Hike number 3 of our #appalachiantrail#sectionhike in the books in New Jersey with an unintended 20 mile day and sleeping in the car. We arrived late Friday (impromptu Walmart run because I forgot my hiking shoes) to find the Mashipacong shelter full and rainy so we slept in the car. Our Saturday plan was to hike from Deckertown turnpike to the secret shelter, then Sunday finish it out to Lake Wallkill Rd, we didn’t stop. It was still early and we were feeling good when we go to the shelter and went for it. We were beat by the end but it was great. Downside to the new plan though, where do we sleep? We decided to start heading home and snagged the last room at the Hampton inn in Easton. #latergram
Finished the final day of the ten day Rock Guide Course with the @amga1979. Thanks @extremealpine, @michaelabbey_mountainguide and, Casey for creating the safest and most fun learning environment! I couldn’t have expected such approachable, encouraging, and constructive instructors. Now off to the Women’s Climbing Festival with @heyflashfoxy in Bishop!
AT Day 9: Carter Gap Shelter to Winding Stairs Gap - Miles: 16 for the day (109.4 / 2192.0) - Times I smiled: a milli - 100 miles in the books, ya’ll! We broke a freezing cold (22 deg) camp early and headed north, knowing what the milestone for the day would be. The trail was quick and easy, leading up to the Albert Mountain Fire Tower (the ascent was no joke, however). Once atop, I was greeted by my tramily and we all sat down and had lunch together. Perfect. There were times I didn’t think I’d hit this mile, but it felt great and I was beyond pumped for the remainder of the day. We decided to push our mileage a bit further and shuttle to town for a zero. Time to rest these tired joints! Enjoyed dinner and drinks with my favorite people on trail. Doesn’t get any better than that, imo. • • • • #appalachiantrail #at2019 #at #trektheat #georgiatomaine #thetrek #thruhike #thruhiking #hike #hiking #outdoors #optoutside #travel #adventure #backpacking#wanderlust #camping #campvibes #takeahike #atc #choosemountains #getoutside #ultralight #wondermore #travelstoke #sonyalpha #withguthook
Okay last Baldy post... Perfect depiction of me when someone invites me to go hiking.. I don’t care who you are, if it calls for adventure, and sounds like I can fit it in my schedule, you bet your bottom dollar I’ll be there 🤣 Can’t wait for the adventures friends and I have planned this year so far! Also, most of you know I don’t like Baldy as it’s overcrowded and I personally feel it has become a commercialized destination (strongly recommend doing your research on any mountain regarding trail conditions, closures, and weather before visiting if you’ve never been, & you’re reading this- your safety comes first). Despite feeling this way, I can’t deny the beautiful views that surround this mountain. 😍 It’s never easy getting up, but it’s a good workout nonetheless! Also, it never fails to blow me away— so there’s that ⛄️ 🌬🌫🌪
AZT Day 20 | Halfway 394 / 788 = halfway there. Just a couple hours later, the 400 mile mark and lunch beside a spooky mine. I'm now traversing the Mazatzal Mountains, which has been challenging, but also a highlight of this thru-hike. This place is rugged as it is remote, and was once THE location used by moonshiners to produce 'Payson Dew' during prohibition. Evening brought on an elk sighting, more snow travel, and camp on a forested saddle with the first hiker I'd met in awhile. #dirtbagdarling#hikertrash#ultralightbacking#arizonatrail#thruhikerthursday
Happy International Day of Forests 🌳 Filtering the air we breathe, improving water quality, and absorbing mass amounts of carbon dioxide, we have ample reasons to honor our forests. Make sure to hug a tree extra tight today 🌲💚
I may have actually shrieked with glee when I saw this new whale shirt @unitedbyblue just released this spring!! For every item purchased UBB takes one pound of trash out of our waterways and with #worldwaterday coming up tomorrow, I can get down with that! (Ella, aka @lilharborseal is far more excited about all of the chippies waking up from their winter naps) 💙 #unitedbyblue#bluemovement 📸: @oceansandmountains
#throwbackthursday to my first solo backpacking trip. Spring is here and warmer weather is on the way...can’t wait for more backpacking adventures, alpine lakes, and morning coffee in hammocks. #happyspring 🌲 #mtnchicks#mtnchicksdoitbetter#alpinebabes#mountainchild#momswhohike#hikerslife#choosemountains#choosemountainswomen#hikerbabe#wearewilderness#inthewildimtheboss#womenwhoexplore#idhikehat#chickswhohike#wildernessbabes#keepitwild#outdoorwomensalliance#enohammock#salomon#backpacking#solobackpacking
You may have heard that we’ll be heading back to finish the last 245 miles of the Appalachian Trail this summer. You probably have NOT heard that we’ll be doing a little 3,000+ mile training hike on the Continental Divide Trail first!!! We’re so incredibly excited to share this adventure with good friends and to set out on what will truly be a test of all the thru hiking skills. #bravethecdt#cdt2019#rattlesandnomad#at2018#nomadhikes#triplecrown#pct2015 📷: @ms.radishhead
Finally getting around to posting the one photo we got at the #chuckanut50k this weekend! Such a wonderful, well run (haha) event in a beautiful place 🏔 Really couldn’t have asked for a better race weekend. So grateful for training partners like this guy, and for the friends who spent part of their Saturday supporting us! We both crushed our goals, and learned so much about how to run a 50K. Onto the next adventure!!
Being a fur-mom is tough. Your patience is tested through and through. Training never ends. But the love and connection you are lucky enough to experience overcomes everything. Oliver may push my limits but one look in his brown eyes and any frustration is gone, replaced by admiration. So today I’m looking extra long into his eyes❥
Starting to plan and dream about all things summer and one of them is camping under the stars ✨ . Going deep in the the mountains away from any lights, the stars light up the sky at night and that’s where I found inspiration for this piece. Original is sold but prints are now back in stock! Take a moment to be still in nature, In nature we become our most basic self, not this modern version that is rift with trauma and outside influence. We are in the moment, enjoying the physicality of the experience and not hearing the media, not encumbered by work, not focusing 20 steps ahead. There are no car noises, no people yelling or phones ringing, no pumping music. There is wind, birds, the crunch of branches or rustle of leaves... or nothing at all. Photo by @nicholas_boffoli
