Perfectionism. Who else struggles with this?! . This morning I did a cardio circuit. Did I have to take breaks during some exercises? Yes. Did I feel like I was dying at times? Yes. Did I still finish the workout and give it my all? YES! . It’s not about perfection. And believe me, it’s taken some work for me to actually think this way, because I am the ULTIMATE perfectionist. I used to get so down on myself when I had to take a break or modify. But why?! There is NO shame in modifying, regardless of who you are or what fitness level you feel like you’re at. . It’s all about getting out there and giving it all you have that day. Some days you will feel stronger than others, and that is okay! It’s hard to keep giving when there’s very little coming back. We know at the deepest level that we need to keep opening up – that we need to keep allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, to be love, and loving. And yet to keep opening up and being rejected over and over seems like the last thing we can take. So, what do we do? In these moments love and compassion for ourselves is critical. We are human and to be human is to experience emotions and to feel hurt sometimes. It’s natural to want to avoid that pain or at least feel prepared to face it again. I think it’s OK to take our time and realise that sometimes we need a break from throwing ourselves into the vulnerability fire pit again. We’re not saying we won’t do it again. We won’t let our fear and rule. But it’s OK to take a break. To nurture ourselves and build ourselves up again to take that next step onto the path of vulnerability – in case we are derailed again. If our burns are still red raw we shouldn’t feel ashamed of letting them heal a little first before moving towards opening our heart that little bit more.

I could not be more proud of him (last May 21.7st) Presently at 15.11st - is it any easier for him - hell no!! But he is in contact with me, he has his family around him and he is not looking for a quick fix, he is changing in his mindset (positivity, being present, emotional regulation) life presents day to day challenges and it’s our responsibility to react, adapt and use our nearest and dearest to help us! Have we got all the aspect of this down to a high level of perfection, No! Why? Because as I said above, we are tested - tired, stressed, emotional, finances can restrict our choices. It’s not always fucking easy! Today I learnt that I have my fixes that I’m scared to not go, climbing, yoga, eat healthy food, cold shower, meditation and if I don’t get them I feel angry or in a state of fear. I’v practiced these things to make myself happy and to sacrifice that seems near impossible. Sounds selfish right? It feels selfish but I think sometimes you have to be and focus on you. I’m a very giving person and I always have been but I’m also a very reactive person and my expectations of others is often to high not because they are bad in anyway but because I expect to much. So I’m learning to find balance and not to worry that I’m not going to lose that handstand strength or the climbing grip or eating an unhealthy meal isn’t going to kill me but for me this journey continues self reflection, learning to love myself enough to forgive myself for not being perfect. So to everyone punishing themselves and blaming there surroundings take a deep breath find some stillness and reflect. You will never speak to anyone more than you will speak to yourself in your head. Be kind to yourself and practice positive self-talk. Instead of “I’m not good enough.”, think “I am more than enough. I am amazing.” It’s shocking how much negative self talk affects our daily lives. Positive self talk can make the difference between giving up on trying to live a healthy lifestyle because of that one doughnut you ate. A doughnut cannot break us! Also, you wouldn’t believe what our kids soak up from our self-talk habits. If my daughter and I both stood in front of a mirror and I spent my time frowning at what I see in my reflection, before anyone knows it, she will be doing the same thing at her own image. In order to make sure our kids learn to love themselves, we must first be the ones to change our habits. Our kids will always look to us first. Quite the humbling responsibility, right? So take a minute everyday to look in he mirror and tell yourself, “I am incredible!” Before you know it, you’ll believe it and so will those little ones looking up at you.
