Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? - If every time you train pull ups it looks like this: - jump up on the bar, squeeze out a handful of reps, rest, get 1-2 reps less, rest, then on your last set grind out a couple reps. - Then it’s time for a change of pace. - This type of training simply lacks the volume and variety to improve your current pull up abilities. - Here are 3 ways to spice up your training and improve your pull up game: - 1: Add weight. Simple adjustment here, increasing the intensity of your sets can help improve strength. - 2: Add slow eccentrics and isometric holds. This could mean pull yourself up and hold at the top for 5 seconds, or hold for 4 seconds then lower for 4 seconds, or lower for 30 seconds! Be creative with these, they are an INCREDIBLE tool for building size and strength. - 3: Use bands not for assistance, but for resistance. The increasing tension as the rep progresses forces a more forceful contraction needed to build the momentum to finish the rep. Here I have my awesome client @lpetchlee1 demonstrating a brutal pullup variation which combines the longitudinal trap bar pullup with knee raise foam roller adduction. Besides blasting the lats & upper body, these absolutely pummel the core & abs as the combination of hip flexion, hip adduction, & ankle dorsiflexion requires enormous core activation.  Additionally these features help reinforce full body tension & spinal rigidity due to the concurrent activation potentiation effect associated with squeezing the distal extremities. In other words the increased full body tension enhances neural drive to the primary muscles (back, lats, & arms) while also eliminating energy leaks & instability.  Furthermore, the longitudinal trap bar pullup provides 3 benefits  1. Reinforces Symmetrical Pulling Mechanics. If you have tendency to favor one side/arm more than the other when performing pullups or tend to shift, wiggle, tilt, kip, or use excessive momentum these will provide immediate feedback as the bar will begin to tilt either to one side or wobble back and forth until the lifter locks in their mechanics.  2. Creates A Strong Hypertrophy Stimulus. As a result of using such strict smooth mechanics for reasons above, these absolutely blast the lats, upper back, & arms with high levels of constant tension & metabolic stress.  3. Provides A Comfortable Hand Width. Although using the traditional trap bar handles represents one of my favorite options for pullups, some folks will find those a bit too wide. The longitudinal grip on the other hand is 2-4 inches narrower which ends up feeling significantly more comfortable & natural for many lifters. We do a lot of L-sits in training starting with the ground L-sit. Progressing to full ground L-sit on the floor is a big jump for some especially if hamstring flexibility is missing (like me). This video shows the four steps to progressing to the floor L-sit. First ground L-sit push into the floor lifting your hips in the air but leave your feet in contact with the floor ๐Ÿ‘‰ Feet in ground L-sit drag your feet closer to your body and still keep your feet on the floor (this looks easier but it’s actually harder) ๐Ÿ‘‰ Legs crossed sit cross your legs and press into the ground lifting your hips and legs off the floor you’ll now be supporting your full bodyweight ๐Ÿ‘‰ Ground L-sit extend your legs out to an L-sit and hold. When training work woth a progression that you can hold for at least 15 seconds and work up to 30 seconds + before jumping to the next progression ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

I’m going to ask you two questions, and I want you to be 100% honest answering them...โฃโฃ Now, on a scale of 1-10, how well do you stick with your nutrition goals Friday through Sunday? (1 being “not at all” and 10 being “absolutely perfect”)โฃโฃ โ €โฃโฃ If you answered honestly, then you might have found the answer to why you might be struggling.โฃ โ €โฃโ €โฃโฃ Usually, I’ll get an 8 or a 9 for the first question, and then a 5, 4, 3, or lower score for the weekend…โฃโฃ โ €โฃโฃ Then they’ll say, “well, I see so-and-so eating pizza on his Instagram story, and he’s always looking lean!”โฃโฃ โ €โฃโฃ But how often do you *really* see that going down?โฃโฃ โ €โฃโฃ Is it every single night of the week?โฃโฃ โฃ Is it every Thursday through Sunday?โฃโฃ โฃ Or, is it just once or sometimes twice a week?โฃโฃ โ €โฃโฃ Listen.โฃโฃ โฃ Dieting is hard work.โฃโฃ โ €โฃโฃ But luckily, you don’t have to be 100% perfect.โฃโฃ โ €โฃโฃ You can go over your calories and eat pizza (or whatever fun food you want) on occasion and still get incredible results.โฃโฃ โ €โฃโฃ But “occasionally” doesn’t mean overeating 3-4 times every single weekend. ๐Ÿ˜‰โฃโฃ โ €โฃโฃ If you know you struggle with staying on track Friday through Sunday, here's my advice:โฃโฃ โ €โฃโฃ 1โƒฃ Plan Ahead of Time- to the best of your ability, at least. โ € โฃโฃ โฃ 2โƒฃ Track Ahead of Time - Figure out what you'll be eating and plan it into your calorie goals.
