I just finished a nature sketching/watercolour course, and I don’t think I’ll ever look at Camas flowers the same again. Reproducing all of these purples and blues with watercolour was so much more difficult than it seemed! Maybe I should stick with photography for my field documentation... 🤷♀️💕
While sand mining and land clearing for agricultural purposes play a role in their decline, the most chronic is the over harvesting of their eggs. TCS have been actively collecting these eggs during the nesting season and incubates them at their private hatchery. All terrapins hatchlings produced are raised in captivity until their maiden release into the wild. Since the project initiation in 2011, more than 4700 eggs were saved from human consumption and approximately 3000 hatchlings made it into the rivers they inhabit.
