Is this how you hold your phone? Do you tend to bring your head to your phone instead of bringing your phone to your head —eye level? #textneck . . . . Here are several pieces of advice for preventing the development or advancement of text neck: 1. Hold your cell phone at eye level as much as possible. The same holds true for all screens—laptops and tablets should also be positioned so the screen is at eye level and you don't have to bend your head forward or look down to view it.  2.Take frequent breaks from your phone and laptop throughout the day. For example, set a timer or alarm that reminds you to get up and walk around every 20 to 30 minutes.If you work in an office, make sure your screen is set up so that when you look at it you are looking forward, with your head positioned squarely in line with your shoulders and spine.

🤨📬SHOULDER STRETCHES ARE TOUGH📬🤨 • Soooooo many muscles 🤯 attach on or near your shoulder (G-H joint). These stretches shown are just for your internal and external rotators🌪. This is not an all-inclusive list of muscles to be stretched for your shoulders!✍🏼 • One ☝🏼 of the only things that could limit the passive external rotation of your shoulder is the flexibility/tightness 🔗 of your internal rotators, and vice versa↔️. Because we know the normal ranges for these motions (in degrees📐), if we test and find a range of motion (ROM) that is limited👎🏼, we can then track back to the source of the limitation!🕵🏻‍♂️ • External rotators: 🎅🏼Teres Minor 🎅🏼Infraspinatus Internal rotators: 🎅🏼Subscapularis • Follow the instructions 📝 in the video, and try out these two stretches! Had the pleasure to sit in on the Eat Like a Lady seminar yesterday with Evolution Health Care and Ultra Fitness. It was an amazing panel discussion by Dana Katz, Sarah Duncan, Amy Sproston, and Alex Borsuk.  Reminding women that it’s OKAY to eat. We don’t need to earn our calories or obsess about them constantly. So get your mind out of those stereotypical thoughts! What's the utility of a goal without a plan?⠀ .⠀ New years resolutions often come with UGEEE goals, but, without a plan to accomplish them how will you ever learn to speak spanish, or commit to only eating cake on Tuesdays?⠀ .⠀ I'm lucky if I can stick to a goal for longer than a couple weeks if I don't have solid plan set in place. Does your foot feel rigid? Are you lacking foot mobility? Or are you having trouble activating the intrinsic muscles of your feet? Well, here’s an exercise to work into your daily routine! Start by finding a wall for support and stand on the side that you’d like to work on. ⁣ ⁣ Slightly bend your knee and allow it to track forward toward the wall as you move through this exercise. As your leg crosses in front of and behind your stance leg, supination is occurring. As your leg reaches away from your body out to the side and behind, pronation is occurring. (👣See video 2 for a closer example👣)⁣ ⁣ I’m sure some of you have been told that you pronate too much... and yes, too much pronation can lead to compensatory patterns in the knee and hip. However, not enough mobility can lead to some problems too 🤔 Did you know that supination AND pronation are both necessary for proper heel strike and toe off during our gait cycle?? That’s right, our feet are supposed to be able to move through these motions!! ⁣ ⁣ This exercise is a great way to attempt to “wake up” your feet. We sit in shoes all day and don’t give them enough love. Start here and see if you can feel some activation of muscles that you didn’t even know existed 😱👍🏼⁣ ⁣

