Credit: @bemytravelmuse Standing at Victoria Falls, One of the seven natural wonders of the world, all smiles on the last day of this #bmtmadventures tour! About a year ago I started putting these group excursions together and so far they’ve taken us to three different continents including hiking in Peru, backpacking in the Alaskan wilderness, and traveling overland through Namibia, Botswana, and ending here in Zambia. Though they’ve all been such different adventures, one common thread has been how blown away I am by the women who show up to take part. You’re all so smart, dynamic, friendly, non-cliquey, and such a joy to be around, I often pinch myself because I just can’t believe that part of my job gets to be hanging out with such cool people, laughing till my cheeks hurt. I can’t wait until our next adventure in Patagonia this March! The spots for that trip have all sold out but as soon as it turns 2019 three new amazing tours will be available: Hiking and chasing waterfalls in Iceland, island hopping in the Galapagos, and swimming with humpback whales in Tonga. Do you have a favorite bridge? One of our favorites in the world is London’s Tower Bridge. And we’ve been so lucky with the weather on this little getaway to London with @londonperfectrentals. We got a beautiful but chilly sunset at Tower Bridge last night. One of our favorite times of the day to photograph outdoors is the hour after sunset, called blue hour. Check the link in our bio for @bemytravelmuse ‘s Photo Muse Masterclass and you too can learn to capture gorgeous photos from your trips. *************************************************** Avez-vous un pont préféré? "Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others." -Jonathan Swift 💛 As a creator, I LOVE envisioning all the things I want to make. Things that will help tons of people and take my business to the next level. I start ALLLLL the projects and rarely complete them (unless they are for someone else), before moving on to another project. And repeat. 🤦🏼♀️ There is only one solution I have found... consistency. Consistency is key, and the key to consistency? Well, it is just showing up. 👍 Show up in your business, show up in your promises + commitments to yourself, show up and just START. 💛 If you show up today, you'll have something to show for it tomorrow and be one step closer to whatever your goal is. And repeat. ✨ I’d love to hear...how will you show up today, m’dear? 📸: Talkeetna Mountains, Alaska by @bemytravelmuse #bemyphotomuse#ruleofthirds
Touchdown in Alicante! My Eastern Europe adventures go on hold whilst I visit the Rents in Spain, to then travel further afield in October. It was getting a little too cold over there for my liking - sorry guys 😂!
I'm late on the #bemyphotomuse challenge, but here's my #posechallengeday3 (I think...): props. (also movement) I was still depressed when I picked up my ginger tea latte at the Merry Berry, but when I saw two guys taking dull pictures of each other under the umbrellas, this idea sparked. I wanted to run up to them and mime this pose, as if their umbrella had blown away. I didn't, but a couple of days later, my husband and I returned with an umbrella to take this photo. Note to self: golden hour is for landscapes. More normal daylight is better for colours. (Also less people at the back of your photos, at least on this boardwalk). #travelholic#travelholic#whimsical#traveleurope#odessa#umbrella
#posechallengeday4 'Using a prop' A bit late but I figured that a special one like this makes up for that. . Here I am, standing on top of the mountain where they filmed the scenes for Edoras in Lord Of The Rings, holding the flag of Rohan. I booked a guided Edoras Tour and it was so amazing. There were just 2 other people on the tour and the weather was just perfect. Our guide told us everything about the location, showed us pictures of how it looked when they were filming the movies and compared it to how it looks now. She also brought some awesome props like this flag that we could use for pictures. It feels unbelievable that this is a real photo of me being there. Of course I always hoped that I would visit New Zealand one day but I never would have imagined that it would be this soon. Now on to the next adventure! #bemyphotomuse @bemytravelmuse #newzealand#lotr#mountsunday
Soooo.. Todays #posechallengeday4 Was hard considering I was at work ....lol... However these beautiful wild flowers were calling my name..#bemyphotomuse Using a prop.... (prop your camera on something / using a prop in picture.. All I had was my sunglasses and I proped my camera (phone) in the flowers. #usewhatyagot
