Over 2000 years ago, Hippocrates declared that “all disease begins in the gut.” It’s only recently that modern medicine has finally caught up agreeing the import role the gut plays in our overall health.  The gut plays a huge role in; nutrient absorption, digestion, immune system support, skin conditions and even obesity and diabetes. A healthy gut helps prevent food sensitivities, “leaky gut” syndrome, allergies and potentially protects against autoimmune diseases.  Here are  4 ways to help improve your gut:  1.  Avoid Gut Irritants Antibiotics top the list for damaging gut health, but others include NSAIDs, birth control pills, alcohol, coffee, gluten, processed foods and stress. All of these can wreak havoc on our gut, undoing all the good work that a healthy diet provides.  2.  Eat Prebiotic Foods Plant fibers found in onions, leeks, celery, beans and asparagus, feed the friendly bacteria and nourish the gut. Green banana powder is also beneficial and easily available.  3.  Consume Fermented Foods and Beverages Fermented drinks such as beet kvass and kombucha or foods including unpasteurized sauerkraut or kimchee contain billions of bacteria that nourish the gut and diversify your bacterial flora. 4.  Do a Cleanse A cleanse is a great way to support the gut. A good cleanse should contain plenty of fiber to help “scrub” the the colon as well as fresh herbs to help kill off the bad bacteria and support healthy liver function. Increasing your water intake helps to speed up your body’s ability to eliminate toxins. For me, The Boss Body Program has been a great cleanse to do that’s safe for breastfeeding. It’s short and focused enough to be achievable and covers the mindset behind unhealthy habits. I love it’s holistic approach.  There is a lot of differing information out there in regards to health, but I’d love to know what you do each day to look after your gut!

If I have a lot on my mind, feeling distracted, a bit emotional for some reason etc yoga really gets me grounded again, out of my head, and back to myself⠀ 💛⠀ So, take that time to reconnect 🙂 whether it’s yoga, going for a swim, taking a 5 min walk outside, or simply focusing on your breath⠀ ✨⠀ And schedule it like you would schedule an important meeting, meaning actually setting aside the time but also showing up for it 😉 You are the most important thing in your life, so take care of yourself 😘 ~⠀ ~⠀ #begoodtoyourbody#healthylifestylechange#healthmotivation#wellness ⠀
