One of my favorite embodiment interventions? Core on the block pose. This pose brings your sense of center back into your own body. It reestablishes a physical boundary between the body and external emotions & experiences—so helpful for us creatives and empaths. It grounds the nervous system & moves us back into the rest, digest, reflect processes in mind, body, spirit. It strengthens emotional immunity, and improves digestion—emotionally, physically, mentally. I can always hear my embodied writing voice with more clarity, compassion, and curiosity after this pose. #embodiedflow#creativewellness#write#poetry#creativeprocess#creativepractice#alchemy#yoga
For the past few months, I’ve been trying to decide what to do for my daily project for 2019. I have absolutely loved working in the book my friend @beacon_bonfire made for me and I considered begging her to make me another one and offer to clean her house for a year in return, but then I thought of how I enjoyed the change of working in a new book this year. And then, when I was purging my art materials for the supply swap for the Visual Journal Collective in November, I took inventory of all my blank and partially used books. It’s a little ridiculous how many I have that have been on my shelves for years waiting for me to finally crack open the cover and work in them. I have books from my favorite artists and bookbinders such as @sarahearn and @ragandbonebindery . I have books I’ve made. I have books I’ve collected from estate sales because the titles were so perfect and just beckoning me to use them as a journal (The Melting of Molly…how have I not used that yet??). I pulled out a pile of my favorites and seeing the stack helped me make my decision – I’m working through that pile of books for my daily project in 2019. So much of my creative practice has been based on using what I have and finding inspiration from what’s around me so I’m using that as the foundation of my project next year. And I’m going to change up my format a bit and also use a page to track dates and the stories I post so that I don’t lose them. Now I just need to decide which book to use first! Although, Heather, I still feel like I should offer to clean your house for a year as a thank you for the gift of this year’s book. It has changed my life. You have changed my life. I can never thank you enough for that. . . . #thefoundartwalk#mkranthony2018daily#mkranthony2019daily#babysparksbindery#artjournal#artjournaleveryday#visualjournal#dailyart#creativehabit#makearteveryday#makesomethingeveryday#handmadebook#handmadejournal#ragandbonebindery#reuse
I probably could have written the same answer to this prompt last year, but the meaning would have been totally different. I love that about journaling - a way of charting the spiral path of growth. http://bit.ly/YearOfDreams
F I N A L - D E S I G N E R - I N T E R V I E W It's month ten and my final designer interview of #ProjectWabiSabi. I saved a goodie until last too, interviewing my former @lborouniversity technician, now lecturer @soj_bcu and studio jeweller @JO_POND. Jo has an exquisite eye for curation and composition of objects and has given a beautiful insight into the world of creativity in the interview, which really resonated with me especially after my explorations this year: "Being creative is not a given and striving for happiness in life is food for creativity. Giving space to being creative is important to my happiness, whether that space is fruitful or only thoughtful." Read Jo's interview now, link in profile.

“The Emotional Labor of Spiritual Creatures,” (process shots) watercolor and marker on cardboard, tonight’s small painting. Brushes for scale. ||| I’m reminding myself these days that every mark or choice to re/present is also a choice to re/perceive and hack and reprogram, and a pebble in a ripple effect of shift. I have so many small pieces like this, so many notebooks full of unpublished work, so many negatives, etc etc etc — and I do want to share it with you (thank you internet) but so much of this work is path, and the path as goal. I hope by sharing my path you also choose to make and shift and share, more pebbles in the well, more drops on the stone. Grateful for the luxury of short pause to make this, for these cheap and perfectly fine paint and brushes, for light in the winter night, for a warm home, for do in order to see in order to do. Do-see-do. #dancewithme#learning#beginnersmind#painting#watercolor#art#creativepractice#inchbyinchrowbyrow#thepathisthegoal#smallworks#color#pattern#artistsoninstagram

What a great story from @rebelofpresence It's great, read the whole thing! 🎉 "Chronicling my weekend road trip. Watercolor, sharpie, collage. I drove from Omaha on Friday in 56° weather. On the return trip, what started out as light snow become white out conditions and very icy with brutal cold and 50+ moh winds.in one 12-mile stretch, I was diverted off the available routes home. While the trip had many odd many moments, the weirdest was pulling into a rest area after 9+ hours of driving and because I couldn't make it to a hotel, I bunked down for a couple hours in the handicapped stall. I keep a road kit in the car with a pillow, blanket, candles, non-perishable food etc. So I figured the rest area had electricity so I could charge my dying phone, was warm, I had access to food, water, and bathroom facilities. Under the circumstances, it was as safe as I could ask for. So I put a sign on the stall that said I would be happy to vacate the stall if someone needed access to the handicapped stall. I was able to grab a couple hours of ZZZZZs and headed out for the next leg where I gave up the ghost and got (literally) the last room at the inn."
We finally got our tree up and I'm putting on a few of these mini abstract paintings this year! These little lovelies were painted with some acrylic paints and a little sparkle. Stewart has a new podcast episode available today. Listen on our website (link in profile), subscribe on iTunes, or check it out on SoundCloud. 💜 . "In the very act of witnessing there is an awakening. The ability to witness means that there is something beyond shame, there is something that is looking at the shame and therefore is not the shame. The more we are able to be with the intensity and to sit in the fire of shame, the more we are able to experience that which is not defined by form, that which is not defined by anything—that we are neither good nor bad because of what is in front of us, whatever the object is." . #thepaintingexperience#stewartcubley#lifepaintpassion#creativepractice#creativeprocess#shameattack#paintitout#youarenotyourpainting#trustyourprocess
This week on the podcast is a 2 part interview with @veledavesta! Lara and I have a conversation about death transitions, living with chronic illness, the power of myth (and finding your myth), runework , finding your spiritual path, the importance of your creative practice and how it comes first, how ritual creates community, and the meaning of the word Weird. Whew! This is why it became two episodes! I hope you give them a listen! Links in bio. Also, what do you think of the longer format? I've had some interviews this season that went over my usual 1 hour time frame. I love getting to spend longer with my guests, going deeper into the conversation. Do you like the longer interviews? Would you be interested in more? Or a mix of both hour-long and extended interviews? I'm diving in to what I want to keep, change, or let go of in the next few months (for the podcast and otherwise) and I'm interested to see what you think. Leave a comment or DM me if you'd like. PS.- I love the juxtaposition of the title of this week's episodes and the picture of Lara. As well as the transition of light and dark in the picture itself. Because it's not either/or it's both/and.
Another quick timelapse animation experiment done in @procreate. Cheesy I suppose, but my heart is so full this evening that a beating heart is the first thing that came to mind. And I need to work with simple concepts to figure this technique out. 😁[big grin emoji] . This is number 614 in my commitment to make and share daily.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Ruth Asawa - her dancer figures (as well as @kaylanbuteyn’s mama figures) and the fact that she made all of her artwork while raising SIX kids. Julie Cameron says “there is room for art in any life you have” and I am continually challenged by that. Having a child and a full time job makes it harder for my inner artist to express herself, yes, but it’s not an excuse, it’s the reason. 💙 ✨What’s your why? ✨ #wip