This is it, it’s finally here! Over the past few months I’ve been quietly shooting tons of video tutorials, making workbooks, and burning the midnight oil putting everything I know about photography and growing as an artist into a business woman into a course. The course is out today – the Photo Muse Masterclass. I truly left nothing out because I would love to see a group of you succeed using the knowledge that I’ve learned over the last seven years to build this Instagram, my blog, and to give myself a life of freedom – one that now pays six figures a year. Because I believe in this so much, I am offering a 30 minute strategy call and a mega pack of editing presets to everyone who signs up within the next two days. This offer doesn’t come around twice! I hope to see you in class. It’s going to be a blast! Link in bio ✨
I took my first trip alone last weekend and went to Dublin 🍀🇨🇮 💫I found an amazing cafe that does the nicest food and matcha lattes called Tang. 💫I visited the Kilmainham jail and got to see the Nelson Mandela exhibition - both of which were so informative. 💫I went to a pub and sat and had a pint by myself. Those were the highlights amongst some other bizarre events and I'm so glad I did it. Fear has stopped me from doing so many things in life and now I'm telling it to do one. On that note for round two I'm going to Berlin 😄
Time for the final day of the #bemyphotomuse#posechallengeday5 - it’s being fierce. Taking some inspiration from Beyoncé, this is one of the hardest poses for me but it makes me feel like a queen. Thanks to all of the goddesses who joined in on this Challenge! It’s been so much fun watching the uplifting things you’ve been posting, seeing what you create, and learning from all of you. Today’s final email had a pretty special announcement in it. Did you see it?
Lupine fields > sunflower fields Just kidding! All flower fields are 💯 in my book! I do love how subtle wildflowers are in the Eastern Sierra, though. The mountains bring the drama, but the flowers make you pause to take a closer look. From where you’re sitting on the other side of the screen, this lupine field may seem like it carries far less “wow” factor compared to the bright and bold sunflower fields splashed across your feed. But these little guys brave the elements to flourish despite harsh alpine conditions. Small but mighty, they bring all of the “wow” in the world when you stop to think what it took for them to be here. Photo: @craigwestphoto
#bemyphotomuse#posechallengeday4 didn’t go as planned. I wanted to play around with a hair flip by some of the murals in downtown Lafayette. Eventually, I got frustrated with the self-timer on my phone and self-conscious of people walking by so I settled on this one. I still like the idea, just have to get the timing down.
Use a prop! Day 4 of the #bemyphotomuse pose challenge is all about making what you have around you work for you! I’ll get a coffee mug, use my sun glasses, incorporate what I’m wearing or run my hands through my hair (those are all props too!) to keep myself from posing with my hands awkwardly at my side. It just makes the whole affair easier! I can’t wait to see what you guys share for #posechallengeday4 hit the link in the bio if you still want to join. It’s not too late!
Have you ever seen a more stately cathedral? . Some days I’m not even sure how I survived living in a city. The forest is my sanctuary. How did I ground myself when time spent among the trees was reserved for weekends? How did I recharge? . Living in a national forest makes getting outside easier, of course. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have to be intentional about making time for what grounds me. If I don’t check in with myself on the work/life/admin balance quandary regularly, I find myself saying things like, “I can go outside to play when...” (admin = house/finance things... there may or may not be a massive pile of clean laundry on the far side of my bed 😳 because folding clothes < climbing outing... this weekend at least). . Admin and work things feel like forward motion. Checking things off my list in those categories feels fantastic, so it’s tempting for someone like me to go hard on those aspects (what even is relaxation?) and let life things take a back seat. But I’ve been working on putting more value on “Meghan things”—saying yes to a meet up with my women’s writing group or lingering at the lake even when I know it means I will be “behind” on work/admin activities. . Surprise! It feels amazing 😌 . Do you struggle with balancing what grounds you with the things that feel like forward motion? I want to hear how you decide when it’s time to work and when it’s time to be still (or play). . Photo: @craigwestphoto
#posechallengeday3 'Creative Smiling!' More often than not I find it quite difficult to really smile in a picture I'm taking myself. But with a landscape like this? Not difficult at all. 💚 #bemyphotomuse @bemytravelmuse
