LET’S LAUGH WEEK THE DAY THE CRAYONS QUIT: Where to start?! These books are just so much fun! There are two in the set ~ The Day The Crayons Quit ~ The Day The Crayons Came Home I love how moany these crayons are! They crack me up. Poor little Duncan wakes up to find himself having to navigate & manage the social engagement of his art supplies 😆 Our personal favourite is Esteban the Magnificent, Short picked that character for world book day one year. I love how interactive the crayons are & how lengthily the text is so that the book can engage with a wide breadth of ages. Shorts opinion on the matter is as follows: ‘The crayons are ridiculous!’ Author: @drewdaywalt Illustration: @oliverjeffers Publisher: @harpercollinsch #thefamilybookworm#mrsbookworm#mrsbookwormreads#shortbookworm#shortbookwormreview#childrensliterature#childrensbooks#childrensauthor#childrensillustration#letslaughweek
¡No!, de @martaltes y editado por @thule_ediciones, es un álbum ilustrado que nadie se puede perder. Es la historia de un perro que se porta tan pero tan bien que su familia tiene su nombre todo el día en la boca. #martaaltes#editorialthule#no#libroalbum#albumilustrado#picturebook#librosinfantiles#childrensbooks#literature#literatura#literaturainfantil#childrensliterature#read#leer#lecturacompartida#lecturaenvozalta#reading#book#libro#ilustracion#ilustration#children#lecturarecomendada#recomendaciones
I grew up listening to fables, but the one I remember the most is, The Lion and the Mouse. I can retell that fable to my children without missing a beat. I loved how an animal as tiny and ordinary as a mouse could rescue a mighty lion. It taught me that no matter how small you are, you can do great and wonderful things. Buitrago and Yockteng came together and gave this old familiar fable a modern update. This update showcases an unlikely friendship. You watch Lion and Mouse learn how to trust one another and learn that you can reciprocate favors back and forth without felling obligated. @groundwoodbooks will be releasing this heartwarming book May 7th! I truly hope you add this to your must read book list.
The summer that I was preparing for my first teaching job, I met with some elementary and independent school administrators. They gave me 2 recommendations that stuck with me throughout my ten-year teaching career: to do a Responsive Classroom “morning meeting,” and to buy, read, and share with kids Thomas Armstrong’s book You’re Smarter Than You Think: A Kid’s Guide to Multiple Intelligences. Fortunately now, there are many wonderful picture books for children that center around the idea of multiple intelligences, and today I’d like to introduce you to my new favorite— All the Ways to Be Smart by Davina Bell, illustrated by Allison Colpoys. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Published last October, All the Ways to Be Smart immediately caught my attention, but… It was published in Australia, our local library didn’t have it, and it was going to take a long time to order it and have it shipped… So I put it in my Amazon wishlist and waited. Then, @patzmill sent me Remarkably You, and I remembered how much I had wanted to check this one out, too (thanks for the nudge, @picturebookplaydate). So, I ordered it, waited, and waited some more, and finally it came! And, let me tell you, All the Ways to Be Smart was worth the wait! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s bright, happy, diverse, affirming, challenging, positive, and so much more. Bell reminds us through her words that smart can be so much more than good at reading and math. And Colpoys illustrations help make Bell’s message accessible to all children. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While All the Ways to Be Smart would be an amazing addition for preschool and elementary classrooms, especially in this school climate where children worry at younger and younger ages about their performances in reading, writing, and math, the way Bell wrote this book makes it perfect to read one on one with a child you love at home as well. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Trust me— this one is worth ordering from Australia!
