This isn’t one that I would have picked up if I wasn’t writing my paper but the way that Barrett narrates the story is incredible. Not sure where this book/recent case developments earlier this year leave us. All I can think is: The power of corporate greed and irresponsibility is disgusting. Makes you think about the ways that you are complicit in the enterprise to strip people of their basic rights and then deny them any remedies.

The title itself suggests the genre. It's a story about a group of friends who meet more than a decade after they complete their studies. At Teesha's place, they gather to attend a dinner party organized by her in memory of their batch mate Anandita. Here they all share their journey during their school days from their perspectives. Everyone is surprised to know that even though all of them were in the same place doing the same thing in their life, how different each one's journey was. The beginning of the book was too stretched to survive, however as the story progresses, the author is able to create a good interest in each character's life. I liked the fact that there's one more person who's watching all of them as they make their journey through the school days. The book talks about various changes that everyone goes through, their relationships with people around them, their thoughts, opinions about everything in their life. The book at many points is relatable to everyone who has passed through the weird phase of teenage life and how their teenage life has affected their perspective on life. I recommend this book to everyone who's a teenage and also those who have passed that age. I'm sure you'll will relate to it. . I'm thankful to @_namanpandey for providing this review copy in exchange for an honest review. ( I know I'm too late but I was caught up in exams😫) . . . . . . . . . . #story#dystopia#adolscent#teenage#teenager#life#lifeissues#teenagelife
Starting to get Christmassy! And, just a few more days til we hit the shortest day of the year and day light becomes a thing in our lives again. Like many of you, my December so far has been super busy; I’ve had plans every single day so far this month. Tomorrow; I’m looking forward to just coming home after work! I am still making pretty good progress with David Copperfield though. I’m about 200 pages in and have stated listening to it on audiobook as well as reading the physical book to help keep the momentum going. So far, I’m really enjoying it. Which is a relief when a book is around a thousand pages long.... What are you reading at the moment?
"You aren’t supposed to answer violence with more violence but sometimes I think violence is the only answer." . “Paul taught me a person committed to silence can suggest importance, strength. The Ascendance Trilogy by Jennifer A. Nielsen📖 It’s about a country Carthya that is on the verge of war and three orphan boys compete against each other to be the chosen False Prince to save their country. The first book is about their journey to learn everything they can and prove themselves as the one False Prince to be crowned as a puppet king while the other two who didn’t make it would likely be executed for their knowledge about the plan. So the whole book is literally what happen in just about 2 weeks. It’s quite predictable that the regent that picked them and trained them had all the worst intention I could think of but I’m still curious about what will happen to the two boys who wouldn’t make it at the end and all the possible drama 👌. It probably sounds childish to read about young boys being exploited to be puppet but this is a really fast book. I finished it in two days because it was hard to put it down😂 (it’s fast considering I’m a slow reader and I don’t read the whole day because I’m a busy woman😜well, last one is partly a joke) I expected and somehow guessed the twist but I really enjoyed it. 👌 The book would be much more exciting to be told in third person view of all three boys perspective tho. We could probably feel the competition and it would make them look like they have equal chance. I think it still would work on the sequels too. But yeah, if I’m complaining too much then perhaps I should write my own book 😂 I doubt I’d do half as good work 😂 I probably end up writing crappy fanfic anyway. #thefseprince#theascendancetrilogy#jenniferanielsen#bookstagramfeatures#bookish#bookishfeatures#booklover#bookworm#booknerd#booknerdig#bibliophile#instabook#instagood#igreads#bookporn#igread#shelvies#bookshelve#book#books#theshadowthrone#therunawayking

