If you’re not already enticed, here’s the description: Sixteen-year-old Haley Tremaine had it all: top-notch school, fantastic family, and a bright future, but all of that changed when an accident tore her family apart. Now, an alcoholic father, a bitter younger sister, and a cold headstone bearing her mother’s name are all she has left. “Chris Charming has it all: a powerful CEO for a father, a prestigious school, and a fortune at his fingertips, but none of that matters when he lands a reputation as a troublemaker. Struggling to follow in his father’s footsteps, he reaches out to the one person he believes truly sees him, the one person he wants: Haley. Little do they know someone’s determined to bring the two together, even if it means murder.” 😬😬😬😬😬😬 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #dreambunnybookishmay19 In Memory Of....
