SHOULDER STRENGTH -  When strengthening the shoulder incorporating lower body movements is also valuable 🤸 -  This is because we generate alot of our upper body strength from our lower body. SHOULDER MOBILITY -  A while back we looked at identifying restriction at your shoulder and ways of improving that mobility. This is a further progression on that. It can also be a stand alone strength exercise as well though 💪 -  It's very effective as it combines an eccentric component for strengthening. This is great for developing a healthy shoulder and progressive loading for tendinopathy. SHOULDER MOBILITY -  Today we are going to look at ways in improving the restriction you have identified using yesterday's assessment tip 👍 -  As the shoulder is an incredibly mobile joint reducing restriction if it's present is important for facilitating day to day activities, gym exercise or sporting activities 🤸 -  Two options in today's video. First is a traditional stretch so aim to hold it for 30+ seconds and repeat 3-4 times. This can be a bit sore so let pain guide you, and how irritable it is over the few hours after it ⏰ -  The second option is loading the shoulder. This will allow you to not only strengthen the muscles around the shoulder but also achieve the mobility you want. Try 8-10 reps 3-4 sets. SHOULDER RANGE OF MOVEMENT -  The shoulder is a remarkable joint with the movement it generates and the amount of activity it completes. In a throwing action it moves at a rate of 9000 degrees per second 🤯 -  So it's worth keeping your shoulder healthy. A restriction in this movent can result in other areas compensating for it or the shoulder itself no longer being able to tolerate the load through it 👎 -  The video shows a quick way in assessing the movement for yourself. If you are able to get a full arc total of 180 degrees all good. SHOULDER STRENGTH  Strength and stability can be advanced around the shoulder by altering a number of different factors. A great one is making the weight you are lifting more unstable and a kettlebell is a great way to achieve this!  The above exercise challenges the smaller muscles in you shoulder to stabilise the joint while the larger muscles produce more of the torque and movement. It makes them work more as a team as they are meant to 🤼  Adding a lower limb movement such as a lunge further challenges the system and increases activation at the shoulder muscles. The more the challenge the stronger it gets 💪  The stronger it is the easier normal activities become! Shoulder Strength  Rotator Cuff Focus  Another great exercise for 💪 strengthening the rotator cuff muscles and helping with stability around the shoulder!  Again really affective for getting those posterior cuff muscles working hard, and these are the guys that when strong enough facilitate your overhead lifting or 🏋️ overhead strengthening.  Its a 2 for 1 exercise getting both eccentric work which strengthens the muscle while lengthening and concentrically which is your traditional contraction movement. Doing both means you are onto a winner 🎉  You wont need a heavy weight for this exercise and try using the progressions to make the exercise harder! 10-12 reps 4 sets, use as a finisher or stand alone rehab exercise. SHOULDER PAIN  ROTATOR CUFF RECRUITMENT  Having a strong and healthy rotator cuff is important for being able to reach into the top shelf, lifting heavy overhead or any over head sports 🥍🎾🏀🥎 -  The above exercise is quick and easy to integrate as part of any shoulder rehab, strengthening or warm up programme ☑️ -  It has been shown to be effective in building the strength of the cuff muscles especially the ones that help turning your arm out to the side. SHOULDER PAIN  Is it your rotator cuff?  Your rotator cuff is a group of 4 muscles originating from around your shoulder blade and attaching into the top of your arm.  They help with movement at the shoulder but their most important role is in stability around the shoulder which facilitates larger muscles to act on the shoulder.  Reduced strength or function can cause over head movements to become difficult and while less likely to have a severe injury to the muscle without trauma at a younger age tears are common as we enter into our 5th decade 😮  They can react to overload in more active individuals or in sports with overhead movement. Therefore identification and then treatment is important to get back to full function and performance 🏋️ Try the test in the video to see if it changes your symptoms and we'll look and some exercises in the coming days.
