So yesterday I had a pretty rough day - a couple of triggers sent me spiralling into a bout of depression which I hadn't had in a very long time. I managed it the best I could, and eventually fell asleep with eyes swollen to the size of golf-balls because I'd been crying for over six hours (you should see them this morning, beasts, absolute beasts). 🌹 The reason I say this on a public forum is, as always, for awareness. I used to suffer from bouts of depression regularly but I haven't had one in over half a year - and because of this I'd forgotten how overwhelming and intense they can be. I've written advice pieces and offered supportive words to friends - and I've been doing it from a place of privilege, from a place where I felt strong and able enough to follow my own advice, forgetting that whilst you're  in the midst of that awful, choking darkness things are very very different. I wonder if I said anything insensitive, and I wonder how many people out there say things that are more hurtful than helpful without meaning to. 🌹 My point I guess is that even as someone who goes through these things and so can empathise more than most, I still made the mistake of assuming that what was helping me would help everyone else: my situation and experiences are mine and mine alone. Sharing is great, always, and I will keep writing about what has, and continues to, help me. But the importance of listening to others and asking them what they need and what they're going through is key. And letting them know they're not alone - for me, that's always and every time been what's saved me from shutting down completely. 🌹 #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #youarenotalone #breakthestigma #letstalkaboutmentalhealth

Eating disorders manifest themselves in many ways and people seem to think that unless you are a BMI of XX, then you aren’t sick and don’t struggle. This is not the case. At its simplest, an eating disorder is a disordered relationship with food and body image. There’s is no magic number on the scale or chart that can tell you what’s going on in your head and whether or not you are in a good state mentally. That’s just not the way mental illness works. And while mental health can manifest itself in a physical way, it doesn’t have to. There are so many of you out there fighting yourselves every day – battling your mind and putting all your strength into fighting for yourself and your best life. It is bloody hard and exhausting but you’re still fighting! Even though people don’t recognise how much you go through everyday just to function – I just want to acknowledge your strength and give you a big round of applause. You are doing great.

It 🙅🏼‍♀️❌ Here is a simple solution to get your very own beach body, which only requires 2 ✌ things: a body 👦🏽 and your bikini/swimwear 👙 No one gives a toot about what sort of body is occupying the swimwear, so long as your bits are covered! Everyone is too in their own head to even bother about thinking what others look like.  Bottom line, rock what you've got.  Be and act confident and no-one will question you. Wellbeing Tip 11: Using the rain 💧to train your brain 🧠 for mindfulness 💪🏼😊. . . A big goal of mindfulness is to let go of judgements you place on things or people and be fully present and aware of where you are RIGHT now and accept it as neither good or bad but just what is. . .  It’s been raining on and off in Melbourne lately so I thought why not use the weather and rain as an opportunity for an informal mindfulness practice?! Spot meditations are my favorite. They make practicing mindfulness easy and fun because you can do them on the go and with whatever pops up for you every minute and hour of each day! . 💧💧💧💧💧💧💧 〰️ The Exercise 〰️ 💧💧💧💧💧💧💧 . .  Begin to bring your awareness to your breath, inhale and hold the breath for a few seconds, then feel your stomach expanding like a balloon as you exhale. Always make sure your exhale is longer than the inhale to trigger the relaxation response. .  Now bring your awareness to your 5 senses. Start to notice 🔍things you can see around you. 🔍What time of day is it? 🔍Where is the rain falling? 🔍How does it look as it hits the ground or your skin? 🔍How does the rain sound? 🔍Can you hear anything else around you? 🔍What color is the sky? 🔍Can you see any rainbows? 🔍 🔍Notice any judgment you might be placing on your observations or experience and let it go. 🔍Are there any clouds? 🔍Are the clouds different colors and appear to have a different textures in certain places? 🔍What temperature is it outside? 🔍How does the air and rain feel as it brushes against your skin? 🔍What sensations physically in your body can you feel? 🔍Can you notice any thoughts you are having? . . If you do just watch them like rain clouds passing by and don’t get caught in them, let them be and come back to observing your surroundings with your senses and bringing your awareness to your breath.

I am struggling with activity. I am in a slump of self hatred and body criticism. I am feeling disgusted by myself. I want to exercise. Not because it will make me feel good. Not because I am always rejuvenated after being outdoors. Not because I want the company. I want to exercise to feel like I have some control and say over my appearance. I want to exercise to have people tell me "how much better"  I look. I want to exercise so I can consume negative calorie counts. I want to feel empty and lightheaded so the voices in my head will stop harassing me. So I will look as sick as I feel. So there will be a silver lining that my self-loathing mental illnesses are appeased by. It is at the point that exercise attempts elicit a pattern -  I am constantly judging myself, making myself feel inadequate, and then getting frustrated at myself or those around me. Frustrated that I forgot my inhaler, that I don't have the right shoes, frustrated that this felt "easier" at a lower weight, frustrated that people are more fit than me, frustrated that I am slow, that I am short of breath. Hearing "pathetic, pathetic, pathetic" with each muddy trudging footstep.  I am at a loss. Exercise helps me sleep better, being outside contributes hugely to feeling grounded, and I enjoy moving my body, using the strength and ability I am blessed/lucky to have. I would like to find a balance between my past harmful obsession with activity, and my desire to build strength and endurance.  Silence is helpful. If I pause to review the angry thoughts, they do pass, most of the time. But I am left with feelings of self loathing and inadequacy - regarding activity. Recovery has been a mixture of defying my disordered thoughts, enduring them, or redirecting them. I am at a loss of how to find peace with exercise. Maybe dancing, but, me and room full of mirrors is enough to make a gal wanna barf (*irony intended, sorry but it's funny)  #edfighter #osfedrecovery #edwarrior #recoverywarrior

I've been guilty of giving advice instead of just listening. It has been a great journey these past few years seeing how people are choosing to make a difference in the world. Going green in hip and cool. This is wonderful as long as it can be backed up by education. Like how yoga is great for the mind and body but being a hip new multi billion dollar industry it can also do harm. Yoga pants and yoga mats are not good for the environment. Yoga is still helping people be in touch with themselves creating a strong foundation to build their perspectives on.  Fads, fashions, pop culture and popularity have power, any celebrities who influence these aspects of media and the populous are coming forward. They are using their popularity to educate the masses, to shed light on important environmental and humanitarian issues.