Jan Brett’s The Easter Egg exemplifies her skills as an illustrator, as well as gives you a good example of how many of Brett’s books appear. Many of Brett’s books follow a similar format where an elaborate frame is created along the perimeter of the page that encloses the scene, but she also usually provides two smaller frames on either side of the page that either often include images that foreshadow future scenes or provide an expansion of the larger scene. Brett’s intricate compositions allow one to get lost in another world. . Many of Brett’s illustrations start with a subject and drawing. Brett has said that she likes to study real life and many of the animals that scatter the pages of the Easter Egg are animals that Brett sees in her everyday life. She begins her illustrations with a pencil or marker, and then will add color with watercolor. There are many videos out there that showcase Brett’s expertise and allow her to explain her approach to creating these complex images. I recommend taking a look! . @putnambooks #janbrett#theeasteregg
Okay, it is CROWD SOURCING time!! I am working this weekend on creating a list of books (chapters books for the elementary years) that are great stories AND have lots of great vocabulary words that can be used for vocabulary study. (There are some books I love that actually don’t have a lot of “big” words so really trying to weed those out.) Obviously, there is a lot to choose from and I have plenty of ideas, but I am also having a serious case of FOMO and know there are wonderful books that I have not thought of! So comment below and let me know what I am missing!! TIA! #childrensliterature#vocabulary#homeschoolblog
We’ve entered the Peppa Pig phase thanks to @amarakbaranthonyandme fabulous peppa themed party. En was familiar with it before but has started to really connect with the show now. Peppa Pig is a british children’s show made for preschoolers which first aired in 2004! Why is it such a global hit and remains so? It has anthropomorphic animal characters such as the protagonist Peppa Pig and her family and different animal species of friends that surround them. It has simple brightly coloured graphics, similar to a child’s drawing, and accessible subjects about friendship, sharing, kindness, family and more. Of course Peppa has inspired an elaborate series of books (board, musical and picture) which are again bursting with colours and educational and basic life lessons (Peppa Goes to the Dentist, Learning to Share, Peppa’s First Pet etc.) If you’re having trouble getting your toddler to sit down for other books give Peppa a try. The tiny 4 book library set really works well for us when travelling and surprisingly for actually sleeping. These are @ladybirdbooks board books and were purchased from @thelastwordbks and @kinokuniyadubai . #momblogger#childrensbooks#booksforkids#booksfortoddlers#lahoreblogger#peppapig#booksforbabies#booksforen#raisingareader#kidlit#ladybirdbooks#childrensbooks#childrensliterature#peppapigbook#karachimombloggers#islamabad#dubaimomblogger#readingaloud#nandmlibrary#kidbooks#kidbookstagram

It’s getting to be that time of year again when Goldfish go on holiday... . . Love this review thank you • @everydaynewenglander We read so many books every year and I love so many of them. But there’s always a few that stand out and become family favorites. #goldfishonvacation by @sallylloydjones has most definitely hit the list of all time favorites. The mix of reality (who doesn’t wish they could escape the sweltering heat all summer?) and humor and imagination are perfectly blended. History and modern mix on the page in the text and the illustrations. Grandpa makes you wish he was your grandpa. You turn the pages wanting to know what happens. You wish you were splashing in the fountain. You laugh when Grandpa assures the kids they have retrieved their own goldfish. You get to recite prepositions, count pairs of shoes, find matching children. The illustrations are top notch. We couldn’t love it more and we welcome it to the family with open arms. . .#childrensbooks #readaloudrevival#literature#childrensliterature#everydaynewengland#kidswhoread#literacy#summertime #wecantkeepgoldfishalivesowereadaboutthemnow #goldfishonvacation#sallylloydjones#leoespinosa#nyc#hamiltonfountain#hamilton#uws

Behaviors of a Bookworm: "This little one is learning the alphabet. She first focused on identifying capital letters. However, most books are written in lower case letters, so now she is practicing finding lower case letters. She points out letters on shirts and signs and in books as she goes about her day. She also plays with lower case magnetic letters on her refrigerator. Her parents have learned to converse about books and stories with her so she is being raised a bookworm." Bookworm Babies
The libraries at my school put on a fabulous book week for the kids. There were a number of things going on which I’ll talk about in upcoming posts, but today I want to mention my favorite part. . The librarians decided to try something new this year and host a book swap. Monday through Thursday kids and parents were asked to donate books. They received a coupon for each book (up to five coupons) they brought in. Then on Friday, the books were laid out on tables and the kids brought their coupons to choose their free new-to-them books. . The turnout for this was amazing! There were so many really great books to choose from. Swipe to see some of the tables. (When I first got there, there were a number of elementary books mixed in with the books on the Middle School / High School tables, but they were working on taking the younger level books over to the elementary room while I was there.) . I don’t have a lot of book-buying options in China, and this was such a fabulous and fun way to give kids (and parents) an opportunity to get different books to call their own. . I’ll post the day’s book haul for me and my kids soon.
“New Girls at Malory Towers” by Pamela Cox, Enid Blyton and cover illustration by Peter Cottrill is a bumper volume of three Malory Tower sequels. Malory Towers is a series of six novels by Enid Blyton. The series is based on the girls' boarding school Benenden School that Blyton's daughter attended, and that relocated during the war to the Cornish seaside. The series follows the protagonist, Darrell Rivers on her adventures and experiences in boarding school. In 2009, six more books were added to the series by author Pamela Cox. Events in these take place after Darrell has left the school and focuses on her younger sister, Felicity Rivers. The book contains three sequels, New Term at Malory Towers, Summer Term at Malory Towers and Winter Term at Malory Towers. These focus on the adventures of Felicity Rivers, June Johns and Susan Blake: Felicity is the new head of the third form at Malory Towers, and what a lot she has to deal with! There are new girls to get to know, mysteries to uncover, and even a concert to put on - not to mention plenty of midnight feasts. Whatever each new term brings, Felicity and her friends know one thing is for sure. There will always be mischief and adventure!
