That time we decided one morning to ride out to Shenandoah for the weekend. Spring, 2017 or thereabouts. Footnote: this Elspeth Beard novel has got me feeling some kinda way about touring. #motocamping#bmwairhead#virginia#dcmotoscene

Made some more aluminium bronze parts this evening tried out using a lath for the first time thanks to my good buddy sky @skiroski for lending me the use of his. Also made some hax bar for finishing off the top of the yokes. Pretty satisfying using hand files, dimond flat stone, vernier caliper and the eye-o-meeter to cut out the hex things. Lovely stuff keep going! . #aluminiumbronze#machining#makingthings#bikerevival#bmwairhead#airhead
Finally got the Saharan Sled in front of the camera today. It took three months to build pre-baby and three months to ride it post-baby. I’m looking forward to building with my son Apollo one day. A special shoutout to Jen for the paint, AP for the seat, and Revival for the inspiration. #dadlife#restomod#revivalcycles#bmwairhead#revzilla @jen_hallett_art @ap__upholstery @little_mr_grimace_and_grunt @revivalcycles @revzilla #zeitgeistmoto
Swipe —> —> How It’s Made (Part 2) Once the top and side were welded together o turned a flange around the bottom edge of this tank, this improves the strength/rigidity of the tank. I’ve included two video clips of this process. In the first video I am tapping with the hammer to make sure I have the dolly on the underside right where I want it. Then while applying upward pressure with the dolly I hammer down on the edge to tip the flange. On the second video I am again using upwards pressure with a dolly while using a slapper to smooth the area where the flange was tipped, to make a crisp corner. This is the same technique as when using a slapper & dolly to smooth a panel. Next the tunnel was welded in, front mounts and bungs. Then finally a polish. Hope this sheds a little light on how I do it. Feel free to ask questions, or point out any techniques you’d like to see explained further. Thanks 👍
Swipe —> —> How it’s made (Part 1) I wanted this tank to have a complex shape, and it had to fit the frame correctly. The best way to go about this was to make a foam “buck”, which is a scale model of the part that you intend to make. Once the buck was carved from foam, I made my patterns and shaped the side panels. I decided to make each of the side panels from one piece, I’ll discuss the techniques I used to shape the side another time. Next the center panel was shaped, welded into place, and the welds planished smooth. Any questions? Check back soon for the rest of the process.
How cool is this? A company named Katdash makes a LED replacement circuit board for our aging Airhead’s instrument clusters! The original flexible circuit boards (in the blue plastic) are sadly all aging out... corroding from the inside👎. (with no more replacement boards available from BMW😢.) Thank you Katdash for filling this need! Interested? Give us a call and we can help you out! Thanks to our customer Ben for being the test mule on this install on his R60/6. A little polish on the tank. The original plan was to paint the aluminum tank/fairing/tail/fenders a british racing green. Now we’re considering a raw polished look. What do you think? Also I’m putting together a couple posts that will show the process of transforming flat aluminum sheet into the finished tank you see here.
