☄FOREARM BAND BLOCKED WRIST CARS☄  Once we are able to perform are CARs decent using only concious blocking (think just that mind body connection, these are Level 1 CARs) it's time to work on cleaning them up and working on the weak points.  That's were we go up to Level 2 CARs and add in some type of block that physically limits the compensating body part that keeps trying to help out.  With wrist CARs typically it's the elbow/forearm wants to turn over and help your wrists out.  If your having trouble disassociating your wrist from your forearms/elbows during your wrist CARs give this version a try.  Strap a Theraband (or any light band) around your forearms. Keeping your elbows glued to your ribs, externally rotate your shoulders a bit  to put tension on the band.  Keeping that tension, perform your wrist CARs. By keeping that tension it will make it much harder for your forearms to turn over.  I normally do this drill squeezing a yoga block but I found this much easier to keep the needed tension to block the compensation.  By no means is this easy. I often use weekends for training and recovery. Generally, Saturdays are dedicated to teaching and training and Sunday is for reading and projects or chores around the house. (Unless I get in for open mat in the morning, and then the remainder of the day is for good food and music and books). . This last Sunday was spent on PJs with a couple of books. . And Monday, my body felt incredibly tight and kinda achey. My hamstrings and back would hardly move. Squatting and folding forward took ages to feel smooth. . . . So, what? I felt tight because I hadn't been moving. I had been curled up on the couch so my hip flexors and back felt stuck in that position.  And though stretching is useful, it isn't enough. My hamstrings and adductors wouldn't allow me to move until their complimentary muscles were supporting the joints. . . That's what mobility work IS.  It might include foam rolling. And stretching. Knee ACL Rehab —— 🔻Todays FRA (Functional Range Assessment) with @jannikr_27 was really interesting and good to share here. —— 🔻Jannik had an ACL rupture in his left knee and has gone through surgery at the beginning of april. So after nearly 4 months of ,,recovery“ with normal physiotherapy and light exercises and still not really any improvements, we just went though a full FRA to finally get him back on field and stronger in his joints stronger then ever. —— 🔻Here you can see his injured knee doing knee CARs for the first time. Control and movement of tibia rotation is completely lost here. Never too old to learn new things and move your body. My friend and client Danny is performing his first spine/thoracic CARs(controlled articular rotations), AKA joint circles. Danny has limited balance, so we found what works for him in this seated position. His thoracic CAR is not perfect (too much head/cervical movement)but we are on our way to reintroducing rotation of the spine. Even though linear (spinal flexion and extension) movements are priority for the health of the spine, we are introducing new inputs. -  As we age most of our spines fuse and move as one unit. We have 24 presacral vertebraes that should be able independently move from flexion/extension, laterally flex, and rotate etc. The problem is most of us have lost the ability to do this. Yes the structure of the vertebrae do get smaller as you climb up the spine and have less movement, but they should all be able to move. -  The spine is the foundation of our human body and we need to make it a priority, not so much the core that every one talks about. This is a good starting point for Danny and I look forward to enhancing his spinal movement. A full #spinalcar can be a tricky movement to learn all in one go.  So what do I do to teach someone how to control their #spine in all directions ? I do partials!  In the 3 videos about, Ive broken down the full spinal CAR into its component parts  1️⃣Flexion/Extension 2️⃣lateral Flexion right/left 3️⃣Rotation right/left  After John can start to feel these positions, disassociate spine from pelvis and hips, and find balance and control internally, I will connect the pieces to make a full #controlledarticularrotation ! ▶️ the #foamroller is being used as feedback to help John keep his #pelvis and #hip stable. ▶️shoutout to my dude John for coming in every week ready to work! Brian’s Pain Stories: Neck Pain ⠀ I’ve had far more concussions than are healthy for a human being. It’s a wonder any of you actually listen to me 😆 ⠀ Lots of shoulder injuries too. ⠀ Between all of that, my neck really took a beating. I had chronic pain and nasty tension, as well as very limited mobility. ⠀ Some days I’d wake up and turning my neck would give me shooting pain down my shoulder or spine. ⠀ I did a lot of “smashing” of the traps and neck with lacrosse balls, sticks, barbells, etc. ⠀ It gave me very temporary relief, and the next day would be exactly the same. ⠀ Once I started using ACTIVE inputs like scapular and neck CARs, I saw (lasting) improvements in the neck mobility and pain/tension. ⠀ The key, as always, is to work slowly in a pain free range and do lots of reps. ⠀ 🔥PAIN STORY TAKE-AWAY🔥 “Passive inputs yield passive results.
