The other day I went to my local library and watched an author talk by Australian crime author Candice Fox @candicefoxauthor. Hearing Candice talk about her books in person was fantastic. Plus, she was hilarious. One old lady during the question time at the end asked if she had ever considered becoming a stand-up comedian 🤣. . . I can't wait to read Gone by Midnight which is the third book in this series. I was trying to wait for it to come out in b paperback so it matched the other two books I own (#bookwormproblems) but of course I had to get a copy and get it signed after the talk. . . I love the two main characters in this crime series and the way they interact with each other, despite being so different. I can never quite guess the ending and twists in Candice's books either. Plus her writing always sucks me in from page one and there's never a dull moment. . . If you like Aussie crime fiction, I highly recommend this series. It was also fascinating hearing about how Candice cowrites books with James Patterson. I always wondered how authors do that. Yet some more books to add to my tbr list. . . 📚 QOTD: Who is an author that you always recommend people read and why? . . . . . #aussiebookstagrammer#aussiereaders#crimefiction#readmorebooks#bookcommunity#reading#instabooks#unitedbookstagram#bookaholic#candicefox#alwaysreading#crimebooks#bookphotography#booksbooksbooks#readaholic#booksaremylife#readallday#mustread
Our remarks: While excess consumption may lead to things like bigger houses and faster cars, it never really brings us happiness. Instead, it results in a desire for more, and distracts you from experiencing the life you really want. The best part of minimalism isn’t a clean house, but a full life. The beauty of it isn’t in what it takes away, but what it gives.
Our remarks: Digital minimalism applies the ‘less is more’ approach to our personal technology. Being mindful and intentional with the time you spend on your devices is the key to living a focused life in an increasingly noisy world. Rethink your relationship with social media to rediscover the simple pleasures of the offline world. Regular periods of solitude will help you feel less overwhelmed and more in control of your life.
Our remarks: You approach your life and work the same way you approach the software you use. Do you rely on built-in and default software like Internet Explorer or Safari, or do you take initiative and strive for something potentially better, like using Chrome or Firefox. Anyone can think of good ideas, but few of us have what it takes to act upon them. Rather than trying to suppress strong emotions, it's easier to convert them into different ones, like turning fear into excitement. To be original, you need to be curious. When you become curious about the dissatisfying defaults of our world, you realize that they all have social origins. Everything around us was created by people, more or less original than you. Once you understand that, you can begin to create change.
Our remarks: Don’t be afraid to have and act upon your crazy ideas. Once you do, go all in. Risks don’t feel as risky if you believe in what you’re doing. Don’t settle for a job, but seek for a calling. Don’t just strive for success, but find a reason to succeed. Luck may determine an outcome, but the harder you work, the luckier you’ll be. Don’t be afraid to ask for help along the way, it’ll make your path to lifelong wisdom a little easier. Setbacks are going to happen frequently throughout your entrepreneurial career. Learn to embrace them, and continually remind yourself why you started.
Our remarks: You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you. Being honestly and sincerely appreciative to the people around you makes you more memorable. When you’re speaking with someone, give them all your attention and focus. The sweetest word in the English language is their name, remember to use it.
Our remarks: Entrepreneurs should be intent on building monopolies. Diversification in skills and becoming laser-focused is the best way to shape your future. Creating a zero-to-one type offering for your product or service that’s niche enough to avoid competition will help your business go from zero to one. Go 10x or go home.
