‘Roudaki Hall’, now known as Vahdat Hall, was constructed within a span of ten years in the Pahlavi era and opened in 1967. The architect, Eugene Aftandilian, took inspiration from the ‘Vienna State Opera’ in Austria, home of the best opera performances in the world. If you have been to Milan, Italy and seen the gorgeous and famous ‘La Scala’ made during the period when that region was under Austrian ruling, you may find there are commonalities amongst the three except the Tehran Performance Hall is modern. During the 1950s through 1970s this stage was the most famous performing scene amongst international performers of all kind in West Asia. Ever since the beginning it was home to Tehran Symphony Orchestra, Tehran Opera Orchestra, Tehran National Ballet Company, with various other artists and dancers presenting on that stage. Stages are moving and revolving. The main stage has three podiums (levels). The main stage’s curtain is decorated with a modern imitation of miniature paintings depicting the Phoenix, Persian’s folkloric bird that rises from the ashes living eternally. The main hall seats 1200 and equipped with two tiers of balconies, boxes and a central royal box. It is accessed through marbled halls lit by modern crystal chandeliers, adorned with modern tile mural and vitray inspired by depictions of ancient and folklore stories and traditional designs. Most people still called the hall by its previous name because Rudaki is considered the father of the classical Persian literature. A poet of the 9th century royal court, he also was a musician, declaimer/reciter and copyist. This is for sure a far more suitable name than Vahdat (meaning united) for a place of multitude of art creations! #rudakihall#performance#piano#music#art#artist#musician#architect#tehran#architecture#operahouse#culture#viennastateopera#lascalamilan#mural#vitray#details#design#designer#decorator#decor#love
Quite the family... And it’s rare that someone’s work looks nothing like what came before it, and nothing like anything that came after, but somehow Carlo’s furniture designs are just that; truly unique and weirdly awesome. #carlobugatti#digifabshopbookoftheweek