So thankful for this man right here — not the one flexing {of course I’m thankful for him too} but right now I’m talking about my daddy @waveridingdoc71 — I have so many of his characteristics that when I was younger we would really butt heads (who doesn’t with teenagers though right?!) but through that he’s always been there to support & encourage me.  Thankful for the relationship we have and I’m SO thankful that he chased his dream. I’m thankful that when our kids have some kind of ailment our first call is to my dad.. There’s so much to be said about Chiropractic as a whole but it’s so important when it comes to kids — from developmentally (think of a tree growing crooked 🤔) to acid reflux + headaches + constipation + flipping and landing wrong (I know my kids can’t be the only ones constantly flipping and twisting like pretzels) + ear infections and keeping immune systems boosted 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Today was different. Kids wanted to go see dad after hurting themselves at cheer (see the whole flipping thing 😝) & @gonz_guerra hurt his elbow so we dashed up there BUT when we got there I remembered him mentioning him hurting a nerve in his neck over the weekend. 😫  Seeing him in pain from a pinched nerve {the irony that he’s hurting from the very thing he fixes all day} made my heart hurt. He selflessly gives himself every day & not being able to help him stings.  Since I know he is doing everything he can to relieve the pain, I’d love it if you could send some healing prayers his way! The nerves that control the muscles in your arms are all found exiting between the vertebrae in your the neck. Degenerative Disc Disease  Phase 1- First your spine loses its normal balance. There may be a loss of normal spinal curves. Your nerves may be affected and the vital life energy that flows over them is interfered with. Also your joints, discs, nerves and posture are stressed and age more quickly. Surprisingly, there may be no pain other than occasional minor discomfort. Also present may be a slight lessening of energy and slight height loss. Response to spinal care is generally good.  Phase 2 Here there is a much greater degree of decay, disc narrowing and bone spurs (deformations); postural changes are much worse. This condition is very common (by age 40, 80% of males and 76% of females exhibit moderate disc degeneration). Spinal canal narrowing or stenosis may occur. This phase is characterized by more common aches and pains, fatigue, and a diminished ability to cope with stress. Height continues to decrease. With chiropractic care significant improvement is possible.  Phase 3 Here there are more postural imbalances, increased nerve damage, permanent scar tissue and advanced bone deformation. Physical and/or mental weakness or disability begin. Also found in this phase are permanent loss of height and loss of energy. With care some reversal is possible.  Phase 4 (not imaged)  most advanced stage of degeneration, the postural imbalance is severe and motion is limited. There is extensive nerve damage, permanent scar tissue is formed and bones may begin to fuse. Individuals experience pain, various degrees of physical or mental disability and continued loss of energy and height. . . . What should you do?!? The goal of chiropractic care for DDD is to improve joint mechanics by improving spinal motion and reducing inflammation. With chiropractic care, prevention is key, and therapeutic exercises can prevent your symptoms of degenerative disc disease from getting worse.

HOW IMPORTANT IS MAGNESIUM!? . . VERY!!! Magnesium is the 4th most abundant mineral in your body and is a co-factor for more than 300 regulatory enzymes! It is mainly involved in metabolism (you know, the process that makes every cell in your body function). For ATP (your energy molecule) to function, it must first combine with magnesium to become available. Basically, magnesium is REALLY IMPORTANT! . . What about Magnesium deficiency? Most deficiency symptoms are related to muscle activity – and not just skeletal muscle activity. This means deficiencies can involve blood pressure issues, intestinal issues, cardiac issues, and skeletal muscle spasms. (Side note: I am NOT saying your high blood pressure is caused by this. Many conditions are multi-factorial and require thorough investigation into the causes). Someone with magnesium deficiency may also feel fatigued or lethargic. Contributing factors to deficiency include: exercise, trauma, noise pollution, drugs, and mental stress . . How do you test for magnesium deficiency? Your doctor can do a blood test for INTRACELLULAR magnesium (erythrocyte or sublingual epithelial Mg). They can also test for extracellular magnesium, but magnesium’s function is mostly done within the cell, so intracellular testing is a much more functional test . . How much should you take if you are deficient? Oral magnesium supplementation has been suggested to be around 5mg/kg/day. Meaning if you weigh 65kg, a recommended daily dose would be around 325mg/day. However, if you regularly eat foods with magnesium in them (like black beans, halibut, plantains, spinach, pumpkin seeds, etc.) this oral dosage recommendation might change. Supplemented magnesium should also be chelated (example: magnesium citrate) . . If you think you might be deficient in magnesium, consult your doctor before starting on a supplementation treatment. Additionally, if your doctor has you on a prescription drug, supplementation might be dangerous with drug
OVERWHELMED?? YEAH SAME ➡️➡️ This upcoming week is going to be very overwhelming…5 exams —> then finals week! Can’t believe “dead week” ever existed… seriously though, I don’t even remember what it was like?? — I am one of those people that loves to make To-Do lists. My friends make fun of me because I will write something down in my planner JUST so that I can cross it off the list (makes me feel productive somehow)!! Although, it is completely ridiculous, I can’t deny it. — So this upcoming week I have a lot on my list - but thats okay BECAUSE I will eventually get to cross those things off!! 😂 — I also get stressed very easily, which is something that I have been trying to work on lately. JD always tells me “you’ll be fine, just focus on the things you CAN control, and don’t dwell on the things that you can’t”. 🕰💪🏼IT’S TIME TO FIX YOUR SHOULDER WARM-UP💪🏼🕰 • This is such a common shoulder warm-up! 😲 It’s not necessarily a bad warm-up, but the way that it is often performed is suboptimal in terms of warming up your rotator cuff muscles. 🥈 • When using a weight to do this warm-up🔥, gravity naturally puts the most resistance down on your bicep 👇🏼 rather than your rotator cuff muscles. • To fix this, use a LIGHT 🍃 resistance band anchored on a wall or pole at elbow height, and use it to apply resistance against either your external ↩️ or internal ↪️ rotators when warming up before a workout! • All that being said, the shoulder, being very mobile, is naturally a very unstable joint. ☝🏼 Maximum external and internal rotation are sensitive and slightly unstable positions on top of that.
