28 DAYS LEFT UNTIL THANKSGIVING PLANK CHALLENGE!!! Headed out to tailgate (GO TOPS!) and had to get my planks in before I left.  Several people have said they would like to join in on the fun but do not have the upper body or core strength to hold themselves up for so long.  These pictures show modifications to drop to if you can’t hold it or do the entire plank this way.  Doing the plank any way is better than not doing it at all.  You can build on what you can do as your core gets stronger.  Have fun with these 3 minutes of your day!  A strong core helps with tons of movements and actions we do in our everyday living. Here's another great variation. Now we have a single arm plank on the foam roller with a crossbody sled pull... very tough.  Here is another variation for those who are serious about taking their planks in conjunction with sled training to the next level, which includes numerous benefits. Some of those benefits are  handle shear loads (from any activity) reducing injury of the spine, showing a wonderful correlation to spinal endurance and being able to gain control of the lumbo-pelvic-hip region when needed.  To add to the above, this lateral plank with a crossbody sled pull. This variation like the other exposes all types of red flags in your body once you begin the exercise, which is accomplished by stabilizing or trying to stabilize one side of the body while pulling. This unique pull assess the anti-rotation,  anti-lateral flexion component this exercise wants to put you in.  Here's why it's a must try.  1.  By placing the forearm on the foam roller, there is no support,  you must balance and resist the  oscillations of the foam roller by pressing down firmly (core strength, core balance,  core endurance) to prevent you from falling or giving in to the movements of opposing forces of the foam roller when the lateral components of the pull come into play.  2. Most will not breathe, fire the glutes, or engage their core, nor dig their toes in equaling using the lumbar region to accomplish the movement.  3.
