Core warmups/beginner core • • • First of all, your core and abs are NOT the same thing. Google it and you can read the difference. • • • Research has shown that the best exercises for abs don’t focus exclusively on the abdominal muscles but instead work the entire core.Many people make the mistake of only focusing on their abdominal muscles in the hope of achieving six pack abs. Unfortunately, by merely performing hundreds of crunches and sit-ups, you are excluding other more efficient exercises which better help to tone and build up the abdominal area. • • • What I see more often than not is people only do crunches & sit-ups (this includes: bicycle crunches, v-ups, and leg lifts/leg raises and the million and one other crunch variations) and don’t do enough to stimulate the inner core. That’s the equivalent of taking training wheels off a bike before you know how to ride. And it’s detrimental especially for a beginner to start with sit-ups/crunches and ignore these basic exercises. • • • Here are 3 of my favorite (inner) core activating exercises for strength and stability. • • 🌟Single leg lowers: keep foot flexed. Focus on a 5 second descend. Muscles worked: anterior hip flexors, multifidus, rectus abdominis, internal/external obliques 🌟Lying Side leg raises: keep foot flexed. Focus on a 5 second descend. Muscles worked: anterior hip flexors, glute medius, TFL, internal/external obliques, rectus abdominis 🌟Deadbugs: alternating arm and leg (think bird dog on your back) keep foot flexed and try to take your foot and arm to almost an inch above the ground. If you are a beginner take it as low as you can control. Always keep that lower back in contact with the mat. Take these as slow as possible. Muscles worked: rectus abdominis, transverse abdominis & obliques. • • • Bookmark and save. Dumbbell only workout! . I go the gym on my lunch everyday for an hour. Most of the time they have group classes going on the turf. Which then also makes the rest of the gym busy. One of my go to workouts is to find a spot, one piece of equipment & get to work. Usually dumbbells but can also grab a bar bell, medicine ball, find a bench or even the TRX machine! . I am all about straight to the point, effective workouts that don’t make you be in the gym for hours on end. Which NO you don’t need to be in there for hours to get fit or get a great workout in! Go in with a plan, show up & get to work! . I had to force myself to get to the gym today! The snowy rainy weather has made it very hard to stay motivated. Don’t want to change my cloths & leave work on my lunch. But was able to shut the brain off and get there!! Thankful I pushed myself to get there today because man was it a good one! #endorphins . I grabbed a set of 15lbs dumbbells & just started moving! Made sure to keep my rest periods small to keep that heart rate up & keep the sweat flowin! . Like ❤️ & save for next time! Tag a friend who is normally short on time or like on stop shop type of workouts!! . 1️⃣Squats- 10 reps drop weight right into 👇🏼 2️⃣Jumping squats . 1️⃣Reverse lunges-10 each leg drop weight 👇🏼 2️⃣20 alternating jumping lunges . 1️⃣Side lunges 10 each leg right into 2️⃣Side lung pushes back & forth . 1️⃣Single arm clean to press . 1️⃣Tricep push into row-(knees if needed) 2️⃣Right into mountain climbers 3️⃣Plank hold w/ side pull w/ weight . 1️⃣Narrow row into wide row . 1️⃣Seated shoulder press-CORE TIGHT 2️⃣Tucks in & out- keep back on floor 3️⃣Hold weight up-single leg tuck ins 4️⃣Hold weight up-scissor kicks 5️⃣Sit up- don’t swing use your core to bring you up!! . Made sure I did 3 sets of everything 10-15 rep range! Hope you guys enjoy this one!

The Wave Weight  A Workout tool that challenges core strength and stability. • • @fytgym_losalamitos • • 1) Over and under side steps 🔑 keep your core engaged at all times , maintain an upright sturdy posture. Keep your hips facing forward.  2) Isometric hold seated side steps *challenge this position by adjusting the height at which you hold the weight. 🔑 hold it above your shoulders.  3) Isometric split squat hold with Bosu. 🔑 keep everything engaged! BUILD A ROCK SOLID CORE . There are so many ways to work your core. You really are only limited by your imagination. But...it needs to challenge you. If it isn't challenging, it isn't going to create adaptation. 📈 . So often, people do the same core exercises for the same sets and reps and resistance with no progression. This week has been tough for me. I’ve had a  migraine for 3 days, but I’m finally migraine free today!! 🙌🏽 today was day 4 of our new program and I’m loving every second of it!  20 mins of high intensity, plyometric, strength training! It’s tough, it pushes you to your breaking point mentally and physically, and then all of a sudden the 20 minutes are up!  Most of this week the only time I felt good was right after I finished my workout. I’m so thankful that my accountability group kept pushing me through this tough week! Hamstring activation is often poor in patients dealing with low back pain due to lower crossed syndrome. This is a Hamstring Bridge. It is performed just like a regular bridge except you start with your feet further away from your butt. It helps to pull the heels into the ground and towards you to pre activate the hamstrings. This exercise isolates the hamstrings and can be INTENSE starting off. Hit some heavier push-pull upper body work today. I try to incorporate different stances and positions for all of my upper body lifts within an individual session; Split stance, bilateral stance, half-kneeling, kneeling- all create different stability demands for a given exercise. DAY 5 of Restore Your Core™ 7 days of insights and Body Love challenge #ryc  Once you have found your reflexive core and can breath to actively support yourself on your hands and knees you can begin to challenge your core by adding more work to your center.  In this video I first practiced my “candles” breath and then added a foot slide making sure that my core was engaging and my pelvis remained stable. Once I got that I did it with both feet bringing myself into a full plank.  If you are progressing and you feel any bulging, or bracing, or holding of your breath, or your hips dipping down stop.  Then try again and progress when you get it. Want to get stronger? You can look online at all these out of the box workouts and try to be just like them.  Yes, it’s great to have individuals you look up to or want to emulate. However, a lot of these athletes have trained for years to learn the techniques. For me I’m more old fashioned, I find that foundational movements and workouts are more beneficial to getting stronger.  Dips are forever one of my favorites and really help build that balance and strength that can translate to so many other things.  So my message: before trying out these crazy exercises...make sure to focus on the basics and get that form down.
