KICK BACK: After a few weeks of daily appointments and commitments, I realized I needed to be a bit careful. As much as I am so excited about the future and grateful for all the people and opportunities that are in my life, I need to remember a few things. I’m sharing them here in case they help you, too. 1) KICK BACK: Schedule at least ONE day per week (if possible) where your only plans are to have no plans at all. Take the day to breathe, kick back, and relax into your body as you let it relax completely. 2) PERMISSION: Give yourself permission to not be available without feeling guilty or explaining it away. Simply acknowledge that it’s a need you have in order to be the best you you can be. 3) DREAM: Let your mind wander without making plans or writing anything down. Simply think upon “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.” — 4) BELIEVE: Some call it faith, some say it’s manifesting, some even refer to it as future-thinking. However you define the act of believing, lean into it. Allow yourself to let believing (for all you’ve dreamed of) become natural to your mental state of being. There’s plenty more to share but if you’ve read this far already, I think you get the point. 😊 Is there anything you’d add to this list? How do you kick back?
ENGAGE AND CONNECT: (FREEBIE BELOW) I’m seeing what was predicted a few years ago for large scale companies trickle down to smaller businesses. People are realizing - as small business owners - that attempting to win the “attention war” by producing content at the same scale and pace as larger companies isn’t working. They’re not seeing the results in terms of sales or client and customer retention. Which is a good thing; this awakening. Instead, focusing on engaging and connecting might be where the real magic lies. CONNECT WITH PEOPLE WHO MAKE YOU THINK When you come across a post that provides new information, make sure to let the person who created it know. Anyone can quickly "like" something but if you really want to connect with others, leave them a comment or send a message about how what they shared impacted you.
MORNING SOUNDS: Bottles being dumped into a recycling bin. The lines from a flagpole flapping in the wind. Neighbor children faintly heard as their mom gathers them together for their bike ride to school. — Thank You, Lord, for these ears that can hear and these eyes that can see and for the morning sounds you send me each and every day.
PRACTICALITIES: In my last post I talked about the need to create custom content. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I encouraged the use of art over empty calories. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But, what if your business doesn’t have the time, budget, or ability to make meaningful content that adds value to your customers’ lives? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Does that mean you shouldn’t publish anything at all? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ No, it doesn’t. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m a BIG BELIEVER in using what you’ve got and finding ways to repurpose your content. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Even little things like personalization or an updated design aesthetic can go a long way toward helping people know you’re thinking about them and their needs.
CREATE: When you’re thinking about adding content marketing to your social media efforts ... it would be ever so lovely, if instead of a steady stream of nothingness, you got serious about your reason for being online and decided to serve your followers by crafting custom content created specifically for their needs. — And if you’ve hired people who are telling you otherwise, ask them to show you how “empty calorie” content is helping your business actually achieve its goals.
Goals need direction and strategy. • One of the reasons why we don’t accomplish the things that we say that we will isn’t because we don’t set the goal, but because we don’t determine the path we will take to get there. • Let’s set our goals and set our GPS to get to achieving them 🦋

One of the many ways to personalize your business with Illustration is by utilizing a unique INFOGRAPHIC about what you do. It's a fun way to make complicated information simple to understand, because when pictures are involved they easily remain in the mind (especially with us visual learners) and, therefore, having an illustrated graphic becomes an effective tool in having your customer's and client's retain important information about who you are, what you do and offer them. I created this busy infographic about what happens to the mind and heart when we, as business owners and entrepreneurs, send and receive greeting card's to those we serve. It was a personal project suggested by a coach in my business. THE SMALL THINGS: I was watching a video last year with @garyvee and @thebackpackkid — They were exploring ways to increase exposure, find new directions, use creativity, and connect with the huge following and community the Backpack kid had amassed. — At one point, The Kid’s manager asked Gary V about doing something “big” to celebrate getting a certain number of followers (The Kid’s got like, a zillion right now). — Gary V said something like, “Nah .... everyone is doing that. Everyone is saying at some magic, round number, ‘Whoo hoo! We’ve got 10,000 followers!’ Where’s the difference if you guys do the same thing?” — Which, of course, made my “counter-culture” mindset smile and smile. — Then, Gary V said it would be cooler and more DISRUPTIVE to shout out when The Kid reached a DIFFERENT number - possibly one tied to a company or a brand which could bring sponsorship offers and ratchet up brand awareness like crazy. — Follower counts are funny things. They remind me of this song that has this verse, “You give and take away, You give and take away...” — Which brings me back to how what Gary V said has been something I knew I’d pull out of my back pocket “for such a time as this”. — 888 people - as of today - are following me (not counting all the private profiles or creepy, “Hey there beautiful!” accounts I’ve blocked 🤮). — And while 888 certainly doesn’t point to my “Influencer status” 😂, it IS a chance to try some Gary V type stuff out on you guys but also ... it reminds me of another “famous” guy who spoke about how those who were “faithful with little” would be given the chance to be “faithful with much”. — How I steward the gifts I’ve been given by 888 of you giving ME a small part of your lives and attention is the ONLY way I want to be measured. — So, as they say in Sweden, “STOR GRATTIS ALLIHOPA! I love that everyday I can wake up and know that God is working in the background and preparing the way for me. KNOW YOURSELF: If you’re working with clients, you probably know you need to have certain “people skills” so that they see how much you value and appreciate them. — Also important is maintaining a level of professionalism that speaks to the quality of your work so they trust you are the person to solve their problems. — Sometimes, though, in your rush to connect or as you attempt to multitask ... you fumble the ball. — And when relationships are new and there aren’t built-in layers of trust to override any misunderstandings, a fumble can cost you big time. — For me, I know myself well enough to realize who I am before coffee and who I am after are remarkably different. Rarely do I interact with new clients until I’ve had my second cup. — I’ve also discovered, however, that who I am WITH GLASSES and who I am without can make or break your opinion of my professional abilities (typos, anyone??). I’ve never had to wear glasses before and the habit is a new one I have to develop. 🤓 — These two things - coffee and reading glasses - have become essential parts of my ability to help you. Without them ... you might second-guess your opinion of what @perfrykman calls my Reputation Resume. — Which has me wondering about you. Do you have clients or customers that you need to interact with on a regular basis? If so, have you discovered any potential problems in your communication methods and/or delivery that cause you to fumble the ball? — If there are, take some time to replay them in your mind. See where the fumbled occurred and what the situation surrounding it was. Chances are, it’s something simple, like mine, that once you’re aware of, you can easily correct and plan to avoid next time. 🤓☕️
DO YOU DELIGHT? I’ve been re-working the way I work over the last year. Slowly and in measured steps, a new purpose and feeling for who I want to be and how I want to use my abilities has been revealed. And what I realize now is, with every new project I start and every new client I work with, on top of solving their problems, I also want to DELIGHT them. I want them to feel - with every experience they have with me - like they are safe and secure in the plans and strategies we’re creating and because of that, they can’t stop smiling or feeling “all the tingles” as my best friend says. It’s more than customer service and it’s more than relationship marketing. It’s operating from a completely different mindset. What would it take for you to approach each client interaction with the intent to DELIGHT?
WINTER WEEKEND: If possible, what do you think about making time to be by yourself - outside and in nature - as part of your weekend plans? — For me, I normally work Saturdays at least part-time but I also try and carve out space to just absorb the world and all it’s wild beauty. — The result is I’m always left feeling more centered, grounded, and soothed than if I filled my weekend with plans. — For those who own their own businesses and set their own hours, when the weekend (or your version of it) comes, what do you do the most?

I'm more than often asked 'what kind of illustrator are you?' When I mention I am one. In fact, the term ILLUSTRATOR can perplex many of those doing the asking... 'Like, do you do children's books?' To 'huh?' ... My answeres range from - Well yes, and no, and, I draw stuff for a living, to, I actually mainly create illustration for people in business, etc - boiling it down like this helps practice my 'elevator pitch' 😂 and yet sometimes I have a client request that I hadn't even thought off. Leo was recommended to me from another client of mine. He was told "she's good, she's a professional so she'll cost", which lead Leo to say... "So, I reckon you'll charge maybe like $100/hr, amiright?' I laughed with surprise and said 'Close, well done! But I in fact charge $80/hr', with that he felt he was already winning! What was amazing to me is that Leo is 70 years old and was about to invest $750 with me. Assuring me that he didn't have$100,000 to spend, Leo's website is full of Bible studies accompanied by 700 old illustrations like the pics on the right. He'd wanted them all updated over time with my help. He wants to eventually animate them and knew he needed to have them as vector files. So started our working relationship. He's easy to work with and I enjoyed creating our first figures in the story of the night Jesus was taken... Peter on left has just cut off someones ear and a Roman soldier. I've included the original images to show the difference between them. The illustrations are a composition of several researched images each to create both.