#2 Festive Colours - White Books. 🎄 I’ve read half of the books in this picture and I plan on reading the remaining two this year. I can do it 🌚 🎄 I read Without Merit last year and I found Merit so relatable it completely shattered me (imagine me standing in front of my toilets door, i couldn’t even stop reading it enough to focus on peeing, tears dripping from my eyes around 2-3 am) 🎄 Smile, my Beloved Country was a very predictable but okay read. 🎄 Lovely Seeds is a poetry book that I won from twitter this year and the few poems I’ve read are 🥰 🎄 Eleanor Oliphant is probably mad at me because I got her in May and I still haven’t read her story. 🎄 Come on and participate ☹️ only @BookedUnicorn007 is being a fun loving person. A lucky participant is going to get a mystery gift 💝 🎄 @BookishSpecies Festive Bookstagram Challenge
I asked the bookshop keeper for a book that was like a ‘Country Style’ magazine for a suburban Mum who dreams of living in the country side. She suggested Kate Moreton, and with faith I brought another book to add to the recent purchases not my night stand. Holiday reading list - ‘Little’ Edward Carey, ‘An Unreliable Man’ Jostein Gaarder, ‘The Children’s Bach’ Helen Garner, ‘The Clockmaker’s daughter’ Kate Moreton. What are you reading? Any other suggestions? xx
Ask to read, The Most of Nora Ephron! A whopping big celebration of the work of the late, great Nora Ephron, America’s funniest—and most acute—writer, famous for her brilliant takes on life as we’ve been living it these last forty years. Everything you could possibly want from Nora Ephron is here—from her writings on journalism, feminism, and being a woman (the notorious piece on being flat-chested, the clarion call of her commencement address at Wellesley) to her best-selling novel, Heartburn, written in the wake of her devastating divorce from Carl Bernstein; from her hilarious and touching screenplay for the movie When Harry Met Sally . . . (“I’ll have what she’s having”) to her recent play Lucky Guy (published here for the first time); from her ongoing love affair with food, recipes and all, to her extended takes on such controversial women as Lillian Hellman and Helen Gurley Brown; from her pithy blogs on politics to her moving meditations on aging (“I Feel Bad About My Neck”) and dying. Her superb writing, her unforgettable movies, her honesty and fearlessness, her nonpareil humor have made Nora Ephron an icon for America’s women—and not a few of its men. #nonfiction#humor#biography#memoir#feminism #books #booklovers #amreading #bibliophile #bookaddict#bookphotography #ireadeverywhere #readingandsharing #bookworld #readingtime #sharing #bookstagram #bookstagramfeature #booknerd #mumbai #bestoftheday #picoftheday #whattoread #greatreads #bookshelf #booksinmumbai #noraephron
Sea Prayer is a power packed and compact storytelling by Khaled Hosseini. I am head over heels in love with his prose style writing. ♥♥♥♥♥ It is becoming such a rare talent and quality to express yourself in few words. And Khaled Hosseini does it with perfection. The beauty of Sea Prayer is in saying more with less words. It is the most thought provoking book on my bookshelf and I pray for the well being of each and every refugee. 🛐🙏
‘In the darkest woods, three girls go looking for the Tall Man.’ • I love stories with urban myths, they add another layer of creepiness and this one certainly did that! • A decent read, someone has been murdered, in a twist we don’t know who the victim is but we do know the killer... as their story is told via a tv crew filming a true crime documentary. • Standout for me was how spooky I found this book in parts. One chilling read. • Have you read it? What did you think? • Thank you to Jennifer at Headline for sending me a copy of this book. • #thetallman#phoebelocke
Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, Angie Thomas’s searing debut about an ordinary girl in extraordinary circumstances addresses issues of racism and police violence with intelligence, heart, and unflinching honesty. Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr. But what Starr does—or does not—say could upend her community. It could also endanger her life. . After Khalil got shot by a white police officer, Starr think every white people is a bad person. I was like what?? Her friend and boyfriend are white but they are nice duh. Goshhhh but I'm glad that I read this book coz it educate me more bout racism. . 🌟🌟🌟🌟 . #readingchallenge#bibliophile#bibliophilemy#booknerd#ebook#bookreview#bookcommunity#bookworm#booklovers#bookloversmy#bookaddict#bookaholic#booknerd#igreads#booksuggestions#ya#youngadult#fiction#bookstagram#ixxreadinglist#thehateyougive#angiethomas