So #posechallangeday2 of the #bemyphotomuse challenge was hard for me; smile. I knew eventually @bemytravelmuse would eventually make me face the camera hahaha.... But I didn't think it would be this hard. It's one thing when you're just taking a smiling selfie with a friend; posing like this is much different. . I hate to say I've "struggled" with my weight most of my life, because for most of it I've just lived with being the chubby girl and usually rocked it. But when forced to be in front of a camera, or at a beach for months at a time, it's harder to rock. . So when I started taking these smiling selfies in my usually bikini-a-day getup here on the beach, I obviously hated them all. Double chin in that one, gut hanging out in this one, my boobs hit my waist in that one 😂.... . Then I took this one. And the first thing I saw was my smile. Genuinely happy-as-fuck. And that's what the challenge was all about, right? But then, of course, all I saw was my gut hanging out, my arm looking fat, etc, etc. I started thinking how I could crop this picture to "save" it, as if my body needed rescuing. . And yeah, sometimes it does. Sometimes it's hard being newly alone without your constant cheerleader by your side that you had relied on for 15 years. (Although I'm lucky and he still cheers me on, it's just not his job anymore). Sometimes I get uber frustrated that I can't just buy new things in a market somewhere while traveling like all the gorg, thin travel bloggers I see. But seriously fuck off if you think I'm gonna let this body stop me from enjoying this amazing place (and it's food 😬), and documenting it (including my body). And obviously that fuck off is not directed at you, my lovely followers, but at myself, and maybe the patriarchy? 🤷🏻♀️😂 . So here's me, smiling my ass off, with my gut out, trying to remember that my gut is just a small part of the person that gets to experience these amazing places and share it with all of you.
Today’s #bemyphotomuse#posechallengeday3 was the one I was dreading. I am extremely self-conscious about my photo smile as it is often awkward causing me to look like scary Hannibal Lector. That is why so many shots of me are of the back of my head. Thankfully for this photo, being at Castel Sao Jorge in Lisbon with my love made it easier to smile naturally.
Smile bright! Today the #bemyphotomuse#posechallengeday3 is all about flashing that gorgeous smile. It’s what makes you unique, spreads light and joy, and there are many ways to do it. I share some in today’s email and in my insta stories. If you want to join in on the fun hit the link in my bio to learn more about the free 5 day pose challenge 💋 💜
Taking an end of summer dip 🐾 My sweet boy Jenner turns one this week. Many of you know Jenner (JB in my stories) is training to be a guide dog with Guide Dogs for the Blind. As much as he’s “my baby” he actually belongs to the organization, so his birthday is bitter sweet. At one year, puppies in training are evaluated for placement in formal training (aka guide dog college), which means our time together is coming to an end 😢 I’m going to be a mess when he goes to college, but days like this one plus knowing he will change the life of a person with visual impairments make the thought of him leaving easier. TLC always said "don't go chasing waterfalls"... clearly I don't listen. In hindsight, they must've been looking at The Devils Kettle, where I climbed to the middle (not an easy feat and very slippery) to the mysterious dark hole. The 2nd fall flows through this large rock hole with no end in sight. I made it back alive, but looking back now, it was pretty dangerous and definitely scary. 😳 Minnesota is a state with a million lakes, ok- 10,000 and counting. Grand Marais is by far my favorite place in MN. I practically went to Canada too. #grandmarais#mn#grandportage#waterfalls#tlc#sonya6300#playtoys#devilskettle#highfalls#hungryhippie#northshore#lakesuperior
I have this thing I have to do in every location, and that’s waking up to watch the sunrise. I often feel like I have never experienced the place enough until I have greeted the sun first thing in the morning. Varna had some perfect piers between the beaches for me to do just this...
#posechallengeday2 'Movement' I don't even know what kind of move I was doing but it turned out alright, didn't it? 😂 At least I'm very much enjoying these #bemyphotomuse challenges by @bemytravelmuse 💃
Made a quick pit stop on my drive home from Lexington to go on a short hike. Got lost trying to find the trailhead. Found some graffitied ruins. Learned how to take a selfie using my phones timer. Didn't even get home that late. I'd call that a success!
You don’t have to travel far to catch those beautiful sights; you just have to pick your time and 3am is my favourite for climbing Munro’s... You have the valleys to yourself and the sunrise to make friends with ☺️. #gh4
I'd rather be drinking tea in the mountains than drinking tea at my desk. 😕 . Definitely check out the plain of six glaciers teahouse around lake louise instead of the lake agnes one. It's so much cuter. And go early!
